      I've gotten pretty good at using my face to knock down webs. I usually don't mind, but one time I saw an evil looking F-er right before I head butted him. I was naked in ten seconds shaking out my clothes with my entire group in tears laughing at me. Thank God that was pre cell phone days. It was cold, okay?

    Enjoyed the video! Just wanted to say around 10:00, when you're talking about the fossils in the rock, you said slate and plant matter. Slate is metamorphic, rarely preserves fossils like that. That rock looks like a relatively thinly bedded fossiliferous limestone, and the fossils are most likely animals, a variety of echinoderms like the cheerio looking ones called crinoids, or bivalves like the shells. This area is rich with them, I have done some geologic mapping in this region!

    • @CodyandKellie
      @CodyandKellie  4 года назад +3

      Thank you for watching! That’s way too cool. Thank you so much for the information!!! We love learning about this stuff. So cool that you have done some geologic mapping there! We would love to learn more. Do you have a resource we could use to study up more on the fossils in that area?

    • @ledbetter3006
      @ledbetter3006 4 года назад +1

      @@CodyandKellie I would just look up some data on what the bedrock/surface layer(s) you'll be seeing where you go camping. Most of the time, this is found on that specific state's geologic survey website. Once you know what formation/age of rock you'll be near, you can just search for fossils associated with that time period. Most of the time, limestone in northern Arkansas is Mississippian or Pennsylvanian in age, so look for fossils from ~285-310 million years ago. That's basically how I prep before camping!

      Just a caution ⚠️ for anyone looking in the future. Not all of Arkansas parks are easy access. There are one or two that you need to mind the water level at crossings. To go around the long way can take an hour or two as well. The Buffalo River has a campsite that is that way.

    If you love studying nature and Missouri I suggest checking out 'The Terrestrial Natural Communities of Missouri' by Paul W. Nelson. It's textbook style
    There isn't much on nature in Missouri but there is alot for Arkansas.
    I also suggest 'Ozark Forrest Forensics: The Science Behind the Scenery of our Regional Forrests' by Frederick Paillet and Steven Stephenson from the Ozarks Society Foundation.

    Not always but majority of Poison Ivy and Oak will be Leaves of Three in a cluster, while it can have Five.

      Trails can get tricky quick if you're not familiar with them. I couldn't count the times I've been lost. Honestly, I'm pretty fortunate that my mistakes never got me in too much trouble. Just an unscheduled / unprepared camping trip every now and then, lol. If you're still interested and want to be 100% positive you don't get lost, pick up a Magellan or Garmin for 60 bucks and download that trail into it. It makes it so easy it feels like cheating. I don't like using one, but now that I'm middle aged, it's the smart thing to do and my family sleeps better knowing that I'm not out innawoods tryna missing 411 myself 😂
      Edit: My advice about the Magellan is worthless if there's not decent satellite reception... you should be able to find a coverage map before investing in one though

      Its one of the harder 3 mile hikes. 3 Miles one way, deep creek crossing, and steep terrain

      Going up for Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully it’ll be open. Are there many options close to there that you have found? You guys are great being the only ones that travel in Arkansas and actually show it.

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyyyyyy Dogggggggggggggg!!! This is a beautiful place. New sub here. Thanks to you guys, I am finding out how Beautiful AR is...I never knew this!!! I shared this video on my facebook and a few other people who do not facebook!
    Also you guys are very talented at making vlogs....do you work in the digital world or videographics during your day jobs? The sound is great too.
    I do wish you would lower the volume level on your music. It's too loud compared to the conversation volume.

      Thank you! Neither one of us have ever worked with video or editing. Thanks for the input. Please check out the newer vlogs to let us know if the new ones are to loud. This vlog was made last summer and we have tried to work on that since then.

      @@CodyandKellie I did notice the difference after I watched some newers ones than this one. WTG! I am so surprised you do not have years of experience making videos! You've got mad drone skills too. I've been watching you tuber videos for about 3 -4 years now. Yours stand out! Love the cooking shows too. Cooking and eating are some of the best parts of camping!!! WTG Kelly! I am going to make your sage and butternut squash ravioli! BTW.....Sage is super easy to grow and is a perennial. Back in Ohio it would grow to a small bush size and even had a pretty flower in the spring. Takes the snow and cold. Here in TX it grows year around like rosemary. Thanks to you both!

      It is along the road, and there is also a camping ground that has a small fee. But we always camp off the road.
