Brillient Neil as usual you went above and beyond,,, so please do more shoots like that,,, before the summer disappeares on us, its also great to see location shoots different places,,, Well done again.
Thank you so much Ray, I really appreciate that. I think you will enjoy my next video in that case as it is similar in style to this one. Thank you again for your support!
What a joy to be able to meander about once more and with the PERFECT end results, such a great teacher and Inspiration Neil! The location could not have been more perfect but then again it’s the artists vision behind the camera that makes it all come together! As a landscape gardener in the Deep South I am so looking forward to the autumn season when work finally slows down and I get to explore the landscapes with my models and do more of what I truly love! Stay blessed my friend!
Thank you so much Isabella - such a lovely comment! Yes, I absolutely loved this shoot! I hope you are able to now go and out and shoot where you live too :-)
Neil, where've you been hiding? Binge watched a few of your videos. So refreshing to see and hear a near local accent. Loving your work. And lockdown/Tier 3 is a nightmare!
Great work. I've done a few portrait shots with waterfalls in the background. I usually take two shots, one at a slow shutter speed for the water, and another exposed for the person I'm taking the portrait of then blend them together in Photoshop. I think your method came out better than mine and I guess I'm going to have to pack my strobe and other gear next time. You're an inspiration Neil.
That is very kind of you Ralph, thank you very much. Yes, there is nothing wrong with your method at all, I just thought I'd see if I could make it work in camera. At first I was struggling, I think because the exposure I was using was too long (anything over 1 second meant that Beth was blurred) but once I had that right it worked well. Again, thank you very much :)
That was a really great video Neil, very enjoyable to watch and something I’ve been meaning to do for some time. Encompassing my love for portraits and wedding photography with my first love, landscape photography. Great Video!!!!!
I truly enjoyed watching that video! It’s definitely something I want to try, now that some restrictions have been lifted here as well. Thank you Neil!
Neil Redfern Thank you! Curious, have you used the MagBeam? I love the wide shot, and was thinking of also trying it with the MagBeam as well as the MagSphere...
I do have the MagBeam but I have only used it for it's other use so far; where you can use it to project shapes and patterns. I would be interested to know too if it would work in this sort of scenario - great question. I will have to try it next time
Very nice mate, loved it from start till the end. Nice results as well but like you mentioned; going out there with a friend and working with your camera... Jus that is great and would have been enough. The rest is bonus :)
I agree with every comment, you are a genius! And also so brave to go back and forth twice. I loved this type of behind the scenes, I have learn a lot. Congratulations to you, the beautiful model and the filmmaker 🙂
Hallo Niel and thanks for another great Video, the idea is great and really works well. It gives me Inspiration for more Photo's of my own. You are, as you said lucky to have a model like Beth as this helps when trying new Ideas. Please keep on giving us these super Video's Lyndsay
Hi Lyndsay, thank you very much for the lovely comment, I am really pleased you enjoyed the video and yes, Beth is amazing to work with! Thank you for the support :)
Waow--the things you do to get your fix (& shots)! Love the neutral density photos, especially the cooler temp backgrounds. Your model is gorgeous & seems quite the trooper. What more could you ask for? I'm glad you were finally able to get out, too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Richard, I really appreciate that. Yes, Beth is fantastic to work with and is always happy to go along with my crazy ideas, it makes everything so much easier when you work as a team like this :)
Encore merci beaucoup! :-)
Once again Neil, brilliant explanation and photography. Did you use the second curtain, when using the strobe, as this in my understanding, allows a ghost like image and captures the last move of the model🤔. I’m not a professional & still learning. Thank you for all your stunning videos.
Thank you very much Chris! Good question, I am not sure to be honest, the problem of the movement was more to the fact that there was a lot of ambient light, so I could not get the image I wanted at an exposure as long as say, 1 second. But 1/3 seemed to be a sweet spot where I got the motion of the water and Beth was not blurred. It was a fun trial and error exercise! Great question though and thank you very much again :-)
Fantastic as always Neil. I get so much from your vlogs. One question on a purely practical note,I often wonder re such location shoots as this , what did Beth do re changing into her wedding dress ? I'm guessing it's just done discretely at the location itself?
This was a great video. Loved the location and all the information. Just curious what would have happened if you used rear curtain sync on your long exposure.
Thank you very much Pete! Using rear curtain wouldn't have made much difference (I don't actually know if I used rear or front curtain) when using the shutter speeds I was using. Plus the water wasn't being affected by the flash. It's a good question though!
@@NeilRedfern Thank you so much for the reply. I am just now getting into long exposure. I just figured if your i am doing long exposing. The moment the shutter closes it flashes the subject at the last minute. But what do i know hahaha thanks again!!!
Thank you David! I don't know much about variable filters but I bought this one for my Sony 16-35mm; and 82mm variable ND filter made by K&F: amzn.to/2MozgIi
Hi, I use a Sony ICD-TX650 (you can see it clipped on to my shirt) I'm not sure if that is the best option as the audio is never as good as I would like, but it does the job. The camera I use when I am walking is a DJI Osmo Pocket with the extension rod - it's awesome
Seems pretty good when u are using it.. seems clear and crisp, could the problem always be the fact as photographers we are to overly harsh on ourselves, lol and always want better.. Super Neil chat soon
Thank you - and yes, maybe! It's great if there isn't any wind, but like you say, I'm maybe just being a bit harsh on it. It definitely does the job :)
Can you shoot flash with slow shutter to get the painterly effect in waterfall? I tried that on a portrait at F4.0 shutter at 1/25 a second and my subject was blurred.
Great stuff ! That was excellent work, the photography was amazing and you made it look so easy (well apart from the hike haha.) Thank you for doing this, makes me want to go out, find a model and shoot some waterfalls 😁
I watched this again and some of the photos you took are stunning, well done to both you and Beth for taking the time and effort into making such an informative and educational video and for the inspiration you have given us. Cheers 😉
Better still have the veil flowing behind the way the water fall put the bride in a sitting position above the water line and let the veil flow like water like a bridal veil of water it is ok just send my cut 🙋🏻♀️
So glad you got to go out and have some fun with your friend. The shots are beautiful! Thx for sharing
Thank you very much Jerry! Yes, it was great to be out again

Thank you very much James :-) I have a video coming out on Sunday which I think you will like

Can you shoot flash with slow shutter to get the painterly effect in waterfall? I tried that on a portrait at F4.0 shutter at 1/25 a second and my subject was blurred.
How do you freeze the moment by using hss don’t you?
so the key to have a model on a waterfall long exposure photo is using a good flash to kinda freeze the face of the model?
What stop of filter and brand did you use pls
Hi Mark, it was a variable ND filter ND2 - ND32 from K&F concept
