Happened to land on your video, it’s the most comprehensive tutorial I’ve seen you, thank you!
This is probably the best tutorial I've seen online on this topic
I watched this vid twice, then plank the boat like a pro.
EXCELLENT vid👍🏻
Your explanations are very clear and easy to understand. I have the Enterprise and the directions were as clear as mud as far as planking. I did the Swift 10 years ago, but that hull was simple to do compared to the Enterprise. Thank you.
I cannot abide rude people thumbing you down and their base comments which exemplifies total ignorance.
If the cap fits...shame on you!
Your video was excellent and very informative.
Anybody with reasonable intelligence will benefit from it but you cannot educate " PORK "
Wonderful work.
The planking you worked was superb.
Loved your Aussie accent.
You know your stuff mate and a big thank you from one who genuinely wants to learn.
Pete ( I am not ashamed to be named )
Thank you mate.
hey mate, so from a Brit to a Aussie, I have to say a great thank you for a great video. I have bought several books and watched hours of videos, but your video is by far the best, you mention things others do not, I have tried a bunch of time to plank my "Billings Boats Endeavour" to no avail, but now for the fist time I "get it" I am on your website now ordering some of your videos, thanks again mate, a awesome video
I am about to begin my first wooden model ship. I have been watching a great many videos to learn as much as I can before I begin. I have especially been studying planking of the hull because it looks so tricky.
I'm not satisfied with the planking I see in many of the videos I have watched. And most videos don't go into detail about how to get consistently excellent results.
This video is the first one I've found that gives a full, clear, detailed explanation of how to get excellent results.
Thank you so much! This is exactly the information I was looking for!
I like the 12 minutes of black screen at the end of the video. I use it as reflection time lol😂👍
I'm only 21 now but i look forward to my middle age crisis so i can spend thousands of hours on this stuff
Excellent video and great tutorial. As a beginner I will have to look at it a few more times. Thank you for this great instructions.
Bravo.. you got skill and patience,,, I’m thinking a solid block and veneer after this 🤯
Great tuturial very precise thank you👍👍👍👍
Very detailed explanation. Thanks for the good tutorial!
wow what an eye opener, thanks
these r beautiful like first photo , after fiberglassing
Very well explained. I'll be trying it soon, thank you.
Fantastic tutorial video thank you for sharing.
excellent video very helpful for a beginner, thank you.
Awesome tutorial.
Thank you. Very informative and enjoyable. Can't wait to try it myself. I am a newbie at this.
Great video. A very good and in-depth tutorial. Thanks for making it.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover boat plan try Joolaim Rudder Replication (search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got excellent results with it.
Awesome tutorial!!! Thank you!
Thanks for talking me out of doing a ship model....
You don't need to make it that complex, I've made 2 cardboard ships without any frame or weird shapes and I am 13, so you can always make simpler ones!
@@scurly0792 So I am 53 and I know if things get hard you quit........LOL JK I have limited hobby time and this looks less fun and more work.
@@charlesl21 oh ok!
Sooooo cool I get it and I don’t but I can still build my own #lovethevid
easy to understand because you are not competing with dumb music
I strongly recommend that you do NOT use the crimp style plank benders. They cause damage which can be seen on the build if they're not covered by a second planking or filler. None of the proprietary benders are any use. They're a poor excuse for separating you from your hard earned. You should plank as though it is going to be a single layer. Do it right and you'll progress as a builder. Soaking or steam and setting on a jig, like a real build. Either way, to avoid buckling the plank must also be bent laterally (on a flat plane). none of the modeling tools will do that. Again it's back to the real shipyard, follow their methods and you won't go far wrong. If you've already bought such a plank bender join me in a visit to the manufacturer!!
I agree with you Dugan. For an excellent series on how it is done in real life, look up Louis Sauzedde's channel called Tips from a Shipwright. I learned so much on every aspect of wood and how it relates to boats. Louis is also such a humble, easy-to-watch person. Pure relaxation and education at the same time.
Thank you
Thank you!!!
I dont want to buy a kit i want to make it from scratch. Any books dvds out there?
Where can you get planks? I got a model, when I was younger and didn´t finish. Now I wan´t to finish it but I might be missing some planks
sweet
Was the Real ship built in this manor ? Have you ever built a Violin 🎻
Awesome video but what brand are your plank benders.
SWEET
Thanks for the video. What brand of plank bender are you using?
zommes a
I have some questions
how doable is this with out a kit but if I can kind the dimensions of the frame online ?
Second question how do you bend the planks well ?
third question these planks can I just buy heaps on there own ?
we build steel ships also
can i get the this ship plans ?
I have a question. I'm looking to build a wooden ship model, but am interested in the type that is minus the rigging and masts, and more or less displays the decking and what not. Is there a name for these types of models, or is it just a regular model that's been modified? Any input would help.
Toll ship model sales
Sorry but my math is really bad, you explained it well, but I don't get how the math works in this, how do you work out how much each under individual plank should be at each end of the ship? I am having a hard time working it out. I worked it out to like 1.5 but 1.5 of 5mm in a distance of such and such, I mean, can you better explain it for me. Any one, please. I am in the middle of planking atm, and I am doing ok, but I would love to do it by the book.
If your biggest gap is 45MM and you are using 5mm planks, you will need 9 full wide planks at that part of the ship. If the next smaller measurement is 41mm, divide 41mm by 9 and that is the width of the planks at that part of the hull. If the next measurement is 35mm, (just making up numbers), you take 35MM and divide by 9. So, think of it this way. I am walking through a big doorway with my friends. We all enter at the same time. The doorway is 100" wide and I have six friends. Each friend will have to be 100" divided by six in order for us to fit through the doorway. At the end of the room is a bit smaller door, 80" wide. I still want to enter the doorway with my friends at my sides but now, each person will have to be 80" divided by six. Yes, we all have to lose some weight. In other words, take the longest measurement you have and divide it by the width of the planks you are using. Then, for each cross section piece, measure and divide by the same number of planks as the biggest. At that cross piece, each plank will have to decrease in size to whatever the space is divided by your ideal number of planks.
thanks mate
And I’m lost at 6:15 I must be not cut out for this
I started my adventure with wood thanks to plans from the Stodoys.
Can you sent the measurements in written
this is so detailes but I cant visualise alot of it >_
where can ibuy the wood
Good modal but ship patterns how build it
la construction est très intéressante mais la video est trop longue, trop d'attente.
good content for the new guys out there, but the audio is horrible to listen to! to close to the mic so can har way more then what you say, and a horrible background noice.... sound like a speaker or something alike.
Are there anyone
...who have built the Billing Boat 502, Vanadis Skoner?
Sea the photograph
Ok at 4:43 you lost me. This is hard to understand
egg setera?
Jesus, Iv just started a Chinese Junk that my late father bought to do.
It doesn't have great plans or instructions. And seems to have informational gaps in the detail.
Iv just got to the planking stage & after watching this, I don't think Iv got it in me.
Anyway, just venting. I'll give it a crack, I don't give in easily. 👍🏼🤔
My god dude is this an ASMR?
