IMO #17: My Running Journey & Football + Swim Background, Sponsorship Concerns, Workouts of the Week
Просмотров 737Месяц назад
In this episode of the Sweat Elite podcast, founder Matt Fox discusses the launch of a new RUclips channel dedicated solely to podcast content, separate from the main Sweat Elite channel. He also shares exciting news about triathlete Alex Yee competing in the London Marathon and analyzes public predictions for Yee's performance time. Matt answers listener questions about his running background ...
after the 13 ksteady, 3 min rest? and then 3x mile in 5 k pace with 3 min rest
Bicarbonate-you’re supposed to wait an hour to 90 minutes. I do the bicarb for my long runs and marathons. It works for me better at those types of runs than the middle distance runs. Idk if my body is just weird. Also, it seems to help me heal better. But I also do your post-race stack after hard runs and marathons.
I tend to use KetoneIQ after long and hard session and also after racing (marathon/ultra) I feel it aids recovery in a substantial way. Expensive, but great stuff.
Matt whats your opinion in Creatine ? Probably helps with recovery when your in deep training block right ? But how much weight you will gain if you strictly follow the same diet as you do ? For e.g. you are 70kg stable without it and when you take 5g everyday (with the same kcals , food , etc) you will gain 1kg more ?
1-1.5kg max
So bi carb does less than Ketone -IQ…
Based on my personal feel - yes. And Maurten bicarb is much more expensive and cops no heat for some reason (Ketone-IQ cops a lot of heat)
@@sweatelitepodcastKetone IQ definitely gives me a mental clarity/boost. Very helpful after 20 miles in a marathon to stay locked in mentally. Cant say its done much for training that I've noticed. Ketone Shot plus maurten caf 100 is a fantastic combo!
Try ketone immediately after a hard workout mixed with carbs, protein and creatine... probably the best use case IMO
I have done a ton of research & used sodium bicarbonate a lot. To put it in simple terms, if you not using sodium bicarbonate you'll regret it, just like those who didn't use coffee ☕ in their professional career. Sodium bicarbonate is great for recovery, super great. In my experience & research is that most packaged supplements for endurance do contain sodium bicarbonate. In my experience with other runners, they have also ran PBs & are able to train a lot, and won races. There's a reason why sodium bicarbonate is the top 5 supplements used by Olympics Athletics & sci-fi proven. Yes, it's good for all distances 😅
Interesting. I personally know a lot of people very successful in their career who don’t drink coffee or consume caffeine though, sorry to point a hole in your analogy but otherwise I feel you could be onto something
I’m 16 just a running nerd and crazy in love with it taken it very seriously since 13. Love listening to your podcasts on my easy runs. Keep it up ❤good luck Matt with your marathon experimentation personally I predict you will get down to 2.14/2.15 in the end
Steve Magness is one angry fooker 🤣I'm old and get injured a lot, just fkn run! I always take that away as Steve's point. I love this pod. Great stuff.
I used to train and run alot but now I run around 20miles a week and what I’ve found is my easy pace and my race pace is within about 30 secs a km over a 5km And when only running 20mile a week I think you get very little bang for your buck if you just zone 2 it all the time. Training for different levels of athlete (time constraints, injury susceptibility etc) is very different for different levels of athlete. Basically- get a coach - don’t take snake oil advice from influencers
Big fan of FOD. Genuine guy, it seems.
Great stuff!! Happy to see Luke is slowing down, lol
I want to start running by feel. Thanks for the awesome content.
Easily best running podcast lately 🫡🫡
Price point of Evo 1s are absurd as the price point of Soar kit
I personally disagree. Because SOAR kit is higher quality, more durable than brands half its cost. This same principle does not apply to Evo 1 IMO. ~$200 can get you the same quality. I’ve tried most apparel brands and SOAR certainly stands out as superior than most (at least the ones cheaper…)
@@sweatelitepodcast Their prices have skyrocketed in the last 2 years compared to what they used to charge; they have become very exclusive. Even the sale stuff is at eye watering prices. Agree with the quality.
@@r_unner_G I think their prices have more or less remained the same. They've added some more expensive products though.
Huge FOD Runner fan here 😊😊
Great interview! I think lifetime miles make a big diff. I started running Jan of 2024 (never ran prior) and was injured all but a few weeks all year. Body just wasn’t ready for it. Could only do 1.3k total miles but it was a struggle.
Loving this format Matt - no fucking around with ‘the story’ etc, straight in for some proper insights. Andy feels like one of the RUclipsrs who isn’t out to do anything other than document himself and if that helps others great. Enjoy listening to him. Interesting to hear how the medium steady long run has helped him.
@@stevenmcfarlane6010 thanks mate 👊
Andy is such a genuine guy. I love his content
@@jameschaves5723 thanks buddy
The first man with a platform I've seen speaking the truth about Nick Bare. Respect. He saw a gap in the market, with so many guys worried about losing muscle with endurance training. But with testosterone making muscle retention, effort, and recovery easier, it's best for such runners to be real with their followers.
So good! 🤌Love hearing all the insights and such good questions 🙌 I will say, although I know it can be a touchy subject. Since Nov I have lost approx 9kg going from 88kg to 78-79kg and have noticed a huge drop in perceived effort at paces that used to be challenging. This and the addition of short all out hill sprints has been a game changer for me and ran a 5k PB of 17:52 (26sec pb) and felt like i have more to give. I know noone asked just thought I would share 😂
"short all out hill sprints" - agreed, massive one for achilles strength and functionality too. Great to see more long distance runners doing this.
@threatened2024 great bang for your buck 🤌
Love FOD runner!!!!
Thanks for listening!
I find altitude and the dry air affects me quite a bit. Going from sea level in Washington state to mile high Boulder, I usually experience mild cold/flu-like symptoms for the first several days. My easy pace increases by a solid 30-45 seconds or more, and higher intensity effort becomes almost impossible. To me, it’s VERY reminiscent of past experience having low ferritin- which, I think, physiologically has a similar effect regarding one’s ability to transport oxygen through the blood
You’re not helping me sell the camp here Matt! I feel like most people have no issue at 1600m though
@ sorry Matt! Admittedly, I might be especially sensitive to it. You would certainly have a better sense of how it might affect faster folks, so take one average dude’s experience with a grain of salt
Breath of fresh air!!
The other issue with promo codes is the recent scandal with the Honey browser extension. They were replacing the referring website/code with their own even if they didn't find a better discount.
My coros is terrible at predicting. I ran 2 46 when it predicted 3 12
I second Tony's remarks regarding Palestine. Your willingness to speak out about Israel's genocide in Gaza is commendable. Sadly, it seems almost non-existent in the RUclips/Instagram running world from what I have seen over the last 15 months. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
See you soon ☀️☀️☀️

As a 50yr+ guy, I've switched to a 2+1. With 3+1 I found I was just ramping too much for 3 weeks in a row. The down week is mostly just dropping the double days, and making the workouts more race specific. My last 3 week build was 140, 144, 110kms as part of my Boston block. So when I comeback after that downscale week I'm ready to ramp up again. Love the back and forth between you and Luke.
Saw you guys getting after it on Thursday morning in Cane Island... didnt want to be the douche to stop you guys mid training run for a selfie haha
Would have been good to have seen you Tasty Brains!
Too much fuck and shit in this episode, find a better way to express yourself.
Thank you for your opinion. You're welcome to switch off if it's an issue..
Love this podcast. So much respect for both. 🫡. Good luck with Osaka. Luke would love Japan. Hope to see Matt in Manchester 🤞🏽
Regarding the “down week”. As a 54 y/o I certainly incorporate a down week. I believe it has kept me healthy and able to continuously flirt with 3:00 low. It does however affect my OCD and the Strava Graph 😂
😂
MANTZ is a beast --sounds soft but he is a BEAST
Luke will stop calling him soft now
Top quality. Thanks. What a champion.
Great video. Wish it was longer.
Good conversation to listen to before bed. I’m doing the Houston Marathon tomorrow! It’s going to be fun!
Great interview….Andy is on fire
I agree with whoever said that Clayton Young seemed to carry Conner Mantz to the finish in the USA marathon trials, so I agree that he can outlast and out tough Mantz. I'd like to seem him win, just because I think he deserved the win in the trials, but I've seen their training on both RUclips and Strava and Mantz always seems a little faster in training. Apparently, Brits Callum Hawkins and Patrick Dever are running too.
Thank you! Great video!!
Top notch 🤌 thank you
Keep it coming
The workouts aren't in the description 😅
did my best 😅 (they're in podcast players).. hope you enjoyed the pod
@@sweatelitepodcast thank you! these IMOs are my fav. I noticed they workouts were written out on screen too so that's perfect
6 50/mile is closer to 4 16/k basically sub 3 marathon pace
First time to find you guys. Loved it. Smart and relevant. Strong podcast for runners!
Since you parted ways with Stryd I guess you could ve used the pod to get a more accurate measurement for on the treadmill😅
Great podcast guys. Just a side note, Klecker ran 12.55 and 12.56 outdoors in 2023 (Diamond League races) are arguably more impressive performances than his 12.54 indoors at Boston.
Sub 5 on the bike is definitely doable with a decent TT bike, good bike fit and a flat course. 2:35 marathon is extremely ambitious. The best guys in the world have a hard time running under 2:40
Double episode day 😍
HEB has the g1m sport mix I believe if you have that in Houston
