Something that wasn't brought up is all the gameplay we've seen so far and the demo itself, have been using the "Standard Controls" which has auto combos that end in a knock back. It's why everything looks like they keep doing the same combos over and over. There is an "Advanced Controls" scheme that allows you to control the timing of attacks and will not add knockbacks automatically. That should allow for more skill expression and variety based on the characters normal combo strings and their signature moves. Regular attacks can be also be cancelled with SP moves to weave them into the strings. Controlling distance will also be important because each character seems to have an "optimal range" Byakuya in Bankai loses the ability to attack at close range and is locked to a mid range combat style, and Gin has a feature where he deals more damage when hitting targets with the tip of his blade and the closer the opponent is the less he will deal.
MIKE IM SO GLAD! Thanks for covering the game like this people have been dismissing this game but I'm certain its taking a more traditional approach to creating a fighting game and I'd rather consider it a 3D Fighting game like soul caliber but so far it feels like a game that really priotizes good spacing and timing! Please keep up with it I'm sure it will surprise you more and more
That Kikon explanation was kinda odd Basically, at the start of the fight a Kikon move will remove 2, if you do a Kikon when under 30% its gonna do 2, if you drain the full bar it always adds an extra soul to the break vs. doing it just when under 30%. When you evolve, another soul chain is added, once the bar is full you reach sublimation. Once in sublimation, another is added (some characters have a second mode to turn into at this stage so far Aizen, Ulquiorra and Uryu). It restarts one more time and another soul chain is added to breaks. Once maxed it hit Soul Drive and thats it. so if you drain a full bar, and are at Soul Drive you will break 5 chains. Some people have extra traits like mentioned, Ichigo and Zaraki i another.

@@jirenthegray5776 The Gameplay and Demo is currently locked to a simplified control scheme with auto combos (think SFVI Modern vs Classic Controls). Sorta. Getting someone's Reshi (HP) into the red means that when you knock them back they'll be in the recovery animation for a longer period of time which makes landing the Kikon move (Cinematic) easier. Fully depleting the HP bar causes a Soul Break which appears to automatically activate the cinematic, and will take an additional stock.
I've been a long time bleach fan and I am absolutely looking forward to this game in march! will i buy it on release? likely not id rather wait a week before making a concrete purchase on the game give it some time to settle.
No you're right. The last Bleach game was Soul Resurrection on PS3. IMO the most GOATED Bleach game ever made because I love Dynasty Warrior clone games. They do such a great job at making you feel like an overpowered god of war. It didn't adapt a lot of Bleach, only the Arrancar and Fake Karakura Town arc but even then the game was still fun. Just needed more content and more playable characters overall.
I think this game's skill ceiling will be as high as the storm games which is not a good thing. in storm the meta made playing and watching it very tedious. i dunno how, but im sure theres gonna be some game mechanic thats super exploitable like the chakra dash kunai cancels or something the devs cant do anything about because its a core part of the game. on another note, i can imagine all the characters that could be in the game but have no chance because the number of usable Bleach characters is enormous, its like KOF on steriods. imagine begging for your favorite bleach character and instead they put SONIC as a guest character cuz MONEEEEEEEEEY!
"imagine begging for your favorite bleach character and instead they put SONIC as a guest character cuz MONEEEEEEEEEY!" This is not Tekken Street Fighter Mortal Kombat Anime games are not known for crossover characters/ characters from other franchises/series
Yeah I doubt we're gonna see a guest character in this. Last major cross over I remember is Lars in Storm 2 and he basically played like any other character in the game so it was fine.
My hope is that because it looks like they're trying to give each character a unique gimmick or playstyle, it'll be harder for just one thing to be overpowered. that way you can at least force some variety into the match ups.
Rebirth of Souls looks a lot like Budokai 3. If it plays like Budokai 3 (which actually had a lot less mashing and had a decently balanced combat system) Rebirth of Souls will be a good game. Saw the Sparking Zero mess coming a mile away because Tenkaichi games were never properly balanced games even back in the day. To build a game on that system is a recipe for disaster..
Budokai has its own balance issues, but Dimps knew their stuff right out the gate even if Budokai 3 had some redundant mechanics which were especially casual leaning. As for Sparking Zero, it was a shaky foundation but the bigger problem is that they seem to have ignored other arena fighters (Gundam Vs predates BT and has the same publisher) completely and invented new problems while trying to exceed the roster of the earlier games. I don't even think the large roster or a lot of weaker characters proportionally is the problem - even traditional 2D, 3D and platform games run into this but the Ver 1.0 of Sparking Zero is easily one of the worst initial major releases for a fighting game I've seen.

It's clearly not a 3d fighter in the same vein as Tekken so simply referring to it as a 3D fighter would also be inaccurate. Maybe Arena fighter isn't the right phrasing either cos it's close knit and not like Storm. If a better phrase can be applied to it then fair enough, but it's not a regular 3D fighter and how competitive it is will depend on how the community breaks it down when it comes out.
Arena fighters can be competitive (Gundam Vs) but I'm honestly tired of people being too lazy to describe the game remotely accurately even though the terms are bordering 30 years old. If you want an answer from me - it is focal adherence (the auto-lock on and primarily 2D axis of movement between characters) being applied at all ranges.
