The tip to turn your work really helped me. I was trying to create a sleeve for a sweater, and I had this weird loop in my cast on stitches. You were the first video out of three to explain that. It made all difference!
Thank you so much! That was so clear! I also prefer the knit on method of casting on so this made much more sense to me the way you did it. I’ve been through about 5 other videos trying to find one that was clear, concise & easy to follow & I found it in yours 😁 My pattern didn’t explain HOW to cast on in the middle, just that it needed to be done, so thanks again for the great explanation.
Thank you, Johnny, for this video on adding stitches in the middle of the work. I am working on a piece that requires the binding off of 26 stitches in the middle of knitting in the round, and the next row casting on 26 stitches. And, oh, by the way, it is 2x2 rib, so I had to get the ribs to line up. I did figure it out after watching this video. Great instructor!
Johnny you are the best!! Thank you for your patient instructions. You are why I am still clikin along trying to learn new sts and try to knit something besides a blanket square or a hat. 💗 you, your wife is a lucky lady.
I didn’t increase enough in my top-down raglan jacket I am making so I figured out how much more ease I needed at my underarms and tried this method. It looks great and it sure beat having to rip back 10+ rows of intricate cable work just to add an extra 8 sts either side. I’m very happy with this technique.
I like your videos you give a variety of options for different types of project. I used your cast on here for my sweater sleeves, and it does create solid ridges to pickup stitches from 😊
I just found this cool vid....thanks so much guys. I’m self-taught and have done crochet and knitting for many years, I never perfected the detailed stitches that make professional looking projects. With your awesome help, now I can. Thanks again.
I’ve been looking on u-tube for a couple of days, ugh but I found you! Thank you so much for these easy instructions and your video. I’ll be back! Hugs my new instructor!
Thank you so much! The loop method is too loose, as you said. I tried the tutorial for my WIP and it was a huge mess. I had to frog several rows Several times. I still had to mend the button hole. This is SO much easier! Subscribed!!
Oh that is the best cast on stitch. I used to use the other method but found just like you said that the stitch was not a stable one. Perfect and thank you!!
I’ve got it! THANK YOU. After turning the work I realise the yarn is out to the back as if to knit then the cart on stitches made, then afterwards the work is turned, the yarn is put to the back again then knit to end of row. I am going to start again but at least I understand what to do! The pattern is really tricky even though it is described as easy. It has wrAp and turn,uo1, and my favourite P2 togtbl. You have to be a contortionist to do that!!
Thank you soooo much !! I watched loads of other videos and it wasn't turning out right , and I watched this and turns out The trick was turning my work around and then casting on....so thank you so showing me the right way !!!
Amazing for buttonholes. Seeing how it works on gloves today, for the thumb gusset. I have small hands and huge thumb holes, compared to the rest of the glove/mitten, is my biggest peeve.
I do love your teaching videos. You make it clear and easy. Thank you! I do have a question: I'm knitting a ski mask in which I have to make a space for eyes. The pattern calls for backward loop cast on of 32 stitches (the number I bound off at the bottom of eye space). I've done and undone this 3 times. Would this work better? I appreciate your reply!
Your able to just turn and work the added stitches vs making a hole right? Im thinking of making a horizontal bolaro and my idea needs me to add 3 to 6 stitches on the ends and starts of the row to get the length (due to thick yarn) for the length of my arms. I dont want to make it in pieces as it would break up the variegated colour pattern.
I was really struggling with all the steps and crying while doing but this video really helped me out after 2 and a half weeks I mastered knitting because of this video!🥲😂
i prefer your cast on actualy, for the button hole! i hope it will make a result less tight than the button hole for my purse. i need a larger button hole for the bottom of my purse so i could put a piece of cardboard in between my knitting and reinforce my purse all made of yarn! Really sweat project! 😊 too bad, we can't share picture of project on youtube comment. i really want to share my work so far ☺
I have been struggling with the buttonhole thing - I notice that where you start the cable cast on - you also have what appears to be a yarn over instead of a knit or purl stitch - I though I was doing something wrong - how to do we stitch this on the next row around? Thanks
I would have spent the rest of my life trying to figure this out before ever thinking about turning the needles around. Thank you!
Me too! I thought it was genius!!
This was SUCH a big help! It never occurred to me to turn my work around when I added the stitches. Thank SO much!
I came to say the same thing! I never thought to turn my work either and the knitted cast on is my standard cast on.
Thank you for this quick tutorial; it was the instruction that I needed for the thumb gusset in a mitten.
This is the BEST tutorial I've seen for adding on mid-row! Thank you so much!!
Wow, this is the first time that I actual understand the process. Thank you!!!
The tip to turn your work really helped me. I was trying to create a sleeve for a sweater, and I had this weird loop in my cast on stitches. You were the first video out of three to explain that. It made all difference!
I got the weird loop too with the way i was doing it! So simple and straightforward now. Great tutorial!

Juliet…now you can knit your fingerless gloves, and I’m not sarcastic. Love mine!
Been knitting for 68 years and did not know this method. So much neater than my old way. Thank you.
I learned something new about how to cast on. I really like his goofiness too!!!
I love the turn the work backwards method looks even better
I'm not familiar with that technique.
You are the absolute best teacher! Thank you.

Thanks. I was stuck on a pattern and couldn't figure out how to have the right amount of stitches at the end of the row. Very clear to follow.
I like your videos you give a variety of options for different types of project. I used your cast on here for my sweater sleeves, and it does create solid ridges to pickup stitches from 😊
It took me two days to find this! Thank you, it was great!
Very nice tutorial. For buttonholes, I like an even stronger edge, so I do a cable knit CO.

Thank you, your way does make a better stitch.
Very good clear, buttonholes are always a problem for me seems to depend on the yarn used how neat the buttonhole turns out.
Lol!! Thanks for the jig at the end, made my day ☀️😁
Really helpful. Thank you so much. My pattern didn't explain how to do this and I've not knitted buttonholes before :)
Thank you soooo much !! I watched loads of other videos and it wasn't turning out right , and I watched this and turns out The trick was turning my work around and then casting on....so thank you so showing me the right way !!!

Thanks for this helpful video!
Did you add the same amount of stitches than you casted off in the previous row?
Thank you this was so helpful.
Very Helpful, thanks so much.
Thanks, I think I can remember it now!
Thanks! Already did a wrong CO in the middle of knitting, I did the CO right this time, thanks?
Thanks so much! Will be saving this one for future reference! :)
Johnny you're awesome! Thanks so much for your help!
Yours is the only video that knits INTO the stitch instead of between stitches for the cable cast on. How does this make the tension different?
Thank you. 😊
Super easy too!
Brilliant! I will use this method in future. You made me laugh out loud at the end. You're such a joker! 😁
Great tutorial!!!

Glad you found it useful Step!
Why wouldn't you purl on your stitches (on the wrong side) instead of knitting them on? Great videos BTW!
