Cody, if I were the head of the Arkansas Dept. of Nat Recourses I would hire you in a second. Brother you have a passion for the outdoors and love/pride in your state. Never lose that brother.
Small town America...so awesome
Hi Cody and Kelly
We’re watching your video and having our wine night and enjoying your video from 3 years ago when you guys were still tenting. My husband and I still watch you now with the camper. We enjoy all of your videos.❤
My favorite camping couple!!🏕️
I just love all the places in Ark, especially the Ouachita areas. Also, Cody, it makes my heart so happy that you love nature, water and trees (I am the same), and the fact that you dislike people who litter, &/or leave trash! That is a huge pet peeve of mine.
Thanks for making these. My father passed away on Jan 2 2021 and his parents and my family had gone our whole life. 💕💕💕
Sorry for your loss. I hope our videos can bring you joy and bring back good memories
@@CodyandKellie thank you so much.
My husband and I have been camping Albert Pike since we were teens and still love going there. It’s really changed though since the big flood. So glad we found your RUclips videos. We love watching them ☺️
Thanks for watching!
Very nice adventure. I am impressed by how clean and crystal clear the water is.
Omg I’m so jealous I love watching your video because I love nature and camping.. take care be safe god bless ✌️👏🙏🏽
I just found you and love all the Arkansas videos as I live there. The umbrella magnolia is common around that river- with a cluster of huge leaves at the end of the branch. Or, pawpaws have similar leaves but they alternate up the branch. It's a sub-tropic climate, so there are some very different plants there. Thanks for showing the state's natural beauty.
That is a really nice camping spot.
We love your videos! We are moving to Little Rock July 8th and are ready to explore and camp. Thank you for always posting great places we can check out.
Thank you so much for watching! Please let us know if you need any information about Little Rock!
Thankyou for your educational videos. People please take your trash out of these forests that you use PLEASE! You guys are awesome. Thanks for all your cleanup efforts. Great video content and quality is so good. Keep it up !!
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
That looks like so much fun I wish I could go to places like that
its an amazing experience. Thank you for watching
Just found y’all. I like what y’all have going on here. Keep it up. Subbed!
Thanks for subscribing
Hi Codi, it was nice meeting you today. Your tree is a pawpaw, Asimina triloba, which is host for the zebra swallowtail butterfly, and bears edible fruit. We planted several in our backyard in Springfield.
Hi Chris. It was great to meet you and your wife as well. Thank you so much for letting us know. Its such a beautiful tree.
camping in Indiana locals call the fruit an Indiana banana
Thanks you guys really pretty there. First timer to your video's.Have fun and be safe From Kansas.
Thanks for watching!
me and my boyfriend are going to this spot in a few weeks during our van life camping trip & we've been loving your videos! looks like a magnolia tree!
We found out it’s a umbrella magnolia. Thanks for watching! Share with us your adventures on Dome Life the world from a tent on our Facebook group page.
There's a song that mentions that tree from Disney's, The Jungle Book. Baloo's song, Bare Necessities...
"Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue?"
Knew all those songs by heart because my daughter, Katie, was obsessed with the movie when she was 3 or 4. Now she's 23. Still know most of the words. lol
This area looks perfect for the camping trip I'm planning with my husband for our 25th anniversary coming in May. So much beauty!!! And, you know, Paw Paws. ;)
😊 yes we remember that song now
I love the sound of a tent zipper
Great video y'all. We're headed that way in Mid-Sept to do some camping/hiking and swimming. Thanks for this gem of a spot. (New sub :))
gary babich your welcome. And thank you for subscribing.
So beautiful! thank you for showing me
Thanks for watching!
Another great adventure! I've always liked the Albert Pike area too. The Albert Pike area is almost a best kept secret in Arkansas. I'm going to try some of the recipes. Keep it up and keep the videos coming.
William Smith thank you.
Wow. I must have missed this Video.
What a total difference today. You guys have come a long way. Jonathan is so little. Lol 😆 you guys really upped the Game. Love it 😀 😍 ❤
Wow I driving this weekend from Texas over there !!!🙌
Have a great weekend! Thanks for watching!
Jonathon reminds me of my 3 brothers. I truly enjoy the videos! Thank yall so much from Georgia!!
We have decided this is a place we must visit!!! Thanks so much for sharing, it's beautiful!!
Anytime. You will have a blast
Albert pike is the best. I believe that was a hickory tree. Oh yeah merry Christmas! Best summer memories ever in that place.
Thanks for the beer !
I’d say it’s a Paw Paw or an Umbrella Magnolia. The flower and bark will correctly identify.
Heavenly spot!😘
Thank you! Someone else told us that the tree was that as well
Great video, nice area....Thanks
I saw that same kind of tree on the OHT last May and took tons of pics! thought it was so cool!!! Love this spot so much!
also love that shirt!!!
A subscriber below had told us that this tree is an Umbrella Magnolia Tree. It is so worth a ton of pics!!! Beautiful tree for sure. It is an awesome spot. This might be or top favorite camping spot in the world. Feel like a home.
completed chemo therapy for stage 4 cancer hope to get back out camping this year, wife favorite part is hand dish washing in the scout 3 basin method since we have a auto dishwasher at home
Just subscribed and ordered a shirt. I'm about 80 miles west of you. Love what you two are doing. Hope to see you down the road somewhere sometime. Cheers
Bug Doctor thank you so much! We hope to meet someday as well!
I've been eyeballing this area on the map. Looks like a LOT of creekside sites north of there. Can't wait to scout it out.
Since a flash flood in June 2010 when 20 people were killed in a flash food Albert Pike is a day use only camp ground. So camp at your own risk and please remember those who were lost.
Enjoyed this adventure, August is usually oppressive.
Thank you for watching. We understand the reason behind it being oppressive. We feel for anyone who lost someone on that night.
I’m a bit late to the party, but that tree looks like a Schefflera, which is a popular indoor plant!
your not too late! thank you for watching!
The tree is a Umbrella Magnolia. They grow all over the area your in.
They get ripe in late August or early September. They tast like a cross between a banana and a pear
Here in North Carolina we call them a Wahoo or Cucumber tree. They will at some time will have a red cucumber like fruit in the middle of those leaves. Not a hard wood or dense but heavy.
I haven't made it to Slate Rock yet, but did hit up Brian's place - Stud Ducks after watching your other vlog...good times! After floating Kings River about 3wks ago, I stopped by Eureka Springs brewery...cool lil place, bring your disc golf drivers/putters! That camp ground is pretty sweet right on that creek, I could sleep so well by water.
We love visiting breweries.
Just found you guys and are going thru all your videos. Love your quachita series. Great content! Not supposed to have glass at pike just so you know. That’s my home away from home. Hope to run in to you guys some day
Thank you so Mitford watching, and we did not know that about the glass. Thank you so much for watching out for us! We hope to see you out in the Forest one day
I love you guys videos
You guys should come over to Salt Lake City Utah and I will show you some Awesome places
Thank you. Salt Lake City is on our list
I love your videos 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. I’m going to do some research and plan a trip out there.
Thanks for watching!
I love this area.Subscribed to your channel.
Thank you. It’s one of our favorites
I could not get a good look at the tree but I am pretty sure that is an umbrella magnolia, found in the Appalachian and Ouachita mountains
We just look it up and that’s it! It’s such a beautiful tree.
That’s a Paw Paw tree! You can find the fruit between August and October.
Catching up on the older episodes and glad to see Slate Rock in there, was going to recommend as you two seem to try and hit up breweries whenever you can. I know Shawn and Orianne a bit from the area home brew club they "graduated" from. Great folks...
We love that place, and they are good people! Thanks for watching our older episodes.
Also, do you have a brewery, or have your own home brew set up?
@@CodyandKellie Just a simple homebrewer...usually have a couple on tap, but haven't kept on top of things lately...think I just might go put in a grain order... :)
Right on. What do you normally brew?
@@CodyandKellie I'm generally a mellow beer kind of guy, gotos are a brown Moose Drool clone I call Arkansas Elk Spittle, a simple single grain blonde recipe, and a saison that is kind of a Tank 7 clone... I've noticed you two seem to gravitate towards IPAs...that's something I've never attempted...just takes so much hops...
I know I am 4 years late, but I think it is a wild rhododendron bush. I know there are wild assallias in the Boston mountains area I don't know about rhododendrons.
The tree is a __________ magnolia. I think. Love you video
thank you!
Nice clip!
Thank you for watching
Love the tshirt 🔥
Thank you
Just found your channel. Subbed ✌. Im from Chicagoland but have been visiting the Ouachita 3 times the past month. I fell in love with it down there after going to dig for crystals. I had no idea how beautiful the mountains actually were. Do u have any spots to see snakes?? I have seen 0 in my 3 trips. Tons of Ouachita salamanders though. Theyre endemic to that area. Flip some rocks in the creeks you will find some ✌
Wow. Very lovely preserve. I am absolutely stunned that Pike had it named after him. From what I gather about the character himself, he is the most celebrated Mason in North America. He was a civil war confederate general, the co-founder of the KKK and author of an outline for 3 world wars. His shrine was defiled in a BLM attack in Washington DC however Trump immediately vowed to have it repaired. It is through his most famous work "Morals and Dogma" that we understand Luciferians at the highest levels of government. He also managed to have a name equating to 33 in pythagorean numerology. Great spot all the same, God bless.
Oklahoma is a beautiful state! Had no idea!
Oklahoma is a beautiful state for sure, but this vlog took place in Arkansas.
@@CodyandKellie your right! My bad...Arkansas is a beautiful state!
The PawPaw! I'm in Alabama and I havr 4 trees in pots now that I'm growing!! 1st ones I will ever taste will be ones I've grown 😊 I am making a trip to that area late April and hope to maybe see yall on the trails! One question. Is that creek actually called clear creek? I'll be staying on the Long creek and that looks just as beautiful!
I've seen a bunch of varying comments on the tree. Looks like a some type of Magnolia, possibly a "big leaf" or umbrella.
Hot Springs National Park was America's first national park in a city.
That's true. Also, in 1832 the United States Congress formed the first federally protected natural resource prior to national parks, BLM, and national forest. In 1921, Congress changed the name from Hot Springs Reservation to the Hot Springs National Park. This make Hot Springs National Park the oldest park to be managed by the National Park Services.
Kold onez.. Alwayz a good idea haha ✌️😘🍻🍻🍻
Sure is. How was Loca Lime?
So good! Im goen bak nxt wknd lolol ✌️
Yall should check out dry forks at Hollis arkansas.
My family usually camp there for the 4th. It's not a camp grounds, but looks like it would be up your alley.
Thank you so much for watching and the suggestion! We will have to go explore that area! Just looked it up online, and it looks like that creek flows into South Fourche Site One Reservoir. Is that correct?
@@CodyandKellie yes that's correct. If you camp on the peninsula it's really nice.
@@opmus Thank you! will check it out!
Great video guys. We're heading to this area in a couple weeks - need to escape our Texas extreme heat and take in some Arkansas beauty. We're planning on some backpacking and primitive camping along the Little Missouri Trail; but also looking for a nice drive-up camp spot along close to the river for our first or last night there - would love any recommendations. Thanks
The earlier you get there the better. Any of the roads after the main campground have tons of primitive camping.
The video says August 2nd and wondered if that was right. We live in Southeast iowa and are just going to get back into exploring camping, but with a small Runaway trailer as we are older and wanting a little more creature comforts. We have never spent any time in Arkansas but it looks like there is plenty of camping areas and many that you can boondock.
Thanks for watching! Yes there is plenty of boondocking in Arkansas. Most big enough for a camper. Albert pike has a ton!
And yes sir, this was posted a few days after we were there
The tree you need identification is definitely a species of Magnolia- Umbrella Magnolia. The leaves are sometimes up to three feet long- too large, too long to be a Paw Paw. These trees grow in my land in Virginia and their leaves can be as long as my arms.

DOME LIFE, Nice Video
Thanks for watching!
The name of that tree is Teri. Teri is a paw-paw, the northern most member of the magnolia clan.
Thank you! We had one person tell us it was a umbrella magnolia. Is that a different name, or did they get it wrong? Thank you for watching!!!
Have you guys ever done the whole Eagle Rock Loop? I did it for the first time this October and loved it.
We have not. Would love to some day
The water is so clear and gorgeous, is it cold? I love watching you guys, looks like so much fun
My wife and I are new to the Overlanding Life and plan on adventuring in the Ouichita and Ozark area this Summer, 2024. Do you ever share grid coordinates of some of the amazing places you camp?
We do not, sorry. There are many roads to explore and none of them disappoint
We will be there in about 2 weeks for 3 days. Want to map out some nice spots so I can return over the Summer with a small group of friends, maybe 5 vehicles.
Yep, leave it like you came bro
Hope to encourage more to do the same.
I've just discovered your videos and am enjoying them a lot. You probably know by now, but the tree appears to be a paw-paw (Asimina triloba). I do not think it is an umbrella magnolia. Do you ever camp in Mississippi?
Yes! Thank you we have looked it up and I believe it is a paw paw. We have camped in the Desoto NF only one knight on our way to Florida. The golden water ways hold beauty of their own. Thanks for watching!
I am not sure what the tree is called but I am pretty sure we have pictures ,in one of our last videos, of the same type tree with white flowers on it. It is pretty cool.
Such a beautiful tree! Thanks for watching!
Can you just camp anywhere out there or? Great shots by the way 📸 looks beautiful out there, I'm only 6 hours away and have been longing to go
Yes as long it’s in the NF boundary and not private property
Are there places for a camper. It looks so beautiful.
Every single one of the 34 'dislikes' is either jealous or seriously mentally challenged.
Basically Trolls
My wife and I were camping at Albert Pike nine months before the flood that killed those twenty people. It flooded while we were there. Not as much, but enough that we couldn't cross the river and had to take back roads to Shady Lake to get out. It was crazy. I've got pictures of water splashing over the rock wall at the swim area.
That was such a bad event.
If you can, would you share your pictures with us? Would like to see.
Cucumber magnolia
I heard somewhere if you lather up and wash three times the oil will be gone. Since I've been doing that I haven't broke out.
We believe that. We always scrub really well when we get home.
Do you have the coordinates of this location? I’m heading there next week! Can’t wait
Just watched this video - amazing!!! Have a quick question, looking for an area to park our vehicle near Winding Stair to camp for a few days prior to hiking the ERL trail. I see in a few of your videos that you all parked in very close proximity to your camp site. Would it be safe to leave vehicle there while hiking?
It would. We have never had an issue
This a super dumb question
But the little lake you were swimming in.... how do you know it's safe to swim in?
How do you protect yourself?
Idk if y'all have heard of brain eating amoeba found in these types of waters.
Thank you
I will be visiting this forest next month :)
We are lucky that we have some of the cleanest water in North America. The brain eating amoeba’s are more likely in South America from our understanding
It's a paw paw tree. During the fall it produces an edible banana shaped fruit
Thanks for the info! We can’t wait to get back there.
@@CodyandKellie your are welcome!👍
I think your tree is a type of ficus which is a tropical tree subtropical I would have made a better look at it at the roots but you can always take a image search on Google or go to I don't know there's several apps that identify plants also
Thank you for the info
4:29, I think that is a Cucumber Magnolia
Great video. You showed a few rattlesnakes in another video but didn’t mention snakes in most videos. Do you see them often? I reposted this video on my Facebook page Modern Tent Camping. Hope that’s ok with you.
Frazier Douglass thanks you so much for watching! You can share any video you like. That’s fine with us. We do see snakes often, but don’t always get them on film. We seen a baby copperhead on this trip, but it went behind a large bolder out of sight. We try to film all the wildlife we see, but sometimes they move too fast. For example, we have seen countless bears in Arkansas, but never seem to have the camera ready when we see them.
SASSAFRAS tree maybe
It was a Hickory Nut tree
I know you probably won't want to share the exact location of this spot, but I grew up camping at Shady Lake every year, and that place looks to have been neglected over the years. This spot looks like heaven. Can you ballpark the location of this spot? My 6 yo would love that creek.
It’s in the Albert pike region
It’s in the Albert pike region
Hey y’all. From Georgia just spent a week in Utah. Want to camp off grid. Would be new. Where should I start at.
Hey! Google maps and lots of dirt road driving. Spend the day driving threw your NF and you can find some sweet camping spots
I almost died here two times! 😃
How?
So the deer knows which day of the week it is, Saturday, right ?
Were assuming they have a pattern
The tree is Magnolia
I love your videos guys, these places are beautiful! If I could request for something(personal preference) is that these places deserve more video time, like I wanna see this place more than seeing your face/yourself. Don't feel like your face needs to be in every shot...
Are you guys camping at the Albert Pike Recreation Area? I can't seem to find this campground.
No sir. There are not campground there anymore. We disperse camp along the National Forest roads in the area.
@@CodyandKellie Thanks so much for that! I was trying to find that out. Will be there in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. Great video!
Those spring fed canyon creeks are natural air conditioners.
Sure are
During the night of June 10-11, 2010 a flash flood along Little Missouri River (Arkansas) killed at least 16 people in the campgrounds of the Albert Pike Recreation Area.[1] In a matter of less than four hours water rose from three feet to over twenty-three feet.
It was such a terrible tragedy.
So true! It’s so sad
Would you be willing to meet up and camp next year !? Were planning a trip coming from Texas
Sure thing. I believe we could work something out.
I just found this vid, please tell me you are camping up over flood stage. I don't want to have to go hunting for bodies again.
retepish sorry you had to do that. It was a very sad day. We were on Long Creek.
@@CodyandKellie I know it, love that area too, but you guys should know it is notorious for flash floods. It's about an hour drive there for me depending if I go through Shady or not.
retepish we know. This is Cody. I grew up there as a child and experienced flash floods in the area back in the 90s with my parents. Fully understand and respect the area. Never go there to camp when a rainy weekend is expected.
are there alot of mosquitos in that part of the Ozarks that time of the year ?
Yes. A fire helps and Kellie makes a bug spray with essential oils that works!
I'm like Cody in that I love trees and lush greenery. This is a beautiful place! Could the tree be a Horse Chestnut?
Many people have told us it’s an umbrella leaf magnolia.
So when yall camp by the stream is that a camp ground or free camping?
Speaking of poison ivy, there is a poison ivy soap made in Marshall, AR that is all natural and works like a charm. It's safe for creeks (unlike bath bar soaps) and made locally!
jeremy walter can you provide us with the name of the company that makes that soap? We currently us a all organic soap that is nature safe, but would love to support locals!
@@CodyandKellie www.poisonivysoap.com
We we’re out there today. From Albert Pike old camping area, how would we find this area?
Which area? The campground, or the Winding Stairs?
Where y’all set up camp?
NF Road - 512 just north of Albert Pike campground. There are many camping stops along that road
DOME LIFE thank you! Love that area!
Not totally sure, but the tree looks like an umbrella tree.
Thanks for watching!
