Correction: The ducts at the bottom are functional brake vent ducts! Many people cover them so the brakes stay at the correct operating temperature during normal driving. This Boss may have those covers.
Joe, I love the red wheels etc, I am biased, cause I am fortunate enough the have a Black LS, as well as a 16 GT350. You forgot to mention the side "quad" exhaust on the the Boss, also, the headlight covers on the 12 are not removable, they are on the 13's. Great review!!
I own a 2013 LS and a 2017 GT350. They are very different cars. You can tell the Ford engineers really worked on the shortcomings of the S197 with the S550, namely the suspension and interior. Both are a blast to drive; the Boss is more raw, which can be fun.
As the owner of a 12 boss 302, I'm gonna be a little bias but I'm still taking the boss. I cross shopped both cars and decide the boss was the way to go. Looks wise, I think the s550 just looks a little to importish to me. And the s197, especially the 11-14's just look so good. The gt350 has the better interior and better trans and brakes. The brakes on the shelby just blow away the boss. As far as performance, the boss is down almost 80 hp and it gives up nothing to the gt350 in the quater mile. The shelby is better on a road course in stock form, but for a little money say 4k you can make the boss handle just as good as stock gt350. The road runner engine in the boss is far superior to the voodoo, and it's not even close. One of the reasons I stayed away from the shelby was the voodoo motor issues. And lastly, pull into any car show or weekend track work and all you see is shelbys, there really a dime a dozen. I almost just walk by them anymore. I barely see a boss at a show or a road course event. And when I do, they attract attention big time. And who doesn't like a solid axle car! Way more fun that's keeps you on your toes!
@A C I would agree 💯. Love the way it sounds and revs. But the oil Consumption issues and just major failures of it is a big issue. Especially the first gen vodoo. Have 2 friends that nothing but issues with them. They seemed to (fix) some things on the 2nd gen vodoo. But it still isnt enough to sway me. The road runner is just built so stout, and already revs to 7500. A cam swap and tune and 8000rpm is not a issue.
I’m the original owner of a 2012 race red boss 302. Over the past few weeks I’ve been trying to decide on wether or not to trade her in for a 350. After reading your comment i might just have to hold on to her haha
I would keep it I also have a 2012 race red boss black stripes .low mile Garage queen. Red key . Stock. I don't care what they come out with I'm hanging on to this beast forever. It' just doesnt look like any other mustang cuz all new ones since 2013 have the same shelby looking front grill. 12.boss has the agressive classic grill with big chin spoiler. Thing just stands out. Love rumbling around the hood I keep baffles in and there is no rasp. Just a quiet mean sound. Until u get on it then it roars. Downshifting into a stop sign is the best. It shakes at stoplights too cuz of red key. Lopey idle. Feels like a 60s raw muscle car.
Great video, Joe. Love the Boss and the LS. Some corrections please: (1) the ducts in the front are actually functional brake cooling ducts; (2) the brakes in the front are 14" rotors with 4-piston Brembos...same was also available on the GT model; (3) the wheels are F 19x9, R 19x10.
That is one of the nicest cars they've ever built ford right there that was an amazing platform with that setup and intake stock it's perfect very unique
I covered one of these on my channel last spring. It was in a private collection and his was the black and red, which I personally prefer. I love these cars, they really pop and stand out from the crowd. Red wheels all the way.
The facelifted S197 Mustang is hands down my favorite Mustang in terms of both styling and overall performance. Also, aren't those circles meant for auxiliary lighting?
Just missed out on a ‘13 Boss 302 in Race Red and a black ‘13 Laguna Seca, however only a week later found a ‘13 GT500 and glad I missed out on the Boss…110 more HP, leather and heated seats, supercharged, and the iconic Shelby legacy to boot…nice job as always, Joe…one of these times, I’m going to “pop my cherry” and attend a Mecum or B-J car show/auction!
Still my halo car Joe, and I know you really appreciate the comparison to the Shelby GT350. Gotta say that was a helluva car for 2012 still would hang with a lot of sports cars today at the track! One day I'm gonna get a Kona blue Boss!😎❤️
You won't be disappointed Tom. I have a 13 PW Boss, and love the exhaust tone especially with "Red" key. Addictive sound I never get bored of. Happy shopping, I wish you best luck finding one you like :-) Cheers, from Canada.
Hi, the 1st gen 302 is one of the first cars I recognized as a child (And on of my favorites-have a 'hot wheels' Parnelli Jones edition in my stash)and really enjoying Trans Am series as a whole. Now in my mid '50's I look back at the cars and Legends like Dan Gurney with his contribution to the automotive world as you can still get his parts for cars, and this segment reminds me as a die cast dealer I do have the two colors of the 2012 'Hot Wheels' versions up for grabs. Thanks-Smith' Hot Wheels guy' Die cast Bham Al. P.S.-Shelby version not Exactly same, and it is his Birthday this year*.
Mustang is a true classic muscle. Like the silver and red combination but red wheels not so much.. Boss 302 great choice As always thank you for the excellent content..
I've got nothing but respect for the Boss 302, however the independent rear suspension on the S550 chassis is a game-changer by making it a true corner carver. If given the choice, I'd get the GT350.
Such a cool video! I LOVE my SS/1LE but I’ll always hate that I sold my 2013 Boss!! Oh and the icing I really miss is that RED key for that loppy idle 🎉
Silver has never been my car color. I believe this edition would have looked great in black with gold roof, stripes, and wheels. Burt Reynolds's Trans Am rocked black and gold!
I think it's a nice car, but I'm not feeling the silver and red combo. The main zonk for me is the red front trim, roof, wing, and wheels. It makes it look like it's trying too hard.
Very cool car that I feel just faded in the muscle car flurry that spun up, and very capable, but it ain't going to best a 350R. Wish you could have driven it Team!
Certainly love that Styling ... For Me ... Way better than the 2024 coming out ... even if that was just a 6 cylinder 2012 Stang. "No Touch Screen ... None of that Junk" 🤣
Team Steve. I have a '12 CO Boss 302. I prefer the 12 over the 13 and more standard colors. I just can't get into the LS color schemes at all. They remind me of Air Jordan sneakers of the 80's. Can't stand them. Best combo LS is the '13 model black w/ grey stripes.
I'd park it first, then put on a mix CD. Which would include "Real Wild Child" by Iggy Pop, "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock, "Free For All" by Ted Nugent, and "Flying High Again" by Ozzy. On the road, the engine would be the music.
Cool car, I'm not digging the silver and red. The black and red would look better and the red wheels too much for my taste. Some people are into that tho so to each their own.
There you go Joe that is what we are talking about . Stay advertising turbocharged and supercharged car's and naturally aspirated car's 👍. No garbage electric car's
The GT350 is a better track car, but the Boss has better reliability. Also that isn't fake vents on the splitter. The owner was supposed to have break ducts installed by the dealer.
This is the first mustang that I think I’ve ever seen in a Saga Laguna package didn’t even know it existed. Thanks for posting this it just extends my knowledge on mustangs. But personally, I don’t like all that red on the car so I have to read it as being butt ugly! Lol. 😂
I like both cars, I think I’d go with the GT350R though, I just like the fact that it rev’s through the roof, that Voodoo 5.2 make’s a sound like no other. The TR3160 Transmission is a sore dick you just can’t beat it as far as 6spd Manuel Transmissions go, then there is the fact that the GT350’s have an Independent Rear Suspension with magnaride shocks. One thing I will say I like about the Boss 302LS is I am genuinely in love with the look of the S197 platform over the S550, it’s taken me a long time to get use to the look of the S550 platform Mustangs, they grew on me but I still like the S197’s look better. I’m with you on the red accents. It’s like the carbon fiber wheels on the GT350R it set’s it apart from the base model vehicle. If this were a comparison between the between a 2014 GT500 and a newer one I’d take a the 14 just because I love Manuel Transmissions the fun factor of the is through the roof compared to the pos Heavy AF Duel Clutch Transmission.
That’s just my personal taste, though. And while I love all the red accent parts, I can see how it can look kinda garish to some. But hey, I like the red! And I agree that it gives it its own distinct character!
I love the Mustangs, however they were always a step or 2 behind the Camaro. But, one thing Ford always priced them behind the Chevy making it a better buy.
Choice is clear: If you know how to drive - get the Boss If not, the 350 is more your speed :) This color combo, looks like a legit Hot Wheels car. Nice review as always
Sorry / but I just wonder how the stupid designers allow a design like this in a legendary car. The colors are not consistent and the appendages are very ugly.
That is an incredibly ugly Mustang. The color combo is absolutely hideous. There is no comparison to say a 2020 GT350 or 350R. LS has zero technology and its a solid axle. 350 has approx 80 more HP than this does. No satellite, no nice stereo, no touchscreen. Way smaller brakes, smaller tire combo. Fake front scoops. Hard Pass.
Correction: The ducts at the bottom are functional brake vent ducts! Many people cover them so the brakes stay at the correct operating temperature during normal driving. This Boss may have those covers.

He'll get there before spring/summer for sure!

Only 152 Ingot Silver Laguna Seca s were produced, only in 2012 model year. I love the red wheels. Have one just like it in my garage..😁!
I love the red wheels. I love the overall paint scheme absolutely boss! I would take this over the Shelby 350
Thanks for sharing your vote on this one.

I like the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 in red with the white graphics better it's just my preference but this is nice too!
Nice call!
Loving this Apostle to the Muscle cars I know it isn't all new vehicles but for a used car it's a dandy.

Yes and you can also ket a brake duct kit that runs directly to the rotors.
They come off for extra cooling
