Considering I'm cracking that sucker and sending it to PSA if it's something I'm flipping? YOU BETCHA!! CGC even with comics, has a lot of...doubters...right now,as their grading standard has been announced,by them, to have eased up.
9.8 has been the big guns
9.9.and 10 were rare.. very rare.
Now,they're coming back far too often.

I went to school for design and signage and one thing that was very tricky was finding an accurate date for type and fonts. In many cases a font can be a good way to pinpoint the era in which a sign or a card in this case, was issued. Art Neveau and many Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern designs are in our vintage cards and easy to spot, but finding the name, person or foundry and date isnt so easy. However, many fonts have been redesigned or it's a new design made to look old and can confuse even professional designers.

I totally agree with the price comparison between PSA and CSG/CGC. My graded collection is 99.9% CSG/CGC and with the price disparity, it is great to buy CGC cards, but you sure do take it on the chin when it comes time to sell.

That Chesterfield piece is amazing and originated from super collector Barry Halper. I went to the Sothebys auction in NYC im 1999 and came home empty handed (that live auction brought in over 20 million) with insane prices and was able to pick up items at a reduced price after including items belonging to Cy Young. My father also passed on his love of collecting to me and created this collecting monster.

Why would anybody pay 3x as much money for a card? Just because people tell you PSA is better? What are the standards that separate the different grading companies? Just because people are overspending for PSA cards doesn’t make them the best.

Timing of that Wolverine card is a coincidence for me. Pulled it in 1990 and it’s in fantastic condition (Centering and corners are solid). I had no idea a PSA 10 was worth that much. Finally, I sent mine out to PSA in early May and it’s in grading status. After realizing the value, I should have taken pictures of it. I hope somehow they don’t do a switch out on it?

Flow lines: Free reholdering is too retroactive in my opinion, and not really the best way to solve this issue. Here’s the thing. It seems like a small % of each order is affected. So here’s my suggestion: While they are “looking into it” and finding a fix, just update the “QA Check” phase to re-encapsulate any affected slabs before shipping out. I mean, not to sound blunt, but do your job. A QA inspector is hired to catch/correct quality issues during inspections. It has to be minimal material cost on their end, for ultimately happier customers. In fact, I just tried an experiment: I have an order with PSA currently, and I just used their QA customer service request form to preemptively make this request. The form is normally for once you have your slab in hand and see an issue. So I just included a certification number (they ask for this) from one of the cards in the order I mentioned, and a picture (they ask for this) of a basic flow line image I found so they know what I mean. We’ll see how/if they respond.

Me and my late stepdad bought probably 70-75 boxes of 89 fleer JUST chasing the Billy Ripken, first the FFACE,then the black, white box and scratched off versions...and of course, Ken Griffey jr. Needless to say...he had a LOTTA GRIFFEY RCs when he exited the mortal coil this past October!! We were 20 minutes out of Baltimore after living in the city for a number of years...Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer were always signing free autos at some gas station opening other such businesses that paid em a small fortune, Billy followed suit one off season, with a twist. Remember it vividly cause I was P*SSED!! He'd sign a ball...but not YOUR ball..it was a freakin RUBBER DOG TOY basically!! Looked like a grey baseball kinda, felt very very rubbery and cheap. Cards were bring yer own.
Preface: My stepdad was freakin HUGE...6'5, 275-280..huge beard...man was a bonafide, wore his colors bada** biker.
I handed Billy the 89 fleer FFACE.
He gave me a look and ripped it in half. Zero words. No "I'm not signing that kid" or "Haha... aren't you a bit young for that language" Even "I can sign this for ya" and anything, any old card or random team schedule.
    Nope.
Thumbed to the right telling me to move.
Paul was 5 people behind me...for about 2 seconds.
When I tell you that guy's soul left his body momentarily I mean it. All color drained from his face, he looked ill.😂
But Paul was a very very kind man...he softly asked him why he would do that to a kid. (15, just kinda small) Yammer,Stammer gulp and awawawa....he signed 2 for Paul.
Then put a Lil hand written thing up about not signing that card.
Cal jr,Sr were always so gracious...Billy? We never saw again. Cal is in Vincennes Indiana on occasion for Ripken league stuff...I always jump over to say hi...I had his old locker in High school in Aberdeen.
....I miss chasing cards with Paul. He was such a good man....and he passed with one hell of a collection of personal Brooks Robinson items along with his mountain of mainly junk wax. Happy father's day,Paul....wherever you are in the ever expanding universe...I love ya man.

You should look into that "Barry guy". He had what was considered the best baseball collection in the world outside the Hall of Fame. It was so vast that when he sold it they published the auction catalog to the regular book market. The Hall of Fame spent big money on a part of his collection and even made a permanent display wing for it. Then it was discovered that a ton of his stuff was fake. And he knew the stuff was fake, but had half convinced himself that it was all real.

Generally (and i mean just Generally) the younger crowds just know psa is worth more, so the circle keeps completing...i only grade and not with psa, when i buy a Raw card that i absolutely know will be worth more graded...i find deals on Raw and resale for a still fair price...yes i make less, but in this case it's made up with in volume... obviously there are older adults that sadly buy the grade & not the card...just because something is labled a 9 doesnt always (a lot actually) mean its a 9.

Psa has been majorly screwing up lately and hopefully that'll finally impact the disparity. Both sgc and cgc grade more consistently and accurately but the idiots that invest haven't quite figured that out yet for most cards.

Much like I did with the Ripken in 89. I sold 5 of them for 500 and the other 2 I traded for a Koufax rookie and a banks rookie that later graded PSA 6. Nothing has changed in my approach since 1971 and it's served me well. But...collect what you like. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😬🤪🤪
