I’m thinking I will tell my oldest son to carry a diamond ring when he goes backpacking because crossing paths with a young lady like you would be something he’d just have to be ready for. Bless you young lady, be safe and enjoy your time out there
Ive seen a lot of backpacking/ hiking/camping videos. This is the first time I've seen a young black woman braving the outdoors. I think its awsome! The best way to learn is getting out there and doing it. I'll definitely be looking for more of your content. Oh and btw...You are a beautiful young lady 😍 Wish I could find someone like you🙏
Haha there are more of us out there! I completely agree. I’ve watched so many camping RUclips videos over the past few years that I thought I would kind of know what I was doing when I started. I was quickly humbled lol. But I’ve learned so much from each trip…still a ways to go. And thank you 😊 really appreciate it ☺️☺️
@@ApeaceofthewoodsI live near Gaylord if you want help practicing fishing next time you're up this way just reach out, great videos you're doing a good job!
@@Apeaceofthewoods The most annoying things will always be the swarming, biting summer insects and having to set up wet tents, gear and tarps to dry at home after camping in the rain! Otherwise, well worth it. 🙂
Living in Michigan, I love that someone is showcasing camping and canoeing from here. Don't doubt yourself as you're getting out there and trying new things, those portages may be easy to experienced canoers but doing eight in a day is a ton for someone new. It will be easy to you one day. Also, as someone mentioned make sure you set the drag on your pole, when casting it should be loose enough to pull out line with some resistance and then when you hook larger fish you can increase it so you are able to reel them in.
Thank you! I can’t wait to be able to get to more places. Michigan is such a beautiful State☺️☺️ I appreciate that. I think the toughest part is how painful it is to have the canoe sitting on your shoulders. I’m sure it would be easier with a lighter canoe. That makes sense…I was thinking that if it was any bigger it would have been really hard to reel in. Even when my hook got caught on something under the water, the reel just kept spinning, so I thought something might not be right
Love that caught a large mouth bass! I live in Michigan, and have spent a lot of time "up north" and in the upper peninsula.you are living your best life ! Keep on rocking sister!
Congratulations on your fish 🐟, that is a decent sized large mouth you did really well. You can catch fish! Sometimes they bite and sometimes they don't as you well know. Another great video, Woodsy, thank you. 😊👍
I admire your grit and your gourmet camp cooking! I shared your channel with my daughter in MQT, and neither of us can figure out how you manage to look so camera worthy after 4 days. Keep up the adventures young lady.
@@JDrex-wb6vq I appreciate that ☺️ haha well thank you to both you and your daughter for thinking I’m still camera ready. I certainly don’t feel that way by the second day. Hoping to do another adventure very soon 😊😊

Looks like you’re having a great time getting out and exploring the beautiful world we are all blessed to live in for just a moment. Nothing but the best in your adventures! I’d be afraid of getting lost lol. Great editing as well. Bass isn’t a very good fish to eat btw, more of just a game fish. ❤
Hello 👋 my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for the tag along. You are quite the adventurer. I'm sorry that I missed your breakfast and dinner invitations. Take good care of yourself and always stay safe out there. 😊 😎
I've lived here my whole life almost and never been to these lakes! I simply must visit them soon as they look gorgeous, as is most of the UP, stay safe and enjoy yourself, be sure to come back, we have much to offer!
This is a very brave adventure on your part. Keep working to improve your skills and accomplish greater challenges incrementally and I'm sure your experiences will continue to increase. Well done!
You are a bad ass, it takes some serious guts to go into those woods with other experienced woodsmen let alone solo, now I've seen it all, even the bears, wolves & mountain lions had to trip, good for you dear 💪💪💪
Uh...holy cow this is impressive! Nice bass, first of all. I've been camping, hiking, and kayaking in the UP for over 30 years. I've only done anything solo in the backcountry longer than a day a few times, and I'll admit it's pretty unnerving to be way out there by myself sometimes. Mind can really play tricks on you, and obviously everything that can go wrong can quickly become a real problem when you're way out there. That takes a lot of will and mental fortitude, but it's so worth it once you get acclimated and start to be able to appreciate the solitude and the beauty. Then on top of it you're setting up cameras and getting some nice drone shots. The UP is one of the most beautiful places on Earth to me, and the most special. Really cool to get to come along on your trip. You're also gorgeous and a better campfire cook than I am. You'll figure out the fishing portion. Generally the perch up there are the simplest, best eating. Pretty much killing it on all levels. Feeling inspired to get out and do this again next summer solo. Thank you. Looking forward to your next video, and subscribed.
I thoroughly enjoy how simply you travel & how open you are to nature & good fortune, like catching the fish. Please keep sharing your experiences in such beautiful places.
I’m a black guy who has been living in Detroit for +30 years. For some reason, this popped up in my feed. Gave it a watch. Lady has a lot of positive energy about her. Subscribed as a show of support and, I guess, solidarity. That said, if she reads this, please be careful out there. Not going to say going this alone is potentially dangerous. Not going to say doing this by yourself might be unsafe. Just going to say, be careful and listen to your surroundings as you have fun enjoying the U.P. ✌️
I appreciate you watching and subscribing 😊 thank you!! You’re right, doing this alone is inherently more dangerous…for various reasons. Being aware of my surroundings and listening to my gut is really important. Thank you for taking the time to show your support and look out ☺️ take care
Congress gave the U.P. to MI to compensate it for the “Toledo Strip,” a piece of land Congress gave to Ohio in a land squabble between the two states. The U.P. Was originally part of WI, but was detached along the Brule River. The “Yoopers” are great people, respectful of nature, and they welcome visitors as friends. Bears might be a problem, but 99% of the time they will avoid humans. Researchers estimate black bears to number over 10,000 in the U.P. Add to that more than 24,000 bears in WI and your chances of seeing one increase. It would be advantageous for people hiking and camping in the U.P. And northern WI to learn more about bears, their habits, and what to do in the event of meeting one. The big lesson, “Never get between Momma Bear and her cubs!”
The u.p. is one of the safest places in the entire United States, worst of it would be Marquette Michigan for safety and that's still safer than almost anywhere. (College town w non locals)
there is a gal RUclips channel called Dr. Hannah Stocking.....this women is wearing swimsuits talking like she is alone for the views.....for if she was traveling with some dude most won't watch. Nice vid. I grew up in the U.P., traveled the world, had some life changing events which ended up to be an unexpected blessing. Now I have a really nice off grid log cabin, and future permanent residence, on a lake southwest of Houghton that I enjoy so much. I just had 15 days off and I spent it splitting wood, fixing and improving things but I also spent a lot of time in flipflops sitting on my pontoon chilling. I enjoyed the spirit of your vid because at heart I am a Landlooker and spend time in the wood here trying to see whats over the next hill, usually with a flyrod as an excuse. Last year we found one of those things. Fishing on a pretty remote part of the Firesteel River my two fishing partners and I planned to meet up after 3 hours. It was 85 degrees. We met up at this random spot sitting on this river rock slope covered in moss. Springs made that spot 20 degrees cooler. As we sat in that air conditioned spot my son pointed out the huge Cedar trees, they were as big around as the biggest White Pines I had ever seen. It was an incredible moment. Enjoy.
Thank you ☺️ I love that you’ve been everywhere and still found your way back. I completely understand why. The UP is special. Amazing you have the opportunity to live the life you’re currently living in such a beautiful place. The moment you described for me..is what life is all about. Thank you for sharing ☺️ you take care as well
Welcome to the yoop, I live near Marquette and happy to see a video of someone enjoying our natural beauty and experiencing nature. I take it for granted sometimes. Thanks for sharing
I can understand, Ive lived I Michigan for 8 years and didn’t take advantage of it until now. I think I want to move to Marquette one day lol. Thank you for watching ☺️
This just popped up on my page. Since I am from Michigan I decided to give you a try. I found you refreshing and loved the quit scenery. I will definitely subscribe and watch future videos. Good luck in your future adventures.
I just discovered your channel today 1/20/25 and have watched several videos partly because it's 5 f degrees out (in Michigan), I'm so glad you caught a fish! That's awesome!
Love your videos! Your transparency when it comes to knowing your capabilities and limitations is refreshing. Regarding your ferrous rod/striker use...Instead of flicking the striker towards your tinder, hold the striker underneath the rod. Then, while holding the striker in-place, pull the rod instead. This prevents you from accidentally dispersing your tinder pile, while keeping your sparks in a tight, localized area. Hope this helps!!
Not sure why this popped up in my feed, but I am glad it did! What a breath of fresh air seeing a woman enjoying the outdoors, and not trying to be a Kardashian wannabe! Awesome! I definitely miss the U.P.
I’ve stumbled upon camping videos somehow & this video was recommended to me and I find joy just watching other people find joy in nature it’s super comforting but it’s a very beautiful thing to see people enjoying nature this is where life and reality is be safe out there and blessings to you … I’ll subscribe too
If you buy some Vaseline and a bag of jumbo cotton balls it makes it way easier to use ferro rod for fire starters. Simply smear Vaseline on cotton ball and fluff it up. It lights first strike. I'm absolutely loving your videos. I'm late to finding you but so glad I have. Iv liked and commented on each. Love the content 👌.
I haven’t seen much yet but I cant wait to see a moose! I just checked out your channel and looks like you’ve got a ton of experience. Wish I would have watched your canoe buying guide 6 months ago!
Thank you for checking the channel out. It would have been cool to have been able to shed light on the searching process. Moose are definitely amazing creatures to find in the wild. We have seen many over the years, and it always leaves me in awe!
@@Bluebloods7 I completely agree. Morals are totally individual and I don’t think we can pass judgement on anyone else based on our own ideas of what that looks like. I think this comment is referring to the fact that I am not sacrificing my own personal morals. And I can appreciate that being noticed
Thanks for sharing your videos. I live in mid-MI and haven't been across the bridge camping in a long time, nice to see the UP is still there. I think you've inspired me to dust off the camping equipment and give it go once again.

Nicely done. I'm impressed that you brave the wilderness alone. I'm a 65 year old black guy, and when I was backpacking, I only went solo once ( in Colorado). I came to this channel because I'm from Detroit (I've have been living in California for almost 40 years), but I've never been to the U.P. and was curious what backpacking there would be like. Well, ..., I salute your adventurous nature!
Thank you ☺️ You were brave to backpack alone in Colorado! I’d probably be a little more hesitant in grizzly country. I have yet to backpack in the UP but I plan to do a few trips when canoe season is over. I appreciate you!
@Apeaceofthewoods , ah yes now looking at a map of the state I see you've been camping in the "mitten". Crazy that I've seen so little of my home state!
@@docdetroit99 I’ve backpacked in the mitten but I have only been canoe camping in the UP. If you ever make it back to Michigan, the porcupine mountains are supposed to be beautiful. I hope to do a backpacking trip there at some point
@Apeaceofthewoods , Backpacking throughout the mitten? Wow, ..., even more impressive. Well, ..., it would be pretty cool to backpack back in my old stomping grounds . However, I'm not sure I could deal with the mosquitos. It's also impressive that you carry your canoe. Salute....

Better fisher -man- than I am. Canoeing is fun. Camping is fun. Both can wear you out. A certain amount of stress camping alone wears one out. Great video!
I've gone solo many times, most of peoples fears are just in their heads. and would only need bear spray and a first aid kit at most. Solo camping is a great way to reset.

Exactly! She said she thought she “over did it carrying her canoe” yet a 50 year old went down the Yukon river & never complained. Sorry, I wish this young lady well, but she has a lot to learn.

It was so much confirmation, and I bless you & may God continue to protect you on your trips 🙏🏽♥️
Happy early 30th!! 30s have been my favorite decade so far. Makes me so happy to hear you feel encouraged because I definitely wouldn’t have had the courage to start doing this if I hadn’t seen others do it first. If you do decide to do it…just know that the first trip is the toughest and don’t give up! It’s so worth it if you stick with it. Thank you for the prayers ❤️ May God bless you as well with many safe adventures in this next chapter of life ❤️❤️❤️
Found your videos today. Thanks for being real. Also, like others have said thanks for doing this without missing half your clothes. You are radiantly beautiful, but I am glad to see a young person sharing their journey without the extra visuals to try and add viewership. Stay real gorgeous and I will always watch. As far as the fishing, stay with the beetle-spin or an under-spin type of lure, as these are more general purpose lures and will catch big and small fish. Also, the smaller fish just gut them and remove the scales. You can remove the head if you don’t want to look at it after, but then fry them whole. Be careful of the bones but you will have more protein to eat.
My wife and I watched this whole video. Very impressive how your learning as you go and are willing to just get out there and try. Love what you’re doing.
This is very well done. I enJOY watching. Another trick for fire starting, get some steel wool and pinch off a small piece. The sparks set it on fire and get you going. Vicks and cotton balls works as well to start a fire.
I am short on words....You're real! Thanks for sharing....will be following. Fellow Michigander from GR, but spend about 45+ days camping March to November in Central to Northern Michigan including the UP. Blessings young Lady. Thx again, The Seabee.
Good on you for taking to the great U.P. woods! I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB from 1974 to 1984 and enjoyed every minute of my time there! I got to range from the Gwinn, Little Lake, Trenary, Munising, Marquette, Big Bay, Ishpeming and back to Gwinn. I used to tell family that there was more water in that area than I could ever get fished or paddled in a lifetime! I even learned to scuba dive in Lake Superior! Been back for a couple visits and it feels like going home. Enjoy your time in the woods and best of luck to you in 2025!
It’s really cool to see you progressing and getting more comfortable out there! That was a great tarp set up. Especially for your first one! If you want an easy set up, our go to is a ridge line with prussek knots. Don’t let the technical terms scare you off. It’s actually super easy and I swear it ended the “tarp fights” my husband and I used to have 😂 we just learned from RUclips videos. Congrats on your first catch and cook! Also, keep at it with the portaging! I know it sounds terrible, but you get used to the pain. A little ruck sack training goes a long way too. Thanks for sharing!

❤ I'm so happy you got that fish! I was so excited for you. 😊 Keep it up girl & stay safe! Love
Aww thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️ I was floored lol. I appreciate you ❤️❤️
I admire your grit and your gourmet camp cooking!
Hoping to do another adventure very soon 😊😊
it was fun watching someone experience new things canoeing. it made me smile. good work!
remember, if it didn't suck a little, you weren't camping.
Thank you!! Haha I’m always kicking myself during the moments that suck…wondering why I intentionally do that to myself…but soon as the trips over I seem to always be planning the next one 😂
@@Apeaceofthewoods that means you're doing it right! :p
Tighten the drag on your reel. Great videos. I really enjoy watching them and the effort you put in. Thanks
Great video! So impressed with your fishing skills! Just moved to the UP, Iron River area and love the area! So much to do and see. Have fun exploring and take care! 😊
Campfire smoke to me is like natures perfume.I think it awakens something in our genes from millenia ago.You will get better at it as you go.Your building some precious memories. Thanks for taking us along.
I actually believe that too. There really is something about the smell of a campfire. Well not even just the smell…you could be alone in the middle of nowhere and they make you feel so safe and cozy. Thank you! I appreciate you following along ☺️☺️
@@Apeaceofthewoods I took the name "Watches Leaves Dancing" As my camping name because I do like to watch the leaves dance when you make a campfife under a tree and the heat rising causes the leaves to rise and fall. my one advice i'm just for advice 😊get a license for GMRS radio it costs 35 dollars radio you carry with you always for anything good or bad things. one time in 10 years where there is no phone radio is the best thing👍👍👍you learn the basics, how to use it, it's really very simple and it's a good thing especially for you when you go camping alone, think about it, the idea is good 💯😊👍👍👍.
Be safe
Hard work for sure. You will get use to it the more you do it, well done!!!!
Hello over in Northern California! Thank you for following along ☺️☺️ haha that’s ok maybe next time 😊 You take care and be safe as well!
I've lived here my whole life almost and never been to these lakes! I simply must visit them soon as they look gorgeous, as is most of the UP, stay safe and enjoy yourself, be sure to come back, we have much to offer!
You’re right, the whole UP is beautiful so I will be back. Every chance I get actually ☺️☺️☺️
Well done, you are very capable, and a gourmet cook too!
Aww thank you!!
Thank you!! 😊😊 I will definitely keep sharing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out again soon

It’s refreshing to see an adventurous young woman simply sharing her experiences without sacrificing her morals to make her channel grow. Kudos!
Aww I really appreciate that. Thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️
"morals" - I think it's super cute when any one individual thinks they get to decide what "morals" are, and are not.
@@Bluebloods7 I completely agree. Morals are totally individual and I don’t think we can pass judgement on anyone else based on our own ideas of what that looks like. I think this comment is referring to the fact that I am not sacrificing my own personal morals. And I can appreciate that being noticed
I know this is probably going to sound corny but, im sure the rain is so peaceful that you got the best sleep of your life.

Aww thank you both ☺️☺️ I really appreciate the kind words!
This is very well done. I enJOY watching. Another trick for fire starting, get some steel wool and pinch off a small piece. The sparks set it on fire and get you going. Vicks and cotton balls works as well to start a fire.

You have a lot of integrity and grit. You have some depth as a human being...keep on.keeping on.
