The lie you should use is also dependent on the length of your stick. I think most use a stick too long for them. I believe there are many video's on finding the right stick length. Either way, if you have the wrong lie, it will be difficult to be a good stick handler.
You can also adjust the length of your stick if the lie is not quite right for you. Say, if you are playing with a 6 lie but have some wear on the heel. You can add an inch (cut down wood butt end), and it will play a little better for you. Conversely, take an inch away, or move your grip up to where the butt end is in your palm, if you find you've got some wear toward the toe end.
most of the lies are the same now, I'd only worry about relative lie in the same brand. Lie is an arbitrary number and modsquadhockey has a lie chart for every retail curve ever in each brand.
Great vid! Let’s not forget Sid the squid uses like a 4 or 4.5 lie. Being a hockey stick whore myself I have a ton of different sticks with different lies that I like for different reasons and can adapt my playing style depending on which stick I decide to use. Generally I like around a 5-6 also depends on curve and if it has a rocker or not. Cheers !
Oh yeah, Sid’s stick is insane. It is between a 4 and 4.5 lie while using an intermediate length blade that has barely any curve to it. Thank you for watching!
Great video, I've always been iffy on what lies are and what they bring to your playing style. I use (a lot) of older CCM sticks, so I'm not sure what the lie is on them because, well...I didn't pay attention to that stuff 7 years ago and it's hard to find that info on sticks that aren't manufactured anymore. I did just buy an AS4 with a lie of 6.5 though, so that'll be interesting to try out. Anyway, do you know if your height is a factor in which lie you should use? Like, should shorter players (like myself) have a higher/lower lie? And vice versa with tall players? Or does height and lie not correlate at all? Thanks again for the always entertaining video! Keep 'em coming.
The height does factor a bit and I believe that is where the experimenting comes into play. I cut my stick shorter (below my chin) and I like to use a lower lie for the most part. It is definitely a good thought and will definitely investigate some more! Thank you for watching!!
@@pajerhockey Below your chin? 😳😳 you must be a tall player! Haha yeah the more I mess with experimenting (I was doing some this weekend due to this video), the more factors I realize there are to what affects what lie you should use. More complicated and impactful than it seems, for sure.
Playing style and personal preference is a better way to put it. Depends on how you shoot and how you like to stickhandle. As an example Patty Kane uses a higher lie, look at a picture of him stickhandling... puck close to body. Nate McKinnon uses a lower lie, take a look at a picture of each of them with the puck on their blade and you will see what I mean.@@IraManet
For the most part that is accurate. The p28 is interesting because it has such a big rocker that it’s considered a “dual” lie. Which allows you to handle in tight spaces without the puck sliding under the heel. which is what would happen with older school flat bottom blades with no rocker. Hypothetically.

Each brand usually lists the lie on their curve chart. If you don’t know the kick point of a stick you can find out by asking
The wear on the heel vs toe of course only works if you've got your length nailed down too.
The kick point is is normally the model of the stick like vapour is low for Bauer and trigger is low for Ccm

That’s some high quality stuff right here bröther.

Depends on your playing style
