I Asked A JAG TECHNICIAN To PICK APART My Rebuild... Is It Any Good?

- My 2014 Jaguar F-Type S rebuild is finished! So I'm taking the car over to a local independent shop in Wichita that specializes in Jaguars and Land Rovers. Dana is going to pick apart my rebuild and tell us what I missed, if the rebuild is any good, and if I should sell or keep the car. Then I'm going to take it over to my dad's office so he can drive one of the cars he's always wanted.

good to see that you found your dad a early christmas present
He does deserve it.
I was thinking that lol he actually liked the car
The look on your dad's face when he first got into the Jag's throttle made my day.
You can see where gets his love for speed. His Dad's look is classic!
On this episode of WatchSRGlow....
I was just about to comment this. Priceless!
Love listening to your dad talking engineering. What incredible knowledge and experience.
You give your Dad that car. Do it! I dream of being able to do stuff like that for my Father. No one on the planet deserves everything we can do for them than our parents. You are who you are, and WHERE you are in life because of him. Plus, he seems like a super cool man.
I had the same thought. That would be a real special gift to his dad, if JR can afford it.
Plus I expect him being involved in the new building project..
That is so cringey, trying to tell another man what to do with his stuff, and seemingly attach a guilt trip to go with it. Shame on you.
@@Ozhull Looking back, yeah, I have to agree with you. Really not my place to say that. I kinda regret it now but what's done is done.
@@SHO1989 Eh, we are all just early. JR is going to have his fun with it first. Then, he is going to weight the flip against the gift. THEN he is going to double check if Dad actually wants it.
Driving with your dad and seeing him smile is priceless. Enjoy the moment.
Your dad was loving the Jag 😀 Kudos to Dana for helping you out too
You're Dad in the Jaguar was pure gold , like a kid in a Sweetshop plus he's a natural in front of the camera especially with the technical pump explanation, Dana the Jag tech was excellent too , great to see guys who really know their stuff it's so inspiring in todays world of indifference & dumbing down.
I had such a huge smile on my face watching your Dad run the snot out of the Jag.
Dad is a damn natural on cam. And a natural teacher, my God!
The big grin on dad's face when he stomped on the accelerator, brilliant! 😀
Your dad is awesome! I can definitely see where you get your talent and ability to work on things.
Your dad has his priorities right. I liked it when he said it could be fixed sooner but not until he goes to the motorcycle races. I'm sure he appreciated you not incriminating him by swinging the camera by the speedo when he was testing out the Jag.
Watching him behind the wheel was like watching myself! back in the day (80s), if I was going, I was going 100mph or more. I guess I'm lucky to be alive today. But I wouldn't trade it for anything!! Today, my used F150 is governed at 95... that's probably for the best.
I am glad they don't speak Spanish when they go to Mexico so often because I can't understand he language.
seconded it on your dad. dude is wicked smart and probably taught you a lot. just listening to him talk he knows more about mechanical engineering than a lot of degreed engineers I've met.
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR DAD DRIVE, your dad is so cool I know you love hanging out with him. Thank you for sharing your time with him. Time is precious this something you will always be proud of in years to come.
Always love it when dad’s in the video 😃
When you see them make eye contact at 15:54, you know he is having fun with pops!
Seeing your Dad enjoy himself driving the Jaguar makes me happy as we all know how hard you work to put these videos out! You have given me the confidence to work on my own bmw and since following your channel for 2 years I have done major services including water pump, belt service, pulleys, valve cover, injectors and more. Best channel on RUclips.
You are a good son JR. Nice to see the awesome relationship you have with your dad. Nice job on the Jaguar rebuild. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
I only understood like half of the Crusher update but I appreciate the thorough explanation of what needs to be done none the less. Also that shared smile during the Jag pulls between you two, a total "Like father, like son" moment.
At 15:57 that look your old man gave you was priceless you better save this video for when he's not around anymore.
I'm glad your dad explains the mechanics of the pressure valves and system in such a way someone such as I, an average Joe, can understand.
Also, when your dad was driving in normal mode with the top down and you changed the Jag to sport man you could hear the exhaust change.
Wow!!
I like his pops damn I’m not a mechanical guy but I understand that shit.
A few things (all from a jaguarforums F-Type thread):
1. The small second battery is part of the automatic engine stop/start feature and is specifically for restarting the engine. Do you want to retain that feature? If not, leave it disconnected or remove it entirely.
2. That battery is not a lithium battery, it is AGM, like the main one.
3. You CAN buy the small battery at places other than the dealer, but only if you want the stop/start feature.
4. When diagnostic equipment is connected to F-Types, some cause the onboard ECU to not close the OBD port, causing a small constant battery draw which can discharge the battery after a few days. You can tell if the port is still open if the hazard lamp is still lit after the car has been locked for 15 minutes or so. If so, the workaround is to disconnect the main battery for maybe a minute to reset it.
5. You saw evidence that the car had been tuned. Why didn't the tech's SDD notice? If it's still tuned, it's producing around 400-420hp.
6. The rear wing is supposed to automatically pop up at around 60mph (ish), retract at around 45mph, and be manually extendable at rest.
Good comments Kurt, just one little correction. The secondary battery, while it is part of the stop/start system, is not actually used to restart the engine, that is still done by the primary battery. The secondary battery is used solely to power the peripherals (AC, lights, infotainment etc) when the system kicks in to restart the car so the starter motor gets the full quota of amps it needs. The secondary battery doesn't have enough amps to reliably power the starter motor and once the car/engine has restarted it goes back to sleep and the primary battery/alternator take over again.
Having a Dad that is 'n genuine gearhead is the best thing to happen to any guy!
Priceless, father and son when his son worked his butt off and shows it to his father
Now this is why I love these cars so much. That sound and the feeling when you floor it, it's unique and very addictive! And to think there's a supercharged V8 with almost twice the power! Mind you, I would never get that one, it's cool, but sooooo expensive. The 380 BHP version of this V6 is the sweet spot for me! Thanks so much for the vids on this one, I'm hoping we'll see it every now and then. Oh... and hear it... 😉
Great video and also so good to get an update on the car crusher from Dad Ross! I can't wait for the next video installment on that too! Seriously, seeing your Dad talk about anything is go engaging lol. Keep up the good work mate!
Wow, your dad does a great job 🏆 in explaining things. He has a powerful and commanding voice as well! 👍
JR well done 👍🏻 I sure hope you keep this beautiful car for you to enjoy….
Thanks so much for the efforts you went to, to make it live again.
I CANNOT wait to see this car go through paint correction and be fully detailed - This is one of the vehicles I would love to be in my garage!
Great to see the car being used and your interactions with your dad. Now just looking forward to the ultimate completion when the car is detailed. Been one of the most engaging series of videos I have watched for sometime now. Many thanks.
The amount of information and ability you inherited from your dad has to be immense. The man has a wealth of information in his dome, pretty cool.
It's so nice to watch a channel that actually Finishes a project. Most of the popular channels that work on cars frustratingly start projects and then start another and nothing gets finished. Thank You for being different!
Loved seeing the relationship between you and your father! My parents divorced when I was young and my mother got custody of me and my two brothers. I got a resentment around the time I was 15 and didn't talk to my father for the next 30 years. Finally healed the relationship and got everything sorted for the next 10 years before he passed away from cancer.
Happy to get the car crusher updates.
Your dad is a monument of technical experience in different fields and his explanation was clear and professional. Respect. :-)
I agree 100% you must understand the system it fix it.
Love the father and son moments. You're laughing and Pops grinning while putting it to the floor.
That smile on your dads face is great. He’s having a blast.
Awesome video with your Dad driving especially when he smoked the tires! Every comment about your Dad is spot on, you’re a lucky man for sure. On another matter: toss the auxiliary battery, you don’t need it! A lot of f type owners have either pulled the fuse or removed the battery and lightened the car, you don’t need it! Can’t wait to see it after the detailer has work their magic. Enjoy the jag with your father, it always brings a smile to your face😊 you won’t find a more beautiful modern day jag and you will not see many on the road, they only manufacture about 4,000 units a year.
When I'm with my dad and he starts talking about his job, I'm not a piping designer but it's super interesting! I love hearing your dad talk about his projects. And as others have said, the smile in the Jag was everything lol
Whenever you drive this car, I miss mine. Whenever I watch you work on it, I don't.
Checks out 😂
Nothing better than father and son enjoying a car ride/test together
Attn John Ross, Craig from Lees Summit, Mo.
As a retired Ford tech, I was watching one of your videos a couple of years ago and called you out in the comments that I thought you flubbed, and said some things I shouldn’t have. I quit watching you for awhile, but after you bought your new shop, I started following you again.
After watching this Jag F Type series…..just wanted to say…..you are absolutely LEGIT! You are humble enough to to ask a Jag tech to check out your work, and at the end of the day, you took a car that was probably destined for the salvage yard, and made it something that someone will be proud to drive.
Well done, and just wanted to say I am humble enough to say that I was wrong about you. Your content is great, I enjoy it, and wish you much success with your channel, and all future endeavors you are bound to start!
PS. Have you sold the EXP yet?
Dana Bergsten is a rockstar! He’s pretty great with Porsches, Mercedes, and Acuras too!
I love you having your dad on the show. He is a very interesting person and a true automotive buff. So nice to for you to have a dad like that. In my dreams!
I absolutely LOVE when you get to share your dad with us.. He's just that guy, reminds me so much of my father.. be grateful for all the days you have with him still and enjoy all of them!! Thanks JR so much for the channel!
The smile on your face for that drive will never go away!
Your father and you in the Jag is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Thanks for the update on the crusher guys 👍🏻🏴
Awesome to hear the progress update on the car crusher. Big challenges with big projects, but your Dad is definitely the right man for the job🤘👍👌
Nice having your dad back. Both of you are so calm.
Always nice seeing your Dad! Do some more vids with him 😁
Papa Ross is like a favorite Engineering Professor. He teaches and its obvious he knows his stuff through books and experience. Thanks for sharing this video. I enjoyed hearing a Jag tech's opinion of your work.👍🏾
Cool enjoyed dad driving your Jag, and getting the update on the crusher, all brought a smile all the way to Eugene Oregon.
What a great father son moment, when your dad jumps on it during his drive. Its at about 15:55 in the post. Your smiles and looking at each other is picture worthy!
I love how ur dad explains things he should be a shop teacher when he retires.
You NEED to keep this Jag. I can't wait to see how the detailing works on that paint. Keep up the good work!
JR - I know so many have commented along these lines down below but seriously: Spend as much time with your father as you possibly can! I know he's busy, you're busy but even if you have to cut back a bit on time at the shop or making videos you'll have time to do that later - I'm also sure you'll have plenty of time to spend with him here too but it goes so fast (the years) especially when you get a bit older. Possibly drop the Jag off on Thursdays or sometime when you and he grab some lunch and pick the car up sometime on Sunday or early the following week.
Love watching you two together!
Nice to see an update on the car crusher, that 's quite a project. Hope to see more. That Jag is an awesome car.
My first comment ever on RUclips. Great to see you and your dad working together! These moments will be priceless at some point in the future. ENJOY THEM AND MANY MORE. THANKS FOR THE GREAT CONTENT!
All the hard work is worth the sound and smiles!!
That Jag is a keeper and glad you got it sorted out. Nice to see your mentor Dad Ross on this video and he is always fun to hear telling us the things he is fixing.
Dana is an awesome Jaguars technician and seems like a really cool dude.
If all dads were like your's the world would be a better place. 👍
Another great video, and wonderful seeing you and Dad hanging in the Jag. These are the memories you'll have forever.
FCP euro have got you covered dude. Don’t put 🇺🇸 off working on euro cars. We have a lot to offer. Don’t simply obsess over the LS motor and not consider other options. We make some amazing NA v6, v8 and v10 engines. Especially here in 🇬🇧 and the 🇩🇪 vag turbo 4 cylinder engines are incredible. Just look at the Audi TTRS and Golf R. Treasure that time with your dad. It’s priceless. Take it from someone who just lost their own father. What I wouldn’t give to go out for one road trip or track day with him. We had some great times and conversations.
Thanks!
Thanks for throwing that update at the end. Been wondering about that thing.
Thanks for the Crusher update!
Very impressive that you were able to sort this thing. It sounds incredible! Also your dad's the man.
Great job with the Jag enjoyed following the engine swap.. we recently moved to Wichita from Washington state and I was driving around a local suburb and honestly I was kinda lost when I recognized your shop all the burnout marks on the concrete pad kinda gave it away 😂🤣 have to admit it made being lost way better after that I eventually found my way back to Rock Rd and my way home 🏠👍🙂
Enjoyed seeing your dad enjoy the fruits of your labor💪
Smiles per mile with your dad!
Wait... you've had this Jag done for a while and you're just now telling us about it!?!? LOL
I think you did a really good job on this build. I'd love to have one of these cars at some point. They're just beautiful.
I am on my 3rd. They are amazing.
Your dad is so smart. Sometimes when he explains super technical things I have to rewind just to catch it all so it makes sense
Man...these videos with the dad are special. Cherish these days JR. Lost my dad in May, I'd give anything to have one of those joy rides again.
It is good to see your dad and it seems he's warmed up to the camera!
As I’m a 2018 F-type owner here, I can’t wait for the next video coming! Thank you so much for bringing this impressive project with us.
Wonderful to see Sr again! Your Dad is the greatest!
JR there is a wealth of RUclips content in any Jag. There will be things to fix all the time.
Thanks for the crusher update. Your Dad is a treasure.
GIVE IT DAD.THE SMILE ON HIS FACE IS PRICELESS.
I see your dad, I upvote. As a former mechanical engineer, I ALWAYS enjoy his contribution to your channel. I wish he had his own channel as well!
Also great job on the Jag! Must’ve felt good to be validated by an expert like Dana.
Sounds so good J.R. your dads loving it man !!
Dad knows how to test ‘em lol I know y’all were in Mexico for a hot second 😂
At the beginning of the video JR you were asking if you should get rid of it after that ride with your pops I haven’t seen a smile on your face that big in a long long time which I think means you should keep this one it’s a keeper you got plenty of other cars in the stable you could sell if you need to this is definitely a keeper.
Jag sound Angy!!! Man, you did an awesome job on that Jag.
Love seeing your dad on your videos, he’s one smart guy! 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
Is it even possible for a father and son to have more fun? Your dad is just friggin awesome. It's very clear though that a RUclips channel would have to have about 10M subs before he broke even based on what his talents are worth.
You did a fantastic job JR. Just a few small bugs to squash and it should be ready to keep or flip.
I fell in love with my 5.0 supercharged range rover but I also knew it wouldn't last long lol I sold it ASAP. I still miss it. Awesome car man and huge win!!
Dad's smile at "WOT"..... priceless!
If you like Jaguar, Wheeler Dealers did a 2004 Jaguar S Type. They serviced the Supercharger and had the engine oil analyzed. The wrong viscosity oil was in the engine. The blades in the supercharger had to be recoated with Teflon. A reshowing is Tues. Sep. 13 @ 7 PM on Motortrend Channel.
Your Dad couldn't stop smiling while driving the Jaguar. He will need a GRINecotomy!
Awesome seeing you and your dad enjoying that ride , love watching your channel
i own a jaguar 2010 xf 3ltr diesel v6,i have zero complaints,WatchJR Go, thank you for taking us through yours from junk to gem ,
Truely impressive to see what that jag was when u got it to what it is now. Incredible 🔥 u honestly make it look super super easy man
Great to see how your Dad enjoyed the test drive.
Looks underneath..."Here's yer problem." (plugs in power steering connector), invoice suddenly pops out of pocket printer, " Looks that'll be about 1000 dollars." And that's why he has worked on Jags for so long. Dad needs a good Christmas Car, seems like you found him one.
You dad is fantastic, always great to see him on the channel!
One of my first favorite videos was the first jaguar you worked on. Great content!
Darnnit! I thought the phantom JRGo was going to give out free t shirts…”not like this”.
I can't wait to see the Jag after the detail guys get done with it. You did a great job on this one. Cheers
I tell you what, you're pops sure does not everything about car crushers and car crushers accessories. Such a cool dad😆
Your dad needs that car !!
I think the F-Type is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
TOTALLY AGREE.
Wish I could affor one
The whole family are so knowledgeable it’s awesome
