I wonder how many more videos they can milk out of this build. Granted, it has been a complete transformation, but this build is taking almost as long as my 500 whp Civic build. There isn't a single bolt on that car that I haven't turned. Great work guys!
Been following your guys’ build since the beginning I have recently have bought a 77 Liftback. Your videos are extremely informative. Love your content and can not wait to put a 3SGE Beams in my RA29.
Concerning the issue with the seat/seats being to high what did was lowered the floor pans in the area where the seats bolt to the floor with the front facing on an incline in order to allow the air to pass by easily, having already purchased the seats on a very low budget we sort of did what was Necessary.
When did you balance them - you can get quite close with feeler guage comparisons, but I used a Syncro-meter type airflow tool and it did make a noticable difference to idle smoothness.
Did you try again with the car on it's wheels and on the ground ? Maybe when the car is on the lift with the suspension extended something changes and hiding the noise. But if it was something else and it was fixed while doing other stuff it's a good news. About the sealant, maybe Pete saw that on old Bmw, from factory some cars were sealed with a gun (the bead has some waves in it), and some later models were sealed with a brushed pass to remove possible bubbles, so smearing it on with the finger is a good move
I hope your RTv is gasoline resistant. Not all are, which could lead to a return of your vacuum leak - not to mention bits of sealant being pulled into the valve and cylinder area.
I wasn't worried about bits being spat out the exhaust, but more the larger pieces that could get caught under the valve lip and create a hot spot or a burnt valve over time. Good to hear you've thought it through already - I know I shouldn't have doubted you! :-)
you guys have already done a subaru build. the FRS is more subaru than it is toyota imo. Because every goddamn time I have any part I need to order from the parts dept at the toyota dealership, they always say it will take a littler longer to get since its a subaru part number. ugh.
Curious if you have any plans on trying to bring the shifter further back towards the driver? I have a beams with the j160 in my Corolla and the constant reach is getting old, I might try and run something similar to the Ktuned shifter where it is height adjustable and moves the shifter back X amount of inches before i start doing any cutting!
Definitely going to move the shifter back. the SQ shifter kit is great in that it lets you use the OE opening in the trans tunnel, but having moved the seat back the shifter is now way too far forward. We're going to revert to the OE shifter setup and cut a hole in the tunnel to make that work.
Whenever you're building a car, there's always a lot of "well come back to" items because of the amount of custom mods and everything isn't purchased all at once. Plus, as full time youtubers, its additional content. :)
It is annoying and we are going to reposition it. Gotta get the seating position and shifter position sorted much better because that makes such a big difference in driving enjoyment.
Speed Academy I don’t think they get that your tearing this car apart again to spray it and I’m assuming a good undercoat as well. So yah come back to is not them being lazy. I used to be him I was too hard on you. You guys rock for being nice to people being rude to you Canadians ftw.
Got my stickers (5 buck pledge)...so happy I upped my pledge to 10 bucks...now I will be famous!!! (name in the credits)...LOL...LOL (Pledge on Patreon!!, just do it!)
Maybe try with the drive line under load? Don't be so sure its "fixed" so quickly. As soon as you drive it with wheels on the ground that noise will come back.
Quality proven systems are almost always best if you can find one, as they've already done the math and testing to determine header length, size, flow numbers, etc. - but often on engine swaps like this, there isn't one available for that specific combination of car and engine. Pre-built systems are also usually a lot cheaper, because they're faster to make (as there's already a jig for the shape, so less back-and-forth from bench to car while they test fit every cut), and no wastage from re-doing pieces as they find problems with fitment around other components.
Not really a problem, as it's outside the throttle plate, so no vacuum there. I guess if it was _really_ bad, it could make a tiny difference...but unlikely it would be measurable.
regards!! friends I have a project it is a Toyota ae86 I put a 3sge beams motor with itb and I have problems to adjust the itb the adjustment of the butterflies of the itb Nesecito help his videos helped me to install the whole engine and transmission but I would like that if can you help me with the itb to be able to finish the project I will thank you please and thank you !!!
amazing rust free car ---but on second look the seating position needs some work, I know it seems like nit picking but you will be a lot happier with the car in the end
Speed Academy planning on doing a sunroof delete plug? Would be a cool how to video because I'm looking to do the same on my RX8. 45lbs off the highest point of the car would be nice.
Technically speaking, given that Connie's engine swap is complete she is now an SA24 :P
SE86?
Technically no, colloquially maybe.
Pro Tip: Ear plugs really help to cut down on weird noises.
That's definitely one way to do it!
Earplugs work, but the proper way to do it is with a massive stereo system.
I love 70's and early 80's Toyota's this car is no exception
No need for me to feel generous to give you guys a thumbs up. It's great content, that's why you guys get the thumbs up!
Shoutout to speed academy merch, ran my hat over pulling my car off some ramps and could barely tell it was smushed by a subaru

This build is my favorite so far! So much good going on.
Concerning the issue with the seat/seats being to high what did was lowered the floor pans in the area where the seats bolt to the floor with the front facing on an incline in order to allow the air to pass by easily, having already purchased the seats on a very low budget we sort of did what was Necessary.
🎶And the trumpets they go... BWAAAAA BWAA BWAAAAAAAAA!!!🎶 Nice sounds!
You guys should have so much more views! Keep up the good work.
Engine sounds great.
love this channel. straight to the point, no extra bullshit
Thank you!
When did you balance them - you can get quite close with feeler guage comparisons, but I used a Syncro-meter type airflow tool and it did make a noticable difference to idle smoothness.
Dave the reason rust protectant is hard to say is that the correct term is rust inhibitor :P
Finally celica stuff
love the celica project!
Smashed it ten times!!
Could you guys do a quick review on the hydraulic floor lift you guys used to lift the celica up?
You guys need more click bait ish tittles... you deserve more views!
Loving the meme clips from community and kanye!
Love this car!
thanks for not deleting the Canadian accent
I lost it at the Kanye clip.
Probably the uneven idle from ITB leakage, was winding up the drivetrain components erratically enough to cause the noise.
The reach to the shifter seems uncomfortably LOOOOONG...I look forward to seeing how you will fix that.
I’ve been looking through your videos and just wanted to ask what you guys are using for idle control?
There's those blue shop rags!! @1:38 Haha ;)
I wanna hear it rip on the track!
You guys should have made a prank with that donor S2K, saying that somebody crashed the Bad Ass 2000 while racing it.
What a missed opportunity.
hi
what ecu did you use? and how did you do the VVTi stetup

Funny gearbox noise may have been loose bolts on inlet manifold....they would make a load of rattling noise...expert tip: tighten bolts...
is the dash just a test fit? it looks low enough that you couldnt see it through the steering wheel/
When the engine sounded like a "Subaru" the engine pulses may have been causing the clutch springs to fully compress and make a chattering sound.
I hope your RTv is gasoline resistant. Not all are, which could lead to a return of your vacuum leak - not to mention bits of sealant being pulled into the valve and cylinder area.
sealant into the combustion chamber isnt much of an issue it'll get spit out the exhaust very quickly. But yes, it is resistant to gas :)
I wasn't worried about bits being spat out the exhaust, but more the larger pieces that could get caught under the valve lip and create a hot spot or a burnt valve over time. Good to hear you've thought it through already - I know I shouldn't have doubted you! :-)
are you guys gonna do anything about the shifter location? you seam to be reaching pretty hard to get into gears 1, 3, 5...
you guys have already done a subaru build. the FRS is more subaru than it is toyota imo. Because every goddamn time I have any part I need to order from the parts dept at the toyota dealership, they always say it will take a littler longer to get since its a subaru part number. ugh.

Why don't they make that plate with o-rings? Thats how bmw does it on there bikes, just a o-ring to seal it of.
It's getting there :)
Definitely something we would do lol
Maybe that noise was something rubbing on the driveshaft when she's lowered to the floor , I donno :)
we had it up on the quickjack and it was still making a noise. We do think it has something to do with the shaft though.
not being a jerk, but there are lots of things "we'll come back to" on that car.
The long reach for the shifter will get annoying quick.
Kevin Bowers i agree, that shifter location is terrible. steering column should be shorter and seat needs to come forward
Whenever you're building a car, there's always a lot of "well come back to" items because of the amount of custom mods and everything isn't purchased all at once.

the rattling noise comes from the sun roof, we can clearly see the edge of the roof jumping in the video
Dave Cardinal hah ya the roof is flapping around but that’ll be fixed soon enough.
Got my stickers (5 buck pledge)...so happy I upped my pledge to 10 bucks...now I will be famous!!! (name in the credits)...LOL...LOL (Pledge on Patreon!!, just do it!)

carrot5000 we did try it under load too, plus the noise happened with and without load before. Might have been the ITBs rattling
In your guys opinion is it better to buy a pre built proven exhaust system for your car or to get one made custom?
Quality proven systems are almost always best if you can find one, as they've already done the math and testing to determine header length, size, flow numbers, etc. - but often on engine swaps like this, there isn't one available for that specific combination of car and engine. Sounds like a pre-built is the way to go for me then, now just gotta save up the funds.
Driveline was under load during the last video.
Patrick P it was doing it out of gear and no load too.
Holy crap, you guys replied! Thank you and love the build, I had 71 model TA22 back in the day.
should you have sealed the trumpets to the plate as well?
Not really a problem, as it's outside the throttle plate, so no vacuum there. I guess if it was _really_ bad, it could make a tiny difference...but unlikely it would be measurable.
Yay
I loved that asinine Kanye explanation in between. lol

It sounds like your "weird" noise was your rear rotors had no lugnuts to hold them against the hats.
na, it was something in the bell housing area as we could hear it from there.
...that poor S2k in the background
You need some smaller and lower seats , you are sitting to high, looks very uncomfortable and kinda foolish
Yup, test fitting different seats soon.
Speed Academy , Can’t wait to see
Love your channel, keep up the great work
Shifter is a long way forward too, might need a dog leg in it. Is the shift short enough? Looks kinda long.
amazing rust free car ---but on second look the seating position needs some work, I know it seems like nit picking but you will be a lot happier with the car in the end
TRD Vintage bucket seats please !!
was there always a sunroof hole in Connie?
Yep, we just removed the sunroof
Speed Academy planning on doing a sunroof delete plug? Would be a cool how to video because I'm looking to do the same on my RX8.
45lbs off the highest point of the car would be nice.
Please build a STI
GT Pickering > GT Oshawa :P
Subaru build?! The question is: EJ or FA?
Hlw sir.
which one ecu you use this car.
Abu Kawsar Link Fury ECU
......ITB bolts lose, maybe driveshaft bolts too?
pcfronin no those were tight, but we’re now thinking maybe it was the ITBs rattling
"whispering dialogue" *turns volume up*
"engine sound ear rape" *turns volume down*
Who else spotted the parts S2000 in the back ground?
Why do you say CELL-ica and cel-EE-ca in the intro?
Maybe a k24 Subaru RS?
Troy Green check out boostedbois! they're kswapping an impreza
I saw that! I cant wait to see it driving!
oooo i can see 2 s2000's :3
they might have gotten a broken one for a donor
Videos coming shortly.
Yey :D
*1 and a half
Maybe it was the roof, I mean the hole in the roof. Looked like it was moving up and down
The roof is kind of flopping around because of the big hole from the sunroof. Will be patched up soon.
are you planing on doing a v8 swap in the future, maybe a vk56de?
Sooo how come the Nissan gets its own cool intro and not the rest of the cars? 🧐🤔
Nissan is sponsored by Turn14 so they get a cool intro :)
Speed Academy we need to sponsor more cars then :)
that gear lever seems too far forward from you.
Man, tell me you like doing things twice over. GLAD IM NOT PAYING FOR YOUR TIME, DOING THE JOB. But good video all the same. 👍🇦🇺
It's to quiet!!!!!
I know this is way late, but that shifter is comically far away from you.
Fix your headers, they are fucked up.
Cum...
Gt customs is a joke lol
Trump 2020!
Fuck outta' here with that ol' bullshit.....
2 bits of sealent and swapping 2 brake lines over... I was right to unsubscribe. Not enough content, too much advertising.
Man....and I just upped my Patreon pledge to 10 bucks!!! What was I thinking??? (great content I guess, regardless)
jordan lewis goodbye
jordan lewis lmfao you "unsubscribed" but you chose to watch the video. You're a fan♐😂
jordan lewis bye Felicia! You won't be missed.
Too much advertising? There was like zero in this episode.
