Seriously!!!!! I’ve watched so many tutorials on this because I’ve been struggling to figure out the kinks for like a month now and if I’d found this vid earlier it would have saved so much fabric, thread, and most of all frustration lol
First time I practiced with this, it didn’t work for me. Thread kept getting stuck and tangling, zero gathering happening. I came back to rewatch and tried again, and it worked! Yay!
thank you very much..i couldn't think what i was doing wrong when I tried to use this foot..now I know..high tension and long stitches. thanks you. you cleared this up.
I'm having a problem with this foot. It begins gathering quite well, but after a bit of gathering, it "hangs up" and the fabric gets stuck. Using lightweight cotton. What am I doing wrong? I've gotten 9-10 inches done and then it won't work any more.
All the feet work except the gathering foot I put it on and it does not go all the way down to the fabric what do I need to do or get ? all the rest work.
@@ritaflores2319 One thing that NONE of these videos mention is that the top layer and the bottom layer FEED at different speeds. I am very new at using the gathering foot and after much trial and error, I realized that I was trying (out of habit) to feed the top and bottom layers together. Doing this causes the bottom layer NOT to ruffle. I found that if I use my left hand (Im rt handed) use my left hand UNDER the top layer, to just guide the bottom layer to keep it straight, without putting any tension on it, and then use my right hand to keep the top layer in the slot on the foot, that I got much better results. It takes a little getting used to, especially if you are like me and used to holding and feeding the layers together. Also for thinner fabrics, I use tear away stabilizer on top of the top layer to help keep it from slipping out of the slot.
You mentioned the tension of the thread. That's one thing no one else mentioned in their videos. That was very helpful. Thank you 😊

That was so helpful, the minute I followed your instructions I was able to do the ruffle right 👍 away.
Wonderful!

When you say lower the tension, do you mean make the knob number smaller? Doed this make the stitch looser?
helpful..
