The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

No matter the talent of his father
Hank Jr. voice walks in no one's shadow Respect
Hank Jr. is the man.
Proof he's always been a star, just look at him and listen to his powerful rich tone, beautiful! He's living proof a country boy can survive & i just know his Daddy would be SO PROUD of his little Bocephus. So glad he's still here with us today singing September 3, 2023. ❤
Much respect and admiration for Hank Jr. That's a hell of a shadow he had to grow up in.
Much much admiration indeed .
No doubt.
Very but he made it but his son didn’t make it anywhere
And he exceeded expectations by becoming one of the greats.
@@trentjones3918 III did great.
He's doing an exceptional job here. Every bit as good as his legendary father.
He could sing!!!! That’s for sure but his own catalog ain’t a patch on Hank sr.!!!!!!!
There’s no denying Hank Williams Sr songs but I am damn glad Hank Jr made his own shadow cause a Country Boy Can Survive!
Me too… I love the Hank Williams Senior song but not with strings. Ed Sullivan was a jerk. The guy never smiled. Even as a child I despised him.
The power of Hank Jr. voice is very impressive. I believe his detractors were seriously mistaken! God bless Hank Jr. He's one of the best!
You should hear hank 3 do his granddad's songs hes sounds exactly like him
should be called carl jr not hank jr as his bood dad was carl smith who was also very good singer!
@@Nerdlife4589 Hank 3 sounds nothing like Sr to me and can’t sing even half as good. Still enjoy him, though.
Agree… Jr has great chops, a slightly deeper and more resonant voice!
This is an awesome segment. Hank, Jr. sang with such maturity of voice and heart at just 14 years old!
Who wouldn't love this such young talented boy, like his dad, love you Hank jr.🎉❤
He was FIFTEEN when he filmed this performance. Barely knew the father whose long shadow he likely was not ready to step into. The man has had a difficult year: losing his daughter, bumped off the Monday Night Football telecast he had been synonymous with. But he became an iconic entertainer in his own right and a deserved Country Music Hall of Famer.
Tony G. Pizza can’t believe he was only 15, the sound of his voice is so mature.
He's actually only 14 years at the time of this performance
@@mikegibson8698 wow
yes, he desrved the hall of fame but not as hank jr but carl jr as his blood dad was carl smith also good entertainer and singer!
@@vigorkomar7296 been a Hank Jr fan for over 40 years and never heard that at all. So I call BS unless you have reliable source.
Talent runs deep in that family.
Hank Jr. can moan them blues with best of‘me, incudin’ his daddy
I've always enjoyed Hank Jr and have a lot of respect for how he charted his own path and didn't just keep singing his dad's songs.
I love ALL of them Hanks🎻🎸
Absolutely freaking awesome!! Hank is the man forever!!!
Oh how things have changed for Hank since then. When he broke out of his Dad's shadow he craved one hell of a career. A true country icon
Now that, sounds like hank sr, hank jr looked so young at that time.
14 years old, the voice of a man twice his age
@@bullypopful yup
Wow. I grew up in the 80's. This shit blows my mind
Hank Jr. was only 14 years old when he made his first appearance on Ed Sullivan's Show and a few months before his very first single "Long Gone Lonesome Blues" became his first Top 5 hit on the country charts.
What talent! He’s truly amazing.
Jr.
had just as good a set of pipes as Sr. Love both for their influence on my life!
I sure miss old country
The true definition of country music!!!
Hank III is a wild one and saw him live. Love him!
Hank Williams was a great great country singer star, that's 1 of the Reasons why he's in the country Hall of Fame. R.I.P. MR HANK WILLIAM'S YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Never listened to Hank Williams’ music before. I enjoyed that
He did well. He was so young, 15 years old.
always the best ,it was a privilege growing up with his music ,thanks HANK
I always. Loved Hank Jr and I grew up with Hank Sr he was my mom's favorite so I don't know which I love the most ! Both are great 👍
First thought it was hard to believe he's that old and was on Ed Sullivan then remembered I watched Sullivan live.
hes in his 70s
Im sure Hank Sr. is looking down with pride, his baby. boy didnt fall far from the tree! I love Tear In My Beer! Their both GREAT! 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
Hank Williams Jr is a good singer, but hasn't got that unique quality sounding voice of his Dad, that I fell in love with back in the 1950s.
I feel so young again😭👍
@JJ Scott Preach it haha!
Well Your The Next One Out
@@cardboardheadguy7814 Haha!!
I was just jk
That's the guy who sings, "Are You Ready for Some Football?"
What a song, it's a big legendary hit. Beautiful voice and melody.
I really appreciated that.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a sweetheart ❤
Thank you I love this music.
Koool outfit + WOW!zah performance.
I love Hank Sr. but I gotta say I'd rather listen to Hank Jr.s greatest hits.
It's like comparing Britney Spears to Judas Priest. Great in their own respects, but vastly different. One's classic, heartfelt country, and the other is outlaw through and through
Very good at his daddies songs I have his albums around this time
Awsome
Inspired. Thank you for posting.
Priceless... on a whole bunch of levels. Not saying I agree but this is so poignant. Fantastic talent...
FOR EVER HANK WILLIAMS JS !!!
I wonder who played Sr songs more my momma or Jr's!!! Probly my mom did, I know every word he ever wrote!!!
So sweet
Love it.
Hank Williams III sounds JUST like his Grandfather. It’s absolutely amazing!
this is Hank Williams Jr.
false hank III sounds that way as he imitate well, his blood grand dad was carl smith!
only trying to imitate his false grandpa, sad and poor! better to copy his blood grandpa carl smith!?
Great
Dang he was really good. Just a little more refined but the soul is there.
👊⚡🎸
CLASSIC HANK WILLIAMS JS !!!
If hank williams sr had lived long he would appear at ed sullivan show.
I think he is great. Wish he would of added “I Saw The Light”.
Magnifique
Well he nailed that one don't surprise me none though because a country boy will always survive and so he did in real life the fall he had off that mountain in the movie living proof is proof that A Country Boy Can Survive
👍 👌 👋 😀
Hank Sr is still better.
the false hank jr is actualy carl jr being the blood son of carl smith also great singer!
Totally agree,Hank Snr voice was superior
COOL!
they say hank jr has strayed away...from all the songs that put his daddy in an early grave
Bocephus without the beard and glasses
same like his blood father carl smith!
@@vigorkomar7296 ,what..?
@@56cadd yes!
@@vigorkomar7296 Bocephus don't look like Carl Smith. He look like Hank, haha.
@@56cadd no chance! take look at carl and false hank jr when was around 20 - zerox copy!
I never thought he sounded like his Dad until he yodels.
yeah, but when he got older, his voice changed.
@@TimerGameroryxGaming I'm sure his father's voice would have changed too had he lived long enough. Lifestyle can have an impact as well. I don't know Hank Jr's success in music but I doubt it's the same level as was his father's.
@@Tonithenightowl Yeah, but If hank sr was still alive, he would still be making the same music as he did in the 40s and the 50s. So, I'm thinking hank sr's voice was going to stay the same, IF, he was still alive to this day.
@@TimerGameroryxGaming Well if you don't smoke or drink your chances would be a whole lot better would be my guess.
Well yeah but, first of all, people including hank sr, didn't know that smoking is bad, nor the drinking part. Well, let's just say that hank jr in this video sounds like hank sr.
The Unique Position.
Hank jr was born in 1949- so that makes him 14 years old here?
You got it!
I see the difference in him from this video and after he fell on the mountain. Difference between in his voice and having to be a shadow.
He was 14 years old.
Ain't he cute... CLOAN FOR SURE!!
So dam cute
Hank Jr loved his mom but it’s well documented by hell just about EVERYBODY that she was narrow minded in her advice to her son about his music. She was not a good listener at all & it took Hank jr getting into his twenties to break her one track minded management of his career. He’s a very uniquely skilled maverick and his own man. It would’ve been absolutely fascinating to have seen how Hank sr would’ve handled the same situation. I suspect he would’ve said just do your individual art and style son.
He was only 14 in this video?
Where is the steel guitar. Makes a big difference
It makes me feel like a rotten rooster again
As I was watching this, I was thinking.. Hank Williams Sr. most likely wouldn't approve of Audrey and others trying to raise Hank Jr. to virtually be a clone of him. What partially made me think this?
There's an interview where George Jones talks about meeting Hank Sr. for the first time when he was 15 years old. The lady that introduced him told Hank that he could sing just like him. According to George, Hank told him that he used to sing like Roy Acuff. But then he realized that they already had a Roy Acuff.
What year is this?
Hank Jr. Sings his Dad's songs better than his Dad did, and I think his Dad is great!
his blood dad was carl smith not hank!
the false hank jr blood dad actualy was also good singer - carl smith! i remember his hit "hey joe", really good singer!
I hear strings, but there's no strings in the band. Long Gone Lonesome Blues was one of Hank's best songs...along with May You Never Be Alone Like Me, and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, of course.
All the way miming - ain't no wires on their instruments too!
It was probably the house orchestra....
@@markusr7421 Look again, the guitars have cords hanging from them.
Don’t be silly, this was totally live. The string section is off to the side off camera. This is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard a young Bocephus. I must say I’m extremely impressed with his poise and talent. Wow!
Pretty good for a 14 yr old
Playback to studio recordings.
And there is no one there to applause.
Dang hank is looks 18 but is only 15
2 weeks after JFK assassination
What the hell happened to this guy?…oh wait…it’s a “Family Tradition”..
I bet he was a ladies man😌
these ones were disgusting till he became his own man and started drinking.
What's disgusting?
his blood father carl smith was good singer so the false hank jr had the gens to inheret!
the false hank jr should change his name into carl jr being the blood son of great singer carl smith!
This may answer why Jr doesn't sound like Sr
@@williamhegg6817 yes, carl smith was a great singer but far from being the genious like HW!
Your cornbread ain't done in the middle.
@@rockinredneck57 you mean I'm wrong? compare picts of carl and false son.?
