I'm not sure I would have found it funny at all without the makeup and character beaks, but those make it hilarious. Really a lightning-in-a-bottle sketch.
Except it didn't; the sketch was funny despite them. The actors who kept a straight face -- usually including Heidi -- sold the sketch and allowed Heidi and Ryan G. to break.

One of the most genuine laughs in SNL history, from her and us while watching it. It was a top 10 SNL moment for me. I still laugh when she turns around, and butt head looks on like,.. who,.. me?
Her breaking character was what made the bit funny and go viral. Not only did she lose it, but she struggled regaining composure. I died laughing and it was the buzz online as everyone took a mundane SNL skit and LMAOed over it. This will go down as one of SNL's top skits just because of Heidi.
Plus it’s only made funnier by the fact that Heidi NEVER breaks. All these years she’s been stone faced so to see her break SO badly is just hilarious 😂
LOVE HEIDI but to be fair, Ryan Gosling was breaking up and laughing pretty much in every sketch he was in and he had everybody around him cracking up the whole time as well lol
That was such a simple concept for a sketch but executed to perfection. And her breaking made it 100x funnier 😂. It was so dumb, but sooo good. Easily one of the funniest moments in recent SNL history. That whole episode was really great. Definitely one of the consistently funniest ones in a long time.
That was 12x funnier because Heidi broke character - it gave Mikey Day two chances to look behind himself on either side which was all that much funnier - nicely played! I had so much fun watching the rest of this video - thanks!
The only thing that was bad about Heidi’s interview was how super annoying Hoda and Jenna were! They should stop cutting off people with their loud laughter and meaningless banter.

@@robwebnoid5763they have to fit so many sketches in their runtime, so the show is planned out to the SECOND. if things go off script/delay further sketches, then they might not have time to complete all the sketches before they’re off the air. if a sketch goes way overtime due to breaking character then the entire crew needs to adjust on the fly, change lines, change sets and costumes differently than discussed before. and its hard for every department to be in the loop while the show is running

It was the same when it was Hoda and Kathie Lee. I think part of what makes their show successful is they present it like it's just girlffiends talking. But when girlfriends get together, they tend to get excited and talk over each other! It can get very annoying lol. I'll add, though, it was hilarious seeing Heidi's face go blank when Jenna asked her about what she does to not break, and then says, "You know what **I** do?" It's like, Sweetie, we are not even in the same situation...
@@AndrewMacLaine While I agree, they have to remember that their guests aren't one of their "girlfriends". I do think it was MUCH worse with Kathie Lee because everything was about her. I think when it's just Hoda, she's really good about making her guests feel the center.

She's the new generation cast. Part of that is Kenan Thompson who's an old pro and has been funny thru the years. He's steadfastly highly rated in his sketches. But to me the best times were in the past with many wonderful performances by previous cast members.

My 3 adult children have all moved back into the family home, all 3 have partners and my oldest has his two kids. I’ve been out of the house with my husband’s home. They seem so much happier, they have been able to go back to college and save tons of money.
Heidi made that skit the absolute stuff of legend. Its going to spawn a movie, I know it. They even went to a movie premier dressed as Beavis and Butthead.
I can watch that Beavis and Butthead bit over and over again just because of the way Heidi busts up when she sees Butthead. The barely repressed titter when the "Cornholio" tweet comes up is almost as adorable.

I’m convinced Mikey Day entered this sketch with the full intention of making Heidi break.
He said she saw what he looked like, but his head wasn't as exposed as it was when the show aired. The wig was more pushed forward.
