    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    Jerry's country stuff is stone cold legit. It's nearly impossible to imagine anyone, no matter who, doing this song any better. You can't separate the song from the personality.

      Agreed - but I got to hear it back in late 1957 when my sister brought home "Great Balls of Fire" which I flipped the record to hear an amazing version of "You Win Again" the old Hank Williams classic. No mistake that all the good ole boys from Memphis and in Jerry's case Feriday, had country music in their blood.

    • @likesanddislikesetc
      @likesanddislikesetc Год назад +7

      @@cguzelli1 don’t you wish Hank Sr. could have lived long enough to hear Jerry Lee sing you win again? I love Hank Sr. music but Jerry Lee knocked it out of the park with You Win Again. I’m afraid there will never be singers like Hank, Jerry Lee, and their kind come along anymore. The conditions that created country music just don’t exist anymore 😢

    • @cguzelli1
      @cguzelli1 Год назад +3

      @@likesanddislikesetc - Jerry knocked any song that wasn't his out of the park putting his stamp on it. Country music, in fact all music continues to evolve into sometimes unrecognizable forms. Today's country hasn't sounded like traditional country for decades, but is true of rock, rap, jazz, even blues, etc. We tend to gravitiate towards the music we heard growing up. Agree, there's no one in C&W greater than Hank Sr. and he's been gone for almost 70 years

When we walked through the door Jerry Lee was on the little stage banging out a tune. It was an impromptu concert for the 30 people in Hernando's Hideaway that night. I watched his documentary and in my opinion he was a way better country artists versus his rock n roll, singing country songs just fit his voice more naturally to me. I think this was his best track right here again just my opinion. Also, I believe he might have been a little envious of Elvis. This "She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye" was absolutely flawless delivery and piano playing. I love the old time country, this new country sounds horrible. Anyway that's my 2 cents now I'll get back to metal shred music that's my bag.

      @@regmason2329 people talk mostly about his piano playing but not so much about his voice. You'll often hear that Elvis is a better singer and jerry a better musician wich isn't true. It's very hard to sing like Jerry. People should listen to his rendition of "who will the next fool be" in the BBC radio in 1964, or " to make love sweeter for you" in the tom jones show in 1969, to notice his incredible flow. The way he used his voice was very subtle. Elvis was great but he wouldn't have been able to sing like this.

      @@siggeammitz1644 you probably understand music better thant most, the average people can't understand how great Jerry's voice was back then. I'm a singer/musician and i found out really hard to even try to emulate Jerry's singing style.
