I was stumped cus it wasn’t initializing but I had just forgotten to make a file on the usb drive. You’re a life saver 🙏

Same with my ps4 and when I attempted to do the USB download from the Playstation website, I saw it was over 400 and something GB and I do not have a USB drive with that much space. Shouldn't even have to deal with this.

The 12:24 is as far as I get, it never gets to the screen where it’s actually updating, it says, “PS4 will restart and update” and we’re back to the loop

ive tried everything , i had to wipe out all my data on monday and then this same problem comes up again today, ive tried all of your advices and the only way is to reinstall it again wiping all the data again, what do i do?

this tutorial did not work i did everything and at after everything it finished the download at the end it turned off then right back to the original download that kept saying can not download

By the way if nothing works the only solution I’ve found was to replace the hard drive. I bought a 1 terabyte SATA solid state drive and now my ps4 works great! It’s actually faster than before.

Yeah this sucks. Sony used my ps4 as a beta tester for this awful update back in early March and that ended up with me taking the ps4 to a repair shop to clear the whole system and reinstall it. Ridiculous!! That cost 40$ so when they finally launched this update in April it once again killed the ps4. I said fuck it and hooked the xbox 360 back up. Done with sony 👎👎
I have done every single option available on the Safe Mode feature and still my playstation repeatedly crashes when on applications and today has gone back to being stuck in the safe mode loop. I tried to download 7.50 through the internet and through a memory stick and both times it installed to 100%, restarted and then went back into safe mode. This is the original ps4 from the first day it came out, is the hard drive just fried? Do I need a new ps4/hard drive???
Hi JoeyXII, if you have tried everything and its still not working, then your hard drive has probably gone bad. JoeyXII Yeah I bought a new HDD Sata 2 500GB hardrive off of Ebay as any hardrive can be used aslong as it is the same as the normal hardrive. I would suggest buying a new hardrive and seeing if that works because none of the Safe Mode features aren’t working and so is my usb nothing’s working

Every time I try this I get an error code (CE-34788-0) and it says the update file cannot be used. I've tried doing this on multiple usb, reformating it multiple times, and nothing. I've tried everything the Playstation support bot suggests and still nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated, because i've tried everything.

My friend has the same problem. I tried many ways to reinstall the PS4 for him, but without succes. He has only one option what is usable in the safe mode (number 7 reinstall). First it's reading the usb and starts with initializing and after that it starts with preparing for the update/reinstall. Ps4 shuts down and restarting, 'can't start the ps' is the only thing that is visible on TV.
I think his hard disk died, because he told me that his ps4 didn't react and he unplugged his ps4 when it was on (he's using it for more then 5 years already). We're going to buy a new HD for him an try it all over again.

I followed the exact same steps that are in the video. When I finished and plugged the usb in the ps4, I turned on the ps4 by holding till I hear the second beep and it went into safe mode. But the problem is when I choose update from usb storage device, first it seem like working and it says "copying update file" and when it finish i press update and it starts installing update file normally. When the installation finish, the ps4 restarts but it comes back to the same problem :" cannot start the ps4...". So how should I fix this? Should I initialize the ps4? I hope someone can help

Did you switch the hard drive? The ps4 is reaching 10 years and those HDDs usually only last 3-4 years before they start failing.

I sorted that by holding the on button for 7 seconds to manually stsrt safe mode. Then it let me update. But then that doesnt work... I probably need to wipe or buy a new hard drive

You sir are a god send. Only USB in the house wasn't in the proper format so thanks so much for all that. It also just kept doing the "Cannot start PS4" loop without reading the USB so another big thank you for showing how to boot it up in Safe Mode to bypass all that shit.
I still keep getting software not found from my usb drive I followed the folder instructions from Sony but on my usb drive i formatted it to MSDOs which also says (FAT 32)

You have to choose system complete software file which is 1.1 gb. BUT, you will lose or all of your data on your ps4. The good news is your ps4 will back work fine.
Best thing to do it factory reset your playstation like I did and log back into your account and back up all of your data

UPDATE: It did not work. It acted like it was working until it was time for the system to restart and start the update, but it just went back into the same safe mode loop.

You need to turn off the ps4 completely. When it is off, press and hold the button until you hear 2 beeps. That should take you to the options.
