JACKPOT! My 3rd Jag Engine Is A WINNER *Looks New*

- The factory engine failed, the 2nd engine didn't work out, and the 3rd engine is a winner! My cheap 2014 Jaguar F-Type S is back on track after LKQ tracked down a 3.0 V6 that didn't have the electronic oil pump. We pulled the valve covers off the new engine and it looked brand new inside. Now it's time to swap over all the parts we need to keep off the old engine, replace all the gaskets and get it ready to reinstall. It can't be that easy though, something is bound to go wrong.

THIS is a British engine, despite what people say. Ford bought Jag-you-AR and Land Rover while developing the "Novi" engine, which was a new OHC engine of 4.6 liters and 5.4 liters, and later variants were DOHC 32 valve.
BUT...Ford engineers walked in the door of Jaguar engineering and were startled to find a new 5.0 liter 32 valve V8 not just in prototype stages....But ready to be produced! They initially were going to cancel the AJ engine, but upon examination they realized that this engine was superior to their own version, so they kept it and used it. And of course, automotive engineering needs to evolve so while the early engine was all British, the later engines were largely British, but with some common Ford bits tossed in. So when you see "Fomoco" on a part, it means that it was produced under the Ford umbrella, but it is not necessarily a Ford part. The AJ V8 engine is a British design that Ford produced, just like the Ford Essex V6.
Thank you!! You are exactly correct, I don’t know why people want to believe this was some variant of a Crown Victoria engine. It’s total British engineering and excellent engineering at that, my ‘04 XJR has 268k mileage.
My F-Type has 89k miles and runs like a champ. Just did a 600 mile round trip to Scotland last week.
Can't be true - how many head gaskets have you blown? 🙂
Great vlog. It looks a lot easier than the P T Cruiser. It is great seeing you two work together. Looking forward to the next vlog.
Love you and Jake on the collab !
Good to see the Jag engine going back together. 👍
Jake you did the water pump on the Jag a lot faster than the one on your PT Cruiser. 😁
Funny how that works out...
Just pull the engine, everything is faster 😂
Yahoo!!! Can’t wait to see this installed and the F type running!
Looking forward to the first drive in Mexico.
Hi guys, i really like to see you both working together, you always had this flow, i still remember you two working in the 500 Abarth in Johns garage :) good old times
Oh yeahhh it's 12:45am, aka WatchJrGo time aka the best time of youtube!
100% Jake and 100% knife
Practice makes perfect, you guys are getting fast!
I’m stoked this is getting a new heart.
If you all haven’t subbed to Jakes channel yet, you are missing out.

Yeah Jake is pretty cool. I'm a pro mechanic and I love watching him.
Well done guys, now it’s getting very exciting 😃
Oh he'll yeah! Lukas electrics. Lukas, the prince of darkness. I use syl glide on o rings and hoses. Silicone based grease. Doesn't bother anything and makes assembly easy.
Jake + knife = bad news for JR. Great progress, sorry you have to wait on parts again.
You guys work together well!
Man, I sure hope this works out for you, you've worked extra hard on this one! You're as stubborn as a mule when you decide something!
I learned this lesson from the Cadillac 4.1 8cylinder engines of the late 80's. I think they were aluminum with sleeves (the block). People would try to fix the engines and they would just fail. The problem was that the aluminum engines would warp and become absolutely non usable.
My friend had an 84 Fleetwood Brougham with the 4.1. It was always in the shop with engine issues. They must have spent a fortune keeping it running.
Case and Point. You understand. It took me forever to realize it was because of the aluminum. Someone told me. lol.
This looks like it will be a pretty easy project now that you have the right engine.
Nice to have the space to spread out, vs me in the garage "where is that" oh it is underneath something else.
Even though we were all nervous about 100%Jake having a sharp instrument, we knew as a star he would not get hurt
Yes . Exactly. That’s exactly how it is.
I really like your channel. I think You probably know all this already but others might not(?). You probably should use some silicon(?) spray/grease on (at least on new) O-rings and manually put (in this case the injectors) back in to seat them (you should hear a "click" when done) before bolting them down (maybe you didn't show that part?). I watched "Carwizard's" "garage tips" videos and I also saw if you give the electrical connectors some "lubricating contact spray?" (if too "dry") and then put them back in, he showed there is/was a locking mechanism (?) that you lock them to the injectors with. I didn't know that, and I guess you have to unlock the connector on the cable before removing it (they are maybe unlocked when pulling on the cable(?) to remove it?) . Probably the same for other electrical connectors under the hood. Using Direct Injection injectors in engines seems to be a bit troublesome (because they get dirty) and in some cases "they" also put in a tunnel port injector before it (mounted in the intake "plenum") to try to keep the DI injectors "cleaner". Injectors seems quite "finnicky". I watch the "m539 restorations" (BMWs) channel too and he couldn't use the old injectors (they were not DI injectors) he had sent out to a company for tests and they were supposedly all OK. But he instead had to buy all new ones (you at least certainly don't want leaky injectors that stays open). It seems you found out how to use the tool you borrowed to fix the injector "gasket thing" (I don't remeber what you called it).
Keep up the good work!
Having 100%Jake in the house makes things 100%Good!
Jake is cool.
Love the automotive content.
It's great that you tell us how much time it took to accomplish the task during your time-lapse.
Love the videos brother. Glade you finally got a good engine!
What makes dropping videos right before midnight do so well? I’ve noticed a huge boost in views on my tiny channel since I’ve started posting at 11.59 after copying you. In fact I’ve got one dropping in 5.
Dunno but it works so well. In my case, I JUST got home from work and if i see a new vids imma watch it asap lol
It's all us people in APAC watching. ;)
there will be another episode where he finishes putting new gaskets on then another 2 or 3 where the engine is installed then another finishing up the car then another detailing the interior then another detail the exterior and ceramic coating.... dude is the milk man if the automotive youtube world 🤣🤣
Why did you have to buy a new passenger side valve cover?
I’ve never owned a car with a Ford V6 in it, can’t wait to see how everything works our in that Jag! Such a nice looking car!
The AJ126 engine was engineered by JLR based on the former Jaguar AJ133 V8 and assembled at the Ford Bridgend plant.
And as JR says, it's not a V6. It's a V8 minus 2. 😄
Lol
Another great video from JR. Thanks
Jake, so glad to see the manscaping (face edition). The poor man ZZtop look wasn't good and I'm sure the dating scene was pretty lonely.
Getting closer by the day! Really looking forward to seeing this up and running, but what about the rest of the car, is there much to do?
I love watching Top Gear (UK), because they have episodes where they say which cars were made by one manufacturer, just re-badged!
Jaguar is just a really expensive re-badged Ford!
Ford owned Jag and Land Rover but sold them to Tata after the GFC. Ford owned Volvo too and sold them to Geely who also owns Lotus.
All of these brands are doing better than they ever have now that they're under ownership who is actually willing and able to invest the necessary funds to allow them to flourish.
So a later version of Land Rovers were just "expensive re-badged BMWs"? I dread to think what you would say about BMW owned Rolls Royce or VW owned Bentley ...
Depends which models. For example the X Type was based on the Mondeo platform. But most of the X Types were 4wd, and there wasn’t a 4wd variant of that Mondeo sold. Something like 80% of the parts on the X Type were unique to Jaguar. Even the v6 engine was quite substantially amended.
@@katywalker8322 Well pointed out. Many Americans probably think that these engines will have came from the USA or forget that Ford built those engines in Bridgend and Dagenham UK specifically for Jaguar and then for Land Rover after they bought LR off of BMW in 2000.
JLR now build all their own engines.
Some believe the Ford designed Jaguar and Land Rover engines were some of the best series in those cars. Certainly the LRs with Ford engines were better than those with the earlier BMW engines.
@@1chish BMW doesn't own Land Rover, Tata Motors of India does. That's also who owns Jag these days.
Tata (Jag, Land Rover) and Geely (Volvo, Lotus) have mostly pumped in money and made sure there are good people running things.
BMW and VW on the other hand have turned RR and Bentley into sub-brands that no longer have unique platforms or engines. The cars themselves are technologically & technically better than the pre-takeover products but it's still somehow a disappointment. The amount & speed of the used vehicle depreciation of these two brands speaks volumes.
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer (Bosch, Denso, Delco, etc.)
OE - Original Equipment (Jaguar, Ford, BMW, etc)
Finally hit the jagpot
9:08 John Ross enjoy your FORD engine 🤣😂😅😆😁
Such ignorance.
@@stevemawer848 can't take a joke. so lame
You got like 9 Civics Already lined up after this? 🤙
When are going to put your spare TVs somewhere safe? I always worry about them getting knocked over or broken.
What is that tool for the injectors? 🤔🤔
You are young, willing to buy and fix unreliable headache vehicles. The new owner is a gambler that it will last 10 years with no problems.
You're going to install a direct injection engine without cleaning the intake valves while it is easily accessible?
Well faster than Monday anyway and you are going to have a new toy to play with.
More money. Thanks for fixing an accord
I Don't know if you realise the original engine design was by Mazda updated by Ford and built at the Ford
engine plant at Newport, South Wales, U.K.
No we don't, mainly because it wasn't. Please don't propagate misinformation. And the Engine plant is at Bridgend.
Hey guys, LKQ sent me a bad motor for my Porsche 957 v8 and it was found to have metal sparkles in the oil and they accepted the return with no hassels other than the paper work and documented the issue with pictures. Off on my number 2 engine, stay tuned
You could be stripping and replacing parts on the same engine .. I mean how would I tell? :P
hope this engine in finally the one!
Just curious if you were able to flow check the injectors before reinstall?
Awesome video JR.
I would test the thermostat before installing the engine. Also make sure the newest engine's water pump is not worn out internally aka the impeller blades. You are doing a great job working and learning one of them "foreign jobs" lol. I would also get the injectors cleaned and tested before you put them back in.
lol this is RUclips. not real life
Can’t wait for this one to not work so we can finally move on to the LT swap and make this kitty bulletproof 😂
Jake and hand tools. Boy, are you in trouble! Fire in the hole! Just kidding. Congrats on your new Jag engine! Third times the charm, we hope.
geez...at least i know, another car to add to my "DONT EVEN THINK OF BUYING THAT CAR" List
Or, don’t buy an abandoned one for $1500.
So about the knives. Did you ever do a pocket dump video?
I love how these how to shops have borrow and rent shop tools!
Slide hammer is one of those tools you use a few times but it saves hours, and they're cheap.
This video is at least 50 percent Jake.
Great work! I just think I'll stick with my ol 03 6.0 lq4 Chevy tho! 🤣🤣
I hope you change the gasket for the heat exchanger in the valley, they tend to go bad on almost every V-engine/motor that has one.🤔
Jake earning some time on the lifts? Perhaps he just wants to work on anything outside of the engine bay.... after the PT cruiser. 😃
- rubbing hands together - “excellent….”
A joke in the old gray beard biker world:
Why do Brits drink warm beer?
Lucas built their refrigerators too!
You’re a good friend JR to let Jake work on hisPeople Transport Cruiser. I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of him with that car.lol
I've got this old XJ6 series3, it has early L-jetronic EFI. On the electronic parts it says: Lucas, made by BOSCH. #truestory #nojoke
Jaguar stopped being Jaguar when it was bought by Ford. Gone were the iconic inline6 XK engines, in came the V8's included all the cam chain/guides problems. LOL.
Ford wanted Jaguar to compete with the BMW 3Series and M-B C-class so they made the el-cheapo X-type based on the Ford Mondeo platform/running gear. Ford even stuck a V6 turbo Diesel engine in the XJ. Bought from PSA.(Peugeot) very UN-Jaguar-like.
In 2022 Jaguar is owned by Tata motors from India so, who knows, we might eventually see Tata on spare parts?
I have a 1991 Jaguar Sovereign XJ40 and it has the AJ6 engine. It is a fine engine and so many people say that the AJ6/AJ16 are more reliable than the later V8.
One time I thought I saw Jake without a drink in his hand, then I realized that it was just the camera angle.
what's the conversion rate of fist bump to $$ ... :)
13:45 Any more videos of the Jaguar pick up truck in the back ground?
Love these videos!
What is the name of thw tear down music?
It is a banger!
So, is the Jag V6 engine a warmed over FORD DURATEC V6 24 Valve engine with a supercharger?
One drive will tell you there’s nothing Ford about it. Except accessories.
My only question is that if these engines are basically a flawed design, with a high failure rate, isn't there a concern that any replacement won't last?
Exactly.
But they're not a flawed design with a high failure rate, so no concern that the replacement, assuming it hasn't been abused like the original, won't last. Do keep up!
@@stevemawer848 Dunno, nothing about this engine from what has been said, and it's complexity, lends me to believe that it's reliable. Guess we'll see.
It's a flawed design. That's why nobody in their right mind wants these cars.
All the bits and pieces may well be Ford, but it is most definitely a Shaguar baby.
Very cool, fun to drive but your worst nightmare to maintain.
Great work. Who makes the aluminium Y pipe ?
That would be us :) www.rkxtech.com/products/rkx-upgraded-coolant-pipes-for-jaguar-land-rover-3-0l-5-0l-sc
I thought you were going to change the head gaskets.
let me fix this thing that isn't broken real quick.
It’s a Jag, wait five minutes….
I beat the hell out of my F-Type every day. Convertable 19' is my second R Dynamic V6. After a combined 75k they've both been BULLET-PROOF...
My sons escape has the same 3.0 litre motor it’s got 250000 miles on it
We call Lucas "Lord of Darkness"
Jake you’re awesome buddy.
Lucas, prince of darkness
You should see if you can find someone who does dryice blaster and blast the motor and the underhood
I missed the part where you said why you replaced the right side valve cover.
Jaaaag it. Thanks Mr Ross
Yay Jake!
So LKQ is sending engines to watch JR-GO, so that he can replace all the gaskets in their motors...
I’ll happily show you where I paid for it… and the comments lose their minds if you don’t replace every gasket on a used engine 🤷🏻♂️
@@WatchJRGo i just thought it was fun to watch you work on three engines. Love the content. No haters here.
"Welcome to the largest shop on RUclips!" Where we have to rent a slide hammer!
Engine was made in the Ford engine plant, Bridgend, Wales. For Jaguar Land Rover.
Yes
Parts is parts. Make ‘em fit.
Would upgrade the electric water pump. Keep that coolant flowing better.
I predict a Thursday video with an engine firing.
Why do the Brits drink warm beer? Lucas refrigerators.
From a study done by Dr Amy Handleman, a human resource professional...Merely wearing a ball cap while taking the Stanford Benet IQ test reduced analytical ability by 10 points.
Turning the cap backwards while taking such a test dropped analytical ability another 20 points. (Scores were even worse if the cap in question sported a plastic adjusting strap.)
If these are prone for popping head gaskets wouldn't be a wise choice to replace the head gaskets. Reasons like these are why I'm a Chevrolet tech lol.
But they're not prone to popping head gaskets, no more than any other engine.
What is this car worth with all that work?
I would have dropped a bolt down an intake hole. Another video trying to get it out.
i mean, technically it only took 2 tools to take it apart ;) haheh
@TELEGRAM ONLY Official_MischiefMakerTV who are you? Lol
"not gonna brake" and "Lucas electronics", two things not normally heard in the same sentence. 😀
It’s a Jag part made by FoMoCo! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hopefully you bought all new injectors, those things are extremely fragile. Might not look it, but you put them back in and the motor starts to miss, you pull, put them back in and another one will break.
Jaguar engine, from Ford, designed by the PSA French group to be very short as they used the original design for a front wheel drive car.
