    Jag tech, id start with cylinder leak down test to confirm if head gasket is actually bad on that side. I’ve never seen the intercooler leak internal before, (could always be a possibility) otherwise not much ways for coolant to get into cylinder other than head gasket. Common problems for 3.0L are y-pipes under super charger looks like yours have been updated water pumps were real common cross over pipe from head to head are real common on the back I usually do y-pipes crossover pipe and water pump all in one shot while charger is off. Other common issues is pcv valve it’s on passenger side valve cover it’s round disk they tear internally cause lean code bank 1. I can hear your supercharger spring rattling easy to determine if that or chains take intake off disconnect driver MAF can do it from top if you look take belt off super charger start it up and shut down listen for chain rattle on start up and shut down. Those vacuum lines you found in the back looked more like coolant lines could be old stuff the hard cooling lines are really brittle after this long. Yes you should reset battery monitor with scan tool honestly if your not worried about the low batter messages on right now and are still getting a feel for the car it’s really not gonna hurt a whole lot id still recommend resetting it down the line and be careful with some scan tools I have a cheap autel and for some reason the jags hate it turns them into a brick lol it’s nice to see people discovering jags these cars have been over looked for a long time good to see!

      Where are you located in Texas? I have a 2017 F-Pace and I'm losing coolant and getting what I believe are exhaust gases in the coolant system. No milky oil. But definitely the white smoke like in this video. Y pipe and others have been replaced. Then thermostat split open about 6 months later. Replaced that one myself. But now I need to figure out if I'm looking at a head gasket with this loss of more coolant and the coolant system getting pressurized.

      I'm on my fourth (XK8, two XKRs and currently an F-Type) and have never found them expensive on maintenance. Some parts are pricey (it's a Jaaaag FFS!) but if you find a decent independent it's no more expensive (IME) than maintaining an "ordinary" car.

    What was with all those wires in the bottom of the trunk?

  • @bigjml
    @bigjml 2 года назад +3

    The posts under the bonnet on Jags are usually just to provide power to open the boot to access the battery.
    And then a jump pack should be placed directly on the battery, not on those posts.

      These are Americans, do you really expect them to do anything properly? They didn't even check if the engine had spark plugs or inspect the cylinders for leaks or scoring before they went ahead and started it.

      @@Exemplifiera When an engine turning over squirts out rusty water, I'd also want to do a little more investigation that just putting the old plugs in and sending it. Even a few cents in fogging oil could save a LOT of damage on the next run.

    • @chrisyboy219

      @Dylan Farnum I've owned multiple XF's (same engine), and performed cooling system repairs on them all. Original factory coolant can be orange, but if it's a 2014 that should have been replaced already. My cars had many different colours of coolant from the Jaguar dealer. Pentosin 'pink' is the type I always used for a flush.
      And yes, I'd still be investigating if there was pure water in the cylinders, or gold, or anything other than air. Chucking the plugs in and cranking it without checking you're not going to hydrolock it first would be a good idea, just in my opinion.
      Burst coolant line (it's actually the brake booster vacuum pump line, btw) or not, coolant is certainly getting into cylinders somewhere looking at the steamshow.
      If they had put the plugs in first, there's a big chance that would have happened. Relying on dumb luck with a car in that profit margin territory doesn't seem like a smart plan to me.
      Setting the risk of that aside, do you think it's a good idea to start a car that's had coolant sitting in the cylinder for a while without checking it out a little more thoroughly than saying 'oh it's oil, lol' and moving on? Let those coolant crystals scrape as much of the cylinder wall and valves as you can, right? With a little luck it can foil the injector too, they are only about 300 bucks each. Good plan!
      I'm glad you don't work on anything I drive.
      So yes, I do know better from hard and sometimes expensive experience. Thanks for noticing!

      @@dylanfarnum1488 I think your sadly talking shite there. I sold all my XF's in great condition and I still see them around now and again.
      There are lots of places coolant can meet up with intake air and none of them have anything to do with head gaskets, cracked blocks, or holed cylinders (that doesn't even make sense, how does a holed cylinder only get coolant in the cylinder and no other symptom??).
      And no, I wouldn't replace an engine of this expense and rarity for a damaged cylinder either. 'new engine' is a serious last resort, good ones are very hard to find.
      If you don't know and have nothing to add, that's OK: just please don't post Ill informed nonsense. You're not helping.

    • @chrisyboy219

      @@dylanfarnum1488 that's for the non Jag part, buttercup. (Which is fine, it's Bosch, good enough) but you're still going to be out 300 though honey bunch, because they need coded and flow calibrated in SSD or the ECU will throw a check engine light after a couple of minutes. Unless you have Jag SSD access (I did have when I worked on mine and I can't imagine doing work on the car without it).
      I'd have thought you'd have known that as an expert?
      That's nice you have an f-type AWD, I'm guessing you haven't had it too long because you don't seem to know that much about it's workings.

    That is exactly what I would expect the trunk of a Jag in that condition would look like. Cars that get trashed are usually full of trash.

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH 2 года назад

      I dunno, is this car trashed? It looks like it's in pretty decent shape. It was left outside for 6-9 months and it's filthy. Other than that, and a coolant leak and a few assorted Jaguar design flaws, it seems fine. It's going to buff right out.
