What’s the best of the Ruths worth?
Congrats to Sam, he’s an awesome guy. We met a couple years ago and he has an amazing collection. I’m so happy for him.
Very cool!
Mike, we're the same age, and I've been collecting vintage since 1994. Back then up to about 5-6 years ago you could snag high quality vintage HoFers like this fairly cheap. I remember winning a 1933 Goudey Dizzy Dean for $184 in 2005 and being so mad thinking overpaid for it and will never be able to sell it! Most of my 1933-34 Goudey's and Diamond Stars HoFers I grabbed between $25-60 each and when I was in High School, you could buy T206 commons for $5-10, and HoFers for $40 or so. What find really interesting is that we're finding new cards all the time, sometimes 100-160 years after their issuance. The 1916 Tango Eggs cards were first found in 1987, and another small batch in 1991, Back when Jefferson Burdick was alive, he didn't know about the 1910 Darby Chocolates set since it hadn't been discovered, and the checklists for the T206 was completed in 1942, with the Slow Joe Doyle error being found in 1980 by Larry Fritsch. This s fantastic. I really like this find, and it reminds me that I haven't seen everything and certainly don't know everything that the hobby has to offer. Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Ryan! New finds galore
He's only 19 years old
I'm 60 years old and a car lover too, owning more than 20, and I went down that road too, sold 77 T-206 tobacco cards in 2007, a ton of HOFers in that stack to buy a 1977 AMC Matador Coupe. Cards were still flat from the crash of the mid 90's overproduction. Wish I can those same 77 cards today.
Happy Anniversary. I just celebrated 36 years on October 1st.
Congrats, Doug!
Congratulations on 10k subs and of course Happy Anniversary too.🎉 Hope your wife and you have a wonderful day.❤🤩 Very cool find the Ruth cards are great.🤯😮 Take care.👍🔥❤️👌
Thank you so much 🤗
What an awesome find! Very cool cards!
I would say 6 figures on the Ruth. The other cards are less due to fewer collectors alive that collect those stars.
Agreed
Congrats on 10,000 subs! I am only 9,819 behind you LOL Keep doin' what you do, love the channel!
Thank you!
Congratulations on 10,004 subscribers Mike !!! Great content as always!!! Wishing you much continued and Thank you for making enjoyable and great content. 🔥👏💪
Thanks Carlos!
Congrats on 10k Mike! I think the better of those Ruth’s might push 100k, for the other that’s less well centered probably 50k. But they are so stupidly rare that a bidding war could ensue. The way people are throwing money around at this stuff these days who knows! And as you mentioned it’s a literal playing days Ruth card!
Well said
Congrats on 10k and your anniversary! Appreciate your videos! They keep me company on my lunch breaks!
Glad you like them!
CONGRATULATIONS on 10,000 subscribers! So richly deserved for your great content!
On this video you mention the subscriber count, and then the thumb-nail of the Vermont Collection appears, with your surprised face. Makes it look like you're flabnergasted with the 10k subscribers. 😂
That's a great base-ball buy by the chap you mention. Would be interesting to know what he paid for it (of course, none of our business), and what it's all worth ungraded vs. graded. It might be 'blasphemy' to some, but I always like to hear when people do well on a purchase; and commiserate with those who've made a bad buy (it's all a learning experience).
Yeah I always try to get those details but unfortunately they’re not always forthcoming. Thanks John!
Congrats on officially getting to 10K subscribers!
Thank you!!
Congratulations on reaching the 10,000 sub mark. Happy Anniversary! No idea on the worth of the Ruth, but I would guess over 75 grand.
Thanks Ken!!
Great video!👍
Thanks Steve!
Babe Ruth 30-40 thousand
Congrats on 10k!
Thank you!!
Just crazy Mikey! Great stuff
I would think high 5 to 6 figures!
You and me both!
I'm not sure about value but I have seen several recently graded PSA 2 vintage cards up for auction on ebay. I was watching some 1968 Topps Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente cards that were all recently graded PSA 2. The cards look like they could have gotten 4 or 5 grades by PSA 10-15 years ago. They all auctioned off for low to mid $20 range. This type of thing - low grades by PSA for collection worthy cards - affects the market. There could be a price crash of sorts for the older, vintage cards graded and slabbed by PSA in the 3-6 range (ones without a sticker). One of the possibilities is more regulation of the collector card industry. This happens when the market is affected by a single company and there are is a lot of money lost. I think regulation is on the horizon. Card companies and grading companies are starting to mess with the economy. I would be very hesitant to purchase any older, vintage card graded by PSA. They are easy to spot by consumers because they don't have a PSA sticker. There could be a market correction for many overvalued cards. The current economic models and price structures - plus a lot of ethics questions among those companies and breakers - means this is not a sustainable market. I suspect either a market correction or regulation is on the horizon, maybe both.
Congrats on the 10k Mike! Here's to the next 10,000!
Thank you!
It’s obviously hard to put a price on the Ruth card. Rarity doesn’t always mean high value. I would guess $3,000 to $5,000. Nice find for sure!
Yeah a good point that I should’ve made. I just think a playing days Ruth could command a lot of money.
@@JunkWaxHero That’s true that it’s a playing days card. My Dad has a 1949 Leaf Premium Babe Ruth that graded a 3 with PSA. Only 25 total examples graded. REA sold a PSA 3 in 2023 for $4,800. But that was produced after he stopped playing
@@karldykstra3567 plus aren’t those oversized? Less demand for those.
@@JunkWaxHero Yes they are oversized cards. Dad obtained his directly from a box of 49 Leaf packs in April of 1949. We recently graded it and tucked it safely away! Keep up the good content! Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers
@@karldykstra3567 thanks Karl!
Hard telling..
A shade over 100 K I would guess.
Yeah me too
I'd say the Ruth is worth either tree fiddy or 1 mirrion.
Are they blank backs?
Yes
50,000K ID ASK.
I would tell the grading company, here are my terms:
1. I am going to GIVE you the honor and rare chance and opportunity to grade these extremely rare cards.
2. Having said the above, you WILL NOT CHARGE me a nickel on grading these. If you CANNOT abide by that...that is fine, as I will go to the NEXT company which I am certain, WILL AGREE to my terms of a free grading.
3.I am willing to send you $50 for your time to grade my cards...FOR FREE.
Yeah...I know...I am a bastard....but this gentleman has something QUITE rare. He should rub it in the grading house's NOSES...and he should RUB it in the auction houses' noses (ie. iF they want to auction it off....fine.....but he should DEMAND no seller's fee whatsoever.... In other words, he is giving them the "honor" and notoriety of selling such an incredible find).
These companies who are making tons of money OFF collectors...NEED to be put in their places.
Here's the problem with that thought process, for cards like these, there are only 2 companies that grading with would mean anything - psa or sgc and neither would do that.
And they’re both owned by the same company
@JunkWaxHero lol true but that wouldn't have influence over my point. The parent company is hands off on the operation of either
