I saw this documentary as a kid. Everytime there was a weird storm cloud I was worried an asteroid like this had hit and the rock vapor was coming at us. Though don't worry, you would feel the massive earthquake from impact long before the rock vapor got to you.
There was a time when I thought the same sort of thing whenever a cloud passed by the sun and cast a large shadow while I was doing something inside, since the same sort of effect was used in Starship Troopers right before the asteroid in that hit.

Given the size of the meteor, you'd be EXTREMELY unlikely to be the ONLY person standing at the point of impact (seeing how it hit around the middle of China)

Oh I'm pretty sure some bacteria would survive, possibly some invertebrates... maybe even a vertebrate or two.
But an event like this would set back Earth life by 600-400 million years, and given that the Sun will start evaporating oceans in that distand future, it would be a death sentence to intelligent life on Earth. There likely wouldn't be time for them to evolve. Hell some humans might survive in space or in deep bunkers but they'd be in for a rough ride.
And then there's the part where 99,999999% of us die. Still a bit depressing that. :P
