Gives an extension so the light can be mounted further forward so as not to create shadows being mounted further back. But breaking down the shotgun to clean becomes more involved and less field expedient. Have to remove all the screws, and careful not to lose them, of the handguard to be able to breakdown the barrel and get to the ARGO gas system to clean them, as well as to get access to the bolt.
That's a very nice shotty, as an Aussie I find as much as Americans can pretty much have whatever you want, you also have an amazing amount of small rules to make it difficult. Adding the lights, sight etc is the fun part as I have a Bioto tactical coach SxS with a flashlight, red dot sight and shell holder on the stock which is a hoot to use.
I own a Benelli M4 since 2016. I shot over 1000 rounds through it and it is still absolutely stock, not counting the Holosun sight I mounted. I paid 429 after shipping to purchase the goodies from Freedom Fighter Tactical back in 2019. Think I paid 1899 for the shotgun from Bass Pro. It's just funny because I paid more in accessories for my M4 than the entire cost of my Mossberg 500.
I initially went with the Truckee handguard as well, but I ended up replacing it with the Midwest Industries handguard; it seems to be built better and feels and looks nicer to me.
There are other shotguns that are giving the M4 a run for its money, namely the Beretta 1301. But the Benelli M4 still holds the gold medal in terms of durability, reliability, and finish resistance. Many other options are better than the M4 but it still has its place and purpose and still is incredibly reliable.
I just checked out one without the pistol grip, the standard stock, and I liked it a lot. I definitely liked it more than the one with the pistol grip. So all it would need is the mag tube. Around 1850. Want it bad.
7 years with my M4 first thing added a cylinder choke tube for slugs and Fed Flight Control 00 Buck Shot. I went with a Bennelli Field Stock and mounted a RMR Red Dot. Sure is a soft shooting shotgun.
My M4 is setup pretty similar. I run the DPP on the rail of Mesa Tactical side saddle it's mounted on. I have the Midwest Industries handguard as well, it's great. I ended up spending way too much money at FFT as well to undo the neutering; my M4 came with the collapsible stock, but had to replace the receiver extension to allow it to actually collapse. The M4 really is such a beautiful and fun gun!
Great video on an amazing weapon, hands down the best weapon on the streets while deployed. Carrying the M4 in an urban environment allowed you to take out insurgents where ever they hid. With the M4 you could skip shoot any where to clear ladder wells, down alleys around corners etc. You could breach entries ways and generally place terror into anyone on the receiving end with a hammered pair. Practice your tactical and combat reloads and and just keep pushing, thanks for the good memories,
Hey brother, I'd recommend putting a hand stop on your support side of the rail, up front (opposite from your light) so you can rest your support thumb over it. It's a little thing i do on my rails, even on my AR platforms. Even on a gun that's perfectly comfortable to C-clamp, it gives you somewhere to rest your thumb without making any noticable compromise in stability, as well as something to post against cover. At the end of the day, do what you want, just keep looking cool and fighting the good fight.
Damn you got to show this benelli m4 customization. Now my wallet is starting to feel a little lighter. I love this build. Now I’m obsessed to build this exact setup. Not much more I would change out. You nailed it!
Any dpms 308 lower, their upper in your state legal length and proprietary mag in capacity legal for your state and it's the best mag fed shotgun going. The full auto test guns with suppressor are 🔥
Beautiful shotgun. Just as Beautiful as the 1301. However both are too pricey and harder to find, especially where I am. I actually got lucky finding a mossberg 930 spx. Upgraded a thing or 2 and added a couple of things and its great.
I live in Canada and these things were like $2k. I went to a local gun shop and they had a beneli up on the wall, last one in stock. only thing was it wasn't a beneli. it was a revolutionary arms impact R4 but every part is interchangeable with beneli and it costed half the price. I bought it. It's one of the funnest guns and smoothest guns I've ever shot/owned
For my light I used the standard surefire tape switch with the Magpul M-LOK Tape Switch Mounting Plate - Surefire® ST to keep it lower profile. It’s much cleaner. I love the Midwest rail.
Trex Arms makes an extension piece to mount that Surefire light. This allows the light to be closer to the end of the barrel to eliminate shadow. Works excellent with suppressors.
There's quite a few names for ghost loading. Carrier loading, preloading the lifter, I even heard stack loading. Same process just a different name. The only thing about all ghost loadable shotguns is you must have a bottom attached lifter. Most shotguns have bottom attached shell lifters. Only Mossberg and Maverick pump shotguns cannot be ghost loaded. The lifter is attached to the upper half of the receiver. Only the Mossberg 930 has a bottom lifter. One more shotgun that cannot be ghost loaded is the Ithaca #37 shotgun. There is no ejection port on Ithaca shotguns. All loading and empty shell ejection is only at the bottom. Ghost loading is possible with Remington 870, 1100 and all other Remington's. All Winchester shot guns, all Beretta's, all Benelli's, all Stevens, all of the Turkish made shotguns.
@@zach9036 I definitely understand that rationale. The M4 is definitely vibe and I understand the appeal as a grail gun. I’ve owned both, and for the money the 1301 is definitely the best bang for your buck (pun intended). Sold my fully decked out M4 at the height of the pandemic…definitely regret it when I see videos like this.
I would love to see you do a video on an older Ithaca 37 12gauge. The modern Ithaca's are not capable of slam fire, the older ones were designed for it. I have one, it handles beautifully and they are designed so that loading and ejection is from the same port on the bottom reducing places of dirt ingress.
Good idea. "Here it is folks, a blast from the past, John Browning's own...Ithaca 37". The 37 has a special place in my heart. While I learned to shoot on an Auto-5, the Ithaca 37 was my first shotgun, given to me at age 10.
Beautiful piece! I’ve been looking for a good semiautomatic shotgun for home defense, I was looking at the 940 pro and the 1301, I was going to hit all honesty skip on the Benelli now after seeing this, I have changed my mind
I have a M4 with the same setup except I’m running a Aimpoint T2 on a scalar mount, surefire scout light in tan I have a BFG USMC basic issue sling and Arisaka Mlok QD sling mount on order.. love this shot gun! The aimpoint T2 cowitnesses the ghost ring sights
I know you don't want too much blur but I think the video would look a lot more professional if you reduced the shutter speed a bit to make it less framey. I have a display with a really slow response time that adds blur (effectively anyway, more complicated than that) and its framey for me, so I'm sure it looks a bit tiring to watch on OLEDs/fast LCDs panels. If the reason for it is more necessity because its really bright where you're filming, you can't increase focal length and setting your ISO higher adds noise then fair enough. If its to make the shots of you shooting look better then you could always just have two presets and only use this one for the shooting shots, something a bit "slower" for the shots of you talking. I really enjoy your content mate and I hope you take this feedback/criticism in stride, just my opinion and if you disagree with it then fair enough!
Just a disclaimer…..Stay away from the B & T quadrail for BM4…..They look sick but the shooting pressure will snap the guide ring right off the barrel. Also when I purchased it….The lower receiver and barrel did not fit together properly and had to send it back to benelli usa to be re machined….they fixed it and I DO LOVE my shotgun…just some things to be aware of.
I bought my first gun 5 yrs ago and tell myself that's it, no more. I was wrong. From then until, I owned seven and still telling myself no more. Colion make me start to rethink thst decision with this M4. Nice looking.
since you said you like to wrap your thumb while shooting, you should look into the briley 3gun M-LOK handguard, looks really good and very clean but also allows for you to be able to wrap your thumb more without burning your thumb! I absolutely love mine
I put several "upgrades" on my M4. An expensive ($380) well made forend with multiple M-Lok slots and Picatinny rails .Installed a laser and a lower triangle grip This was my second because the first one loosened ($285.).A 7 round mag tube was essential! Also three different larger charging handles (steel and Titanium), an Urbino stock and a larger bolt release. Meprolight sights don't work so in the junk drawer! The forend made the gun too heavy and the grip felt bulky so I removed it with the laser and lower triangle grip. The heavier charging handles would fly out on occasion while shooting heavy slugs so I went back to a handle that is only a bit larger than stock to have less mass. The Urbino stock had the rubber grip loosen which I epoxied back but the the entire unit loosened while shooting so I bought the 3 position adjustable Benelli stock. Bottom line, the only accessories I now use are my new Romeo 5 Red Dot sight, a slightly larger charging handle, the bigger bolt release pad (a must have) and the adjustable Benelli stock. The gun is lighter, more ergonomic and I now have a parts drawer with well over $1.5 K worth of hardly used parts for the M4 but I did learn why Benelli designed the gun as it did! I should have left it as new with the exception of the stock which had no hand grip and the length of pull was far too long, the bolt release which was a PIA and the 5 round mag tube which was ridiculous.
My m4 was a great shotgun I just wasn't satisfied with it. I got rid of it after 2 years. Very well made just didn't think I got my money's worth. after selling it was able to grab 3 other weapons fire arms even snagged a lever action 444 marlin which I freaking love till this day. I clean it just to pull it out the case and admire it.
Esstac shotgun card is less weight than side saddle. I had one but the side saddle is harder to get rounds out of than the shotgun card. Reload times sped up dramatically. QD mounts are a must for packing or long term carrying. If yours has the option, get the rifle groves choke tube. I noticed a dramatic difference in consistency of accuracy.
I also have an M4. I added a Carrier Comp Extend Magazine, which is made of titanium. I will be adding a DPP now that Scalarwork offers that option. Thanks for your excellent site.
Just picked one up last weekend....traded my benelli Supersport for it. Have enough sporting clays guns and wanted a proven combat shotgun as that is my new interest. It is like Thor's Hammer and it will run. A fine piece of Italian craftsmanship like all other Benellis
Mine is the M1014 which comes with the skeleton stock and a non-collapsing tube and is the Marine Corps designation.. Briley trigger pack and loading gate. Trijicon SRO optic. What you purchased is a 7 round magazine tube. I bought a titanium one that looks identical to the original. Couple other things here and there.
Never had a malfuntion with my Benelli M2. The only upgrades were my ghost ring sights, shortened stock and an extended magazine extension. Most accessories are not needed.
Really nice set up. I’ve done the same thing only on a budget started with a mossburg 930 and did a lot of the same mods you did. Because the mossy is a tank I also did Q.D. points for a sling as well. If I had crazy $$$$ I’d love the M4 or a 1301. Lov your channel please keep doing what ya do you really inspired my build.
I have the SBR version of the M4, took the longest time to get the tax stamp for it. I absolutely love this gun, in hindsight I wish I went with the longer version of it because of the ammo constraints due to the length. The collapsible stock was the first thing I added to it and I have yet to do anything else with it, I think a small reflex/red dot is next. This was about a decade ago, so I have no idea what a collapsible stock goes for these days, but even then it was rather expensive. I'd by lying if I said I didn't like the normal rifle stock though that it came with. I changed the safeties and the oversized charging handle. I added a normal rail on top, but never mounted anything to it, but that scalarworks rail is so clean, this video might finally get me to finish my M4 now.
Just a thought, find your hand placement on the rail, install a 45° Mlok flashlight mount and wrap it in grip tape. Should be a safe place for your thumb on top
The sexiest part you can add to it is the Benelli M4 Muzzle Brake with included non Choke Adapter. It turns it from wow to Holy Shit WOW. And yes keeps the front from moving pretty damn good. Mine is overly stupid rule compliant and was stupid over expensive to do. Got the H2O version. Best handling shotgun out of the ones I have. I would say the recoil is about 20%-30% less than my Supernova. Smooth as Silk. Wanted to keep the upscale H2O look so ended up ordering the Tube from Benelli-(took 4 Months to get) and changed the follower and spring. Personal pref. but I hated the adjustable stock so went with a Mesa Tactical Urbino Stock. Awesome limb saver and perfect size for me. Looks more hot rodded too and the pokey old stock won't get caught up in clolthes, jackets or other gear.. Comfortable cheek rise and solid. Spent another grand+ but it's what I wanted.
Have everything you got on there except for a holosun 507c instead of the deltapoint, I also went with Dave’s metal works full length tube instead of freedom fighter. Dave’s metal works is a bit cheaper and finish matches Benellis almost exactly
Good stuff Colin. I just looked at this today for home defense. I'm new at shotgun modification (I'm usually a stock/rifle guy & handgun). Thx for the video.

thats because youre net income is below 6figs so you could never afford a benelli
@@powerjackson22 my ass makes half that and I bought one. $2300
@@powerjackson22 😂 That's the dumbest statement I've heard in awhile
Benelli M4 is great, but it's expensive. That's the thing. 1301 Tactical is just as good, for $1,000.00 less.
It’s all the same company. Beretta is just over laughing in the corner.
Yes argue. You’ll buy one or the other and beretta still wins.
LOVE THIS BRO....I HOOKED MINE UP SIMILAR. BENELLI M4...BEST SEMI 12G EVER!!
KUDOS BROTHER...SICK SET UP
You're in love with your benelli man, that baby breathes fire in a subtle way
Great video on an amazing weapon, hands down the best weapon on the streets while deployed. Carrying the M4 in an urban environment allowed you to take out insurgents where ever they hid. With the M4 you could skip shoot any where to clear ladder wells, down alleys around corners etc. You could breach entries ways and generally place terror into anyone on the receiving end with a hammered pair. Practice your tactical and combat reloads and and just keep pushing, thanks for the good memories,
Because of this video, the wife unit allowed me to pick up the collapsible stock. I'm loving it! Thank you, my brother!! ♥️😎
The Benelli M4 is a constant work in progress (AKA labor of love). Nice build dude!
I was going to go anti route until I came across the iwi tavor 12b. Glad I went with iwi. The perfect home defense shotgun.
If you want to keep looking into shotguns, check out the Genesis Arms gen 12. They make a mean semi auto, AR 15 like platform
Any dpms 308 lower, their upper in your state legal length and proprietary mag in capacity legal for your state and it's the best mag fed shotgun going. The full auto test guns with suppressor are 🔥
1st and only shotgun I have ever owned. Good call. 100 yd range with that optic running slugs.
Beautiful shotgun. Just as Beautiful as the 1301. However both are too pricey and harder to find, especially where I am. I actually got lucky finding a mossberg 930 spx. Upgraded a thing or 2 and added a couple of things and its great.
A used 930 JM pro tactical came into local shop for under 600 got my eye on it.
@Warren Harrison great Gun and pretty versatile parts wise
I have a 1301 and wish the new beretta a300 patrol was out when I was shopping. It would have saved me some money.
The 1301 is fairly priced. The Benelli is indeed overpriced.
Multicam Black would look sick on that.
Thanks, Colion for sharing, It's a beautiful tool every home should have.! Love your work Brother, keep up the good fight
Do you know the name of that extension
Hey, you mentioned the ghost loading. Marine corp arms manual called it carrier loading. I like to think of it like a 7+1+1
There's quite a few names for ghost loading.
Bought a two-round extension, and a sling.
Done.
But, that's just me.
Keep 'em coming Colion.
You're doing good.
To be fair, I think the 1301 tactical is probably a better buy, but the M4 is a damn work of art. It’s definitely the OG.
Was gonna say the same. In fact, I think I'd even go with the A3 Patrol over either!
The 1301 is defintely the "better" buy... but I just had to own the M4. I regret nothing.
Better price yeah, but my m4 has 25 yrs of military battle data to back it up. That's real world reliability you can hang your hat on.
Why not both
I would love to see you do a video on an older Ithaca 37 12gauge.
I really enjoy your content mate and I hope you take this feedback/criticism in stride, just my opinion and if you disagree with it then fair enough!
esstac side saddle is the best way to go. I set my M4 up with them and love it. Plus, even the 7 rd. can slide into existing AR-15 mag pouches.
This channel is just one big commercial.
Big baby
I’m on year 7 and up to 19. It’s definitely addictive but well worth it.
Spoiler alert. The quest never ends, accept it and be happy.
I have a neutered Benelli M4 in my collection also. It’s a great shotgun
since you said you like to wrap your thumb while shooting, you should look into the briley 3gun M-LOK handguard, looks really good and very clean but also allows for you to be able to wrap your thumb more without burning your thumb! I absolutely love mine
I don't blame you. That is a good-looking Maverick 88.
Tube is worth it for sure. Larger charging handle, a way to mount a light. Everything else is just personal preference.
This is Italian quality and excellence at its finest man
Beautiful weapon. I just got my Benelli M1 SBS LEO trade in....and I love it..
My dream shotgun.
Best shotgun. ! I've had mine for about 8 yrs . I love it.
We had them in the Marine Corps and I always wanted one. I recently got one and love it, definitely want to do some upgrades when the wallet allows it
Scheel's just opened a store not 10 minutes from my home in September, after my waiting for two years! Great place with friendly staff.
I'm not a shotgun fan for the most part, but I absolutely love the M4. Definitely on my "Must Buy" list
The M500 will always have a sweet spot in my heart
I like the Print Shoot Repeat style follow on the firearm!
Not really considering the competition today. I watched TFBs video on this, now I’m going to watch yours.
Just picked one up last weekend....traded my benelli Supersport for it. Have enough sporting clays guns and wanted a proven combat shotgun as that is my new interest. It is like Thor's Hammer and it will run. A fine piece of Italian craftsmanship like all other Benellis
Doesn't matter what others think. It's what the shooter likes. Personally I like what you've done
I was able to get the LE model 11715. Non-neutered. Love it!
i was just looking into getting a m4 after your first vid im so glad you just posted this
You’re nice and clear and not at all boring. Thanks for all the information
My arms too short i CHECKED TPL...MAY OPT FOR WHAT U DID GRATITUDES
Those guns are a thing of beauty, just keep mines stock with an extended mag tub. Too clean to add a lot of stuff to it.
I didn’t say anything before… but it’s about time! I need that handguard.
Dude, love that scalar works mount!
Get The Tarran Tactical shell lifter! That cutout on the stock lifters front, is a finger/ glove grabber… its an aggravating feature.
Never had a malfuntion with my Benelli M2. The only upgrades were my ghost ring sights, shortened stock and an extended magazine extension. Most accessories are not needed.
Damn, my comment from a year ago made this video! ETA: Nice upgrades to your M4. Beautiful shotgun!
Get a hot pocket or a sleeve for the over thumb barrel issue and tuck and pin it under the garud.
Should work perfectly
Sure fire ST tape switch with a Magpul ST MLOK mounting plate is very clean
Really nice set up. I’ve done the same thing only on a budget started with a mossburg 930 and did a lot of the same mods you did. Because the mossy is a tank I also did Q.D. points for a sling as well. If I had crazy $$$$ I’d love the M4 or a 1301. Lov your channel please keep doing what ya do you really inspired my build.
I'd definitely want a spare shell holder or two, a flashlight, 8 round mag tube, oversized charging handle, fixed stock, expanded loading port, EO tech on top.
You made me get the HellcatPro and now I’m getting this 🔥
I have the SBR version of the M4, took the longest time to get the tax stamp for it.
A longer barrel w mag tube extender should drop in on that no problem
Any Benelli is fine weapon!Love the rotating bolt!
I prefer the B&T hand guard. Looks great and covers the barrel. Got mine from B&T Switzerland. 👍🏼
Colion, surefire tape switch with a Magpul m-lok mount plate on the right side of gun so your fingers fall on them when you grip the handguard.
I was like "Damn that M4 probably hurt the pockets a little" then I seen the Scheels sponsorship so Nevermind. Lol but either way happy to see you thriving brother 💪
