Absolutely hypnotic music from a period in time that is loved by myself
Enjoyed 100 years live on their 95 Aussie tour, while the radio friendly crowd waited for Friday I’m in love.
I saw them around the same time in the US. The set list, and show was incredible. No opening act,all Cure
The peel sessions always had great sound no matter what band played on it.
truism
Most of the time better
Touring Europe in October 2022 with a new album and 2023 US tour. Thank you God!
in Peel we trust
Played this to death over the years i originally recorded it off the Peel show way back in 1981 i had a decent hi=fi back then.... Since found it here , i put my Tape recording on to minni disc and now i have it as Mp3 file on my walkman / phone , love these 3 tracks
The Cure’s greatest album, dense and singular, unlike anything that came before yet still rooted in the time and place of its creation.
Imagine never having heard this, then going to record the song, and this is what you hear. I'd be blown away.
I like the way that so many comments are by people from countries that English is not their natural 1st language...says a lot about how far this music went, and how far it continues to go...
hopfully Brexit will stop them from commenting ;-)
Crissement d'accord avec ça
This album has a nightmare feeling. It's wonderful.
theyre lways haunting - that's what makes them so weirdly wonderful
saw them in brussel ,pornography was out for a couple of months,i saw many bands, but this one is in my top3,this album was how we felt ,how the world looked at us,robert smith &the cure fantastic band, and pornography is still fantastic almost 40yrs later,i ,m glad i was there!
40 years ago today!
Ive really been listening to the earliest stuff the last few years. What a credit to Robert. He xouod have chose one if the many genres he explored and been hugely successful at it but he refused to. Sometimes intentionally and often to be contrarianm. He effortlessly moves between styles and genres. And you hear all the seeds being planted for the future in this early stuff. His masterfulness in the more jangly pop stuff and dark melodic compositions. I truly believe that they are the most influential band of the 80s. They are my generations Beatles and he should be considered as one of the finest writer, composer and recording artists ever. Long live the Cure!
These versions are off the charts thank you!
I am listening this A Hundred Years...and still enjoy so very much !!!
this version is, to me anyway, better than the lp...which got me back into the Cure earliest punk stabs through Head on the Door. a lot of gear shifting in a few years. punk, post punk, dark gothy, psychedelic, synthpop...whatever Head on the Door is. great hypnotic guitar work on one hundred years....
oooh that bass
Love your page so much! Such an excellent source of quality Peel Sessions. Thank you!
he was one of ours peel. and to think his mantra has been took over by jo wiley
Nice onex
the first "industrial" music , "one hundred years" triggered me inside , deep inside . . . still does
@@jason-miller I grew up in Perth , the most isolated state capital in the world and have never been lucky enough to hear of Throbing Gristle , thanks I really enjoyed the information and will look back a little more , thanks again
Thank you so much for posting these sessions.

L y r i c s:
Sharp and open
Leave me alone
And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
Waiting
In the cold light
A noise
A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in the mirror for the first time in a year
A hundred other words blind me with your purity
Like an old painted doll in the throes of dance
I think about tomorrow
Please let me sleep
As I slip down the window
Freshly squashed fly
You mean nothing
You mean nothing
I can lose myself in Chinese art and American girls
All the time
Lose me in the dark
Please do it right
Run into the night
I will lose myself tomorrow
Crimson pain
My heart explodes
My memory in a fire
And someone will listen
At least for a short while...…
Thanks Vibraconda for your amazing channel & efforts. Brilliant bringing us these amazing sessions by so many different bands.
and John Peel was a genius
If you compare John Peel to Boris Johnson , i ,m thinking what,s happening with England,a country i love&admire for the music&history&football&the amazing people&the reggaemusic shops around london&fashion etc My heart explodes
My memory in a fire
And someone will listen
At least for a short while...…
so good, thanks for another excellent upload :)
this is for sure my most listened to vid on youtube
Something about that third “you mean nothing “ at 2:30 during the figurehead really gives it an extra sense of nihilism... he should’ve kept it on the album version
Esto es lo mejor que me pasó en esta Cuarentena
THE CURE have been there for me & listen!
This music reflects a moment of personal crisis by Robert Smith e when artist is sad the product begins gold
erm………….. hes famous for being sad and depressed.
@@pudboy123456 All the Robert Smith interviews I listened to, don't get the feeling he is sad or depressed.
I think his voice was different in 81.. maybe more'dark,'.
The guitar playing on 100 years is hypnotic and painfully great.
Smith, like any other human, had his ups and downs. Bad times are creative if you have the will to pick up a guitar and pen and lay it out.
Its expression and a good way to get the best out of your personal hell
@@jasonkingshott2971 Humour is the politeness of despair.
thks very much! this is the major pós-punk band ever
From my best album of them , the top one album .
Sehr gut!!!!
AWESOME
Smith was on to something here. But he blew it on the album. This is probably the greatest peel session of them all.
Excelente
Oi Paulo tudo bem estou passando aqui para te convidar para conhecer o meu canal de rock no RUclips que falo sobre discos de vinil cds e dvds de rock e filmes também passa lá
The One Hundred Years we see here reminds me a lot of song songs off New Order's Movement. That drum machine is very recognizable.
Same machine Boss Dr. 55
🖤
Played back at x 1,5 sounds like spellbound
Robert and Siouxsie always had close ties. Love them both.
100 years with drum machine is a blaster>>
Listening to this in Crawley. ;)
I spent some time there, in Langley Green ❤️
Siamese Twins exceptionnelle version
Liked and sub. Thanks for the music
The guitar in Siamese Twins is haunting. Ever so slightly out of tune. Love this hypnotic song. I CHOSE AN ETERNITY OF THIS...........IS IT ALWAYS LIKE THIS ?
Unfortunately, yes it is...and that's The Cure, '81 / '82....
Smith downtunes the top E string.
Can’t believe they been around so long
Muito bom the cure
The absolute final word. The culmination of, not just a type of music, but a period of time. A genuine existential achievement,a fully realised work of expressionist art.
Lovely session! Also I don’t know if anyone else see’s the comparison but the synth in “One Hundred Years” here sounds a bit like the intro to “Everything’s Gone Green” by New Order :)
Yeah a little.
It's an early drum machine - quite possibly a Linn LM-1 or Roland TR-808. While they are comparable, I believe New Order used an Oberheim DMX on first EP's and Movement album (certainly the case on Blue Monday).
Similar kit
@@mrjohnnytoobadit’s a Boss DR55
they played the songs before they went to studio in JAN82, thats why some lyrics are out of order
Wow, I didn't remember how good & different from the LP was this "One Hundred Years" take here...I think I prefer it to the album's version now...
Siamese twins. The words. The words
Yeah, for me as poignant as many Joy Division songs...This album was a shock, influenced by both Joy Division (such as "Atrocity Exhibition" song/theme/lyrics) & P.I.L. 's "Flowers of Romance" album in my opinion...
@@GregsWhiskyGuide I read he wanted to write a joy division song and that’s what became Siamese twins
@@malcolmlee2561 Wow, thanks for the info...I take he had songs like 'New Dawn Fades" maybe in mind...Cheers !
lol classic 80s
I was 14, going on 15 when this session was on the Peel show. I still have a mangled cassette of Peel sessions...ah memories. 1980 was the first year I was into The Cure.
Been a fan ever since, but would definitely say that they had a 'grey period' and went too poptastic....I prefer the earlier dirges.
I was a late adopter, weaned on San Francisco punk... thought the Cure was so much MTV corporate schlock as tedious as The Smiths... love em...
Still fucking good. "Just a piece of new meat in a clean room".
Goth*
It's not goth or punk. Punk period was finished and goth wasn't exist yet. It's "post punk" for the ealies years of Cure. Ad in 1981i was just like u 15. 80's was great years for music.
Siamese twins❤❤❤❤
Why isn't there an LP of this out there?
there is
Muito bom Vibracobra.👏
40 years really
FigureHead version here is kind creepy & for sure much better than version in studio, I love Bass guitar here!
classic line... 'I can lose myself in Chinese Art and American Girls...'....

I think Pornography is their best.
i agree
It's a perfect album to represent non suicidal depression and how deep it can go.
Definitely a contender, I’ll give you that! I adore pornography too
You said it !
@@AndrewInCanada99 "I adore pornography" haha
Les années 80 c'était déjà no future avec le mouvement punk puis le désenchantement mélancolique froid et triste avec la new wave et cold wave.Puis se poursuivit le développement erratique de notre société.

How come they didn't play this on the radio then instead of mostly rubbish they did play?
Too dark & new for mainstream....

Right session, wrong speed...
what do you mean?
P Heresy A regular quote from John Peel when he played the records at the wrong speed.
