That is an epic comment. Thanks for sharing.

No bruh
I work on aircraft myself for about 12yrs now with private and commercial. Surprisingly its not at all difficult to basically go up to any aircraft grab it and take off, seriously there’s nothing/nobody’s gonna stop you. I guess just yourself at that moment. RIP RICH thx for not hurting anyone else.
Maybe have ignition keys....
his real name is SkyKing
@The only mucoysis he had no idea he could even take off but still ricked all those other pilots lives when he took off. He could of easily lost it and crashed into other planes on take off.
I mean he hurt whoever owned that airplane....they're expensive af I'm sure....then again I'm sure they had insurance
i guess local workers, pilots, etc just dont expect a random normal civilian would do your could know how to fly one of these birds.
Rip to this legend, he went on his own terms and didnt hurt nobody, all of it is actually pretty impressive
He really didn’t want to hurt anybody you can tell he just had issues and I hope he’s in a better place

@Shadow What an awesome, epic and atheist own.
I'd expect nothing less out of someone with the name 'shadow'

Yes he’s in a better place where he can’t hurt anyone. Crazy mofo.
I remember this they tried to talk him down
He was very upset about disappointing his friends an family
Said he was going to nose dive it in a safe place 😔😔
How did he disappoint them?
@@ryanward8849 by taking the plan an well knowing he was about to end his life
He was also low on oxygen! Impairing his thinking, and maybe even worsening his depression!
@@GrimReaperNegi valid point but his mind was made up about what he was going to do before he ever left the ground
He was a good guy very depressed
Not the kind of guy to put a gun to his head or hang himself
But ending it with a bucket list of flying a plane
Poor guy, life hit him hard and he wanted to fly a plane before clocking out and doing so in a remote island so no one else would get hurt.
Isn’t remote. There is a family or 2 that lives there.
Poor guy? Don't feel any remorse for the moron who could've put many other innocent lives at risk. If you're gonna take your life, don't take others with you.
Guy steals plane. Takes said plane on joyride doing flips and loops in the air. (Take into account that there are THOUSANDS of planes flying carrying passengers at any given time). Guy then proceeds to crash said plane into an island which I’m sure he researched to make sure that he wasn’t crashing his stolen plane into anybody. And poor guy? Bc he obviously didn’t want anyone to get hurt 🥴
This is such a stupid comment.
tragic
It’s amazing how much that aircraft could take they were just not designed to do loops and rolls. He did everything and couldn’t care less and the plane did just fine until he decided to get a closer view of the earth.
Yeah the dive bomb at the end was pretty sad, he could have been a great aerobatic pilot. At least he chose to go out alone, for some reason I can’t help but feel respect for that.
@@7XHARDER they shot him down make no mistake about it
Dude is a legend in my book
sad case
Dude did a horrible thing, but aside from the loss of aircraft and setting fire to some trees, did make sure that as few people would be affected by his stunt as possible. He was in constant communication, telling ATC where he was going to keep people clear, flew over the water so he wasn’t a danger to people on the ground, and picked a remote area with no houses to end it all. What he did was awful and needs to be learned from, but relatively speaking it could have been much worse.
@@brianbeach3024 horrible thing what ever he stole a plane didn't hurt anyone
50 people shot in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend that's horrible stealing a plane is nothing but funny 😁
RIP SkyKing! I didn’t know him but a friend worked with him at SeaTac and said Richard was going through a lot at home. He was a good guy who had a bad couple of weeks - he wasn’t looking to hurt others which is pretty clear when you listen to the full radio communications from that day and his discussions with air traffic control. He just wanted to do something spectacular and even when in flight he said he didn’t think it would end well for him considering he didn’t know how to land it. I encourage anyone who thinks what he did was terrorism to listen to the full recordings from that day. He made a mistake but even in doing it was trying to protect the public from his decision. It’s why he crashed into an almost empty island.
Judging from the manoeuvres he was able to fly I hardly believe he didn't knew how to land. But he would have faced a long jail sentence
The Sky King will live forever in our hearts.
I was the Captain of Alaska flight 322 that told Tower that they needed to scramble the fighters to intercept the Q400 not knowing the intent of the use of the stolen aircraft.
U r forgiven
Crazy and Brave or the other way around.
I think our world missed out on great potential from this guy if he only had a better options. Hope he is in better place.
World will miss out? It's just one guy, not 100,000 people.
Now he is in a better place called mud
He's not. He's just dead.
he's probably chilling with Osama Bin Laden in the after life lmfao
He was a beautiful man. RIP Sky King
It's crazy to think that there are millions upon millions of more people like him who hide in silence whilst begging for help.
If only they all had planes
Exactly, one of them is one of my closest friend who failed his pilot academy test here in Indonesia. And until right now he’s still traumatic and could not think rationally 😞
This was his way of begging for help? No way! He did not want help. He said he did not plan on landing it.
I some how missed this story in 2018.

I remember that I live on a island off of Seattle! It was amazing and horribly sad. The man was not interested in hurting anybody but himself
He only stole 30 million before killing himself. And he had no idea who he would hurt. He was NOT a pilot.

Imagine being on the plane
Well I learned 1 new thing that he had the plane running before he moved it out with the tow vehicle.
Release all of his communications so there's a better understanding of his intentions and why was able to take off, fly, but then landed as he did. If anyone has details on this story please link where to find it. Very interesting story
There’s an airport communications channel that has everything
Ask any pilot: taking off is easy, landing is the part that actually requires skill. When this happened in 2018 it was revealed that he had spent a lot of time on commercially-available, high-end flight simulators which presumably is why he knew the startup and takeoff process.
You can type in anything having to do with stolen plane in Seattle. There are a gang of videos
The air traffic communications with him are on RUclips. He really wasn’t looking to hurt others, he just wanted to see Mt Rainer and the Olympic Mountains before he took his own life. From the full radio transmissions you can tell that he was a sweet guy in the midst of a manic episode. No anger or aggression - just joy and a little bit of embarrassment for bothering other people’s day.
He had a screw loose, but never really knew it until that day.
His own words as to his intent. Also, minimum wage.

Just one of the crazy things that day is he's already got the engines running as he pushes the plane out, it moving when he has to open the door and jump on, then he takes off with the brakes on, tires smoking, those propellers are so strong it takes off with the brakes locked
I hope you're resting in peace sky king 🫡
I’ve never heard of this story!! Wow this is amazing yet also crazy!! Who does something like this?? Smh 🤦🏾♂️

Thats control tower saying they won't talk this guy because of how he's handled his plane on the runway, no joke.
PLENTY of people suffer with thoughts of unaliving themselves but they don’t ENDANGER innocent people! This man is so selfish!!!
I'm so confused as to why people are calling him a legend. If he had killed others, whether he meant to or not, the reactions would be very different. This was stupid and it could've been tragic for more than one person.
I remember this, I thought the jet fighters were gonna shot him down soon as possible but they left him fly until he crashed. RIP Russell

If you see what this guy did with this plane, you'll be flabbergasted by how effective the plane's autopilot is at correcting itself. I wonder if a jet is more or less effective at making such corrections. I'm guessing more effective.

On one of the audio tapes toward the beginning one of the tower control guys said “I’m not even talking to him”. And you could tell by his tone he was disgusted with Richard Russell. It was like Russell was dirt.
He meant he was unable to talk to him after trying four times to find out who he was and what he was doing
He definitely went out like a boss.. Kudos for him not killing anyone else and giving this as a memory forever in a kinda less tragic way.. RIP

It's not a security breach when the person has legal access to the planes and chooses to abuse it, but hey let's create a false narrative and throw in some fear mongering.
It kinda is though….
@@alexander53 and what security did he breach?
@@sluflyer06 he stole a plane my guy.
And he had mental issues. We’re lucky he didn’t wanna hurt anyone. He could’ve easily crashed it in a populated area.
Why do they not have a key for the ignition? This ain’t GTA, he shouldnt be able to just hop in a plane and fly away.
@@alexander53 key? That's not how security works, the planes are protected by access control. This situation is what you might call and insider threat, there's almost nothing you can do to stop someone who IS authorized to be where they are, and when they're supposed to be there and simply decide to a use their credentials. Same thing as a server admin with admin privileges....if they want to wipe the entire company network and walk out, they can, because they were trusted with that access.
@@sluflyer06 he was not authorized to fly the plane… yet he did anyway. This is very clearly a security flaw. Not sure why you’re trying to argue otherwise.
