Cannot Start the PS4 - Safe Mode Loop - How to Fix (2022)

- In this video, I show how to fix the error "cannot start the ps4". Hold down the power button while the ps4 is off, until you hear 2 beeps. This will bring you to safe mode. Try one of the options in order to fix this. Update system software from internet, restore default settings, rebuild database, initialize ps4. The only one that will delete the data is the initialize PS4 option. Hope this helps! Leave a comment if you need any help.

@Zen2K4R the top just little more then smacked I reset it ans went back to normal was downloading apex put in rest mode when I turned back on back to safe thing and everything I do won’t fix
@Zen2K4R I was in this loop for hours, and all I did was smack it a couple of times on the top (not too hard), rebuilt my database and it worked.
Im only assuming this fixed it I cant promise anything, But before hitting it I can say it wouldnt let me rebuild my database, update it or anything 🤷🏾♂️

I wish I had tried this method before I resorted to the choice of no return. I've been trying to get it past the "cannot start" screen. I tired using lan and USB to update, but it would not start after the update. After about 2 months of no progress, I reformatted(earlier today). No PSN cloud backup(it was off).
I started from scratch, then I found your video.

Isnt there soppoused to be like a cloud? Like you format id and the cloud on psn should get all ur progress
@@DRAGONSLAYER-em3ge yes there is, however, I had not restored in the longest because I don't have it save automatically for security reasons. Not saying it's not safe, but my account was hacked twice in 12 years so I didn't want that constant open communication. On the bright side, everything is running smooth and I slowly grind when I get the chance. Lesson learned though.
@@Mr.Deko86 fuck so if i lose my 5 years minecraft world can i get it back? Like its saved on the cloud, i can get it (i think) but only for psplus members, i have ps plus, so this is my question: if i inizialize it, can i get the stuff?
@@DRAGONSLAYER-em3ge yes, you can get it back. Your last save goes up in the cloud if you have it save to it. Just remember to check once every other day or at the end of gameplay. You'll be fine. I did none of the above, hence the disaster

This was the first time I ever had this happen, and it really sucked having to wipe my whole system but it seems to have worked. Thank God for cloud save and playstation plus else I would have to start from scratch.

The hard drive is the problem. Try pulling it out, if it’s dirty clean it up, plug it back in initialize the ps4 and see if that helps. I have the original ps4 and it worked for me idk how long before it does it again but it should get you going for a little while.
So if we have issues doing a factory reset (initializing the PS4) pull the HD and plug it back in?
Tried everything, safe mode loop for days. Reinstalled system OS and 11.50 update. Initialized PS4 and Restored settings, nothing working.

That initialize only does half the job take it out of safe mode go through your settings and find full initialization same place where initialize is, my hard drive is corrupted wasnt even able to download games but after i did that it worked, but in my case i have to get a new hardrive mine is more than just corrupted ig?

Hello, I need help !! To me, the Playstation 4 is the same in Safe Mode and when it says to connect dualshock 4 with a usb cable, I press the ps button but the joystick flashes once and turns off and is still safe mode

Yank the HDD and get a sata controller/adapter with a usb 3.0 type b female front then get the corresponding cable which will be a usb3.0 type a to type b male on both ends. Hook it up to a pc and bring up your disk management application and check the health of the ps4 HDD. Or download/use the crystaldiskmark/info application to see more stats and info on ur ps4 HDD if ya want to see more in depth look at your PS4s HDD. If your HDD is still healthy download the ps4 system software patch directly to it, or if its possible for the HDD to be repaired using the windows repair function located i think under the HDDs properties tab. You may also most likely have to completely re-partition/reformat the HDD which is done using the Disk Management application i mentioned at the start. In fact you may have to do that step first when connecting the HDD to ur PC/laptop if it has shit still on it. In fact itll be required b4 you begin this entire process, or b4 you can even check the health/"repair" the HDD if possible/necessary using windows. But after all of that if the drive is still healthy and can be partitioned/reformatted, then the follow the actual PlayStation steps on downlaoding the system software and creating the folders and all that. Then disconmect cables, plug your HDD back into your PS4s internal SATA controller/adapter and you should be golden. I had to do this myself. It all sounds confusing as shit and hard to do, bt its not. Sorry i didnt list the steps in "exact" order but really it can be a different process for each person. Same steps but the order may be a lil different for you as it was for me. I kinda winged it tbh, but was aware of what i was doing and what i knew could be done, if everything lined up correctly prior to doing all this. Basically just removed the PS4 drive and hardwired to the pc to load the software directly onto it once i realized my HDD was perfectly fine. Just some middle steps in between

I tried everything except initialize it still shows the problem. I can start the PS4 but I am still scared if the PS4 will break down or something as I have already got it fixed one time
I tired all of the options but it still takes me back to the loop all over again, That's 2 updates now that this had happened and I don't wanna spend money on a last gen because it isn't worth it, I might just get a PC if I could be honest, Sony really is letting me down.

My little brother and I connected his controller to my console while i was in a game (LBP 3), and we played for a few hours. then without turning anything off, he unplugged it and tried to use his console. I had to turn mine off, but his controller kept turning it on so i unplugged it while it was on. We reconnected his controller to his console, and when i turned mine back on, it did the storage system check, and gets to about 70% before saying "Cannot turn on PS4, Plug USB in to Dual shock wireless controller" or whatever. I do, and it now says to "Connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 9.60 or later."
I just hit "OK", then it says there's no USB connected. I need help

Mine doesn't show any options besides insert 9.6 version or higher
Updating the system software via INTERNET worked wonders for me when nothing else would. I had no USB no time to go get one. Try via the internet guys!

What about, other than 3 individual beeps. It beeps 3 times really quickly?

Tried using all the options on safe mode. Installing patch and factory reset works for like a day, then the console will freeze, and the error message will appear, causing the error loopto hapoen all over again. So either I have to get a new hard drive or a new ps4, which wont happen anytime soon because even used ps4's are going for $400 still. I don't feel like spending that much for a used last gen console. Really hoping it's just the hard drive.

It is the hard drive I just fixed mines you can just switch too an ssd instead of an hdd they have the ssd at Walmart just screw in like normal hdd
$400? what, I sell these consoles all the time on ebay. ps4 pro = ~$300, ps4 slim = $200-250, ps4 original = $170-200
but then again, I'm not really incorporating stuff like multiple controllers or the other accessories.

Mine beeps three times very quickly and when i keep holding it just turn off and i turn it back on this problem is still popping up

Same issue here however my ps4 doesn’t give me that list of menu! It immediately transfers me to the PS4 update restore through USB page right after I connect my ps4 remote! I downloaded the PS4 update file on a flash drive and I had no luck
Did you hold the button after the first beep until you heard the second beep?
that's because you didn't start it in safe mode. you started the ps4 regularly. Turn it off wait a minute then turn it back on, but hold the power button until you hear it beep twice. Then it will show you the menu. Hope this helped.
@@tazdevil726 yes but ours is still only locked onto #7. Im facing the exact same issue. If I restart normally it wants updates 10.0 or later and if I start in safe mode option 7 is the only available choice.

I tried all safe mode options to reinstall or initialization all steps and keeps giving me error messages ot won't do anything. But other times I turn it on it goes to regularly power on and goes to home screen just to freeze up and wo t let. E use x function sometimes it dies let ne use x but not always. I'll be calling Playstation support.
I did that but connect DualShock 4 using the usb cable still comes up.
my ps4 is stuck in safe mode on the intitalize ps4 reinstal and despite controller being connected i cannot manouver around, its stuck on the initialize ps4 reinstall. if i press it it goes to find usb but gives me error despite USB plugged in with fat32 formatted/UPDATE folder containing the pup update ps4 software... not sure what to do anymore
If you haven't tried this already, only the D-pad will work and allow you to move around in Safe Mode, not the analog sticks. Also, maybe try using a different controller and see if that helps. If either of those allow you to start moving around then try doing Options 1-5 in Safe Mode first. Doing those Options shouldn't delete the data off of your PS4. However, Options 6 and 7 "Initialize PS4" will delete everything off of your PS4, so only do that as a last resort after trying everything else first. Also, the method you've been trying with the USB will delete everything off of your PS4 as well, but since it gave you an error message, it should be fine.

Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 Ussing the USB cable and then press the PS button

This problem got me so pissed bc i just got my account back from it getting reported and i had to wait 7 days then after i got it back i play the new game multiversus then i accidently un plug the ps4 bc my hdmi cord has a shortage in it then the safe mode poped up and said cannot start ps4 connect usb to controller. You have to hold the power button on the ps4 when its turned OFF until you hear the 2nd „beep“ then you can release the button

No it doesn’t delete everything it just deletes your saved data on the ps4 but it’s still saved in game
