I love the candid discussion about expectations entering the marathon! It's good analysis, and it's honest. I think the American record stands this week. Mantz has said he'd stay at the front with whoever is leading, and maybe take the lead himself if he feels the pace isn't honest, but he hasn't said that he would go out in American record pace. Young is a lot better at riding and then closing, which I think makes him a better marathoner than half marathoner, and he's known to be more conservative on these buildup races, because we all know the real goal is Boston. And Klecker, I'm sure is in great shape, but he's also coming off an injury. He's also first time at the distance. I think the American record stands.

Great podcast guys. Just a side note, Klecker ran 12.55 and 12.56 outdoors in 2023 (Diamond League races) are arguably more impressive performances than his 12.54 indoors at Boston.

I was about to comment a question about nutrition (for the HM) then you spoke about it 😂 I'm going for around 1:25 in March I normally take two gels with me and have one around 25-30mins then the next at 50-55mins if I feel like I need it. Would this be probably pretty standard or too early or leaving it too late? 🤔

I agree with whoever said that Clayton Young seemed to carry Conner Mantz to the finish in the USA marathon trials, so I agree that he can outlast and out tough Mantz. I'd like to seem him win, just because I think he deserved the win in the trials, but I've seen their training on both RUclips and Strava and Mantz always seems a little faster in training. Apparently, Brits Callum Hawkins and Patrick Dever are running too.
