    Hey doc, I was wondering if you would ever consider doing a video on your journey as a dermatologist. Things like college, medical school, residency, why you chose dermatology? I’m really curious about those and I’m sure you’d tell it as it is, as always 😂

    I agree on the HL brand! I got introduced to Asian skincare via Korean brands but I found myself gravitating more and more towards the no-nonsense Japanese brands and Hada Labo especially. I have been singing the praise of HL to anyone who would listen! Korean products can be hit and miss, but COSRX remains consistent good value for the money.

    RUclips beauty gurus promote so much misinformation about fancy fragrant skincare, it's so silly. I wish they would be more down to earth and direct their fans to see a dermatologist if they have skin concerns. Thanks for being so honest! I tried as a sample of a Paula's Choice cleaning oil and my skin has reacted terribly, I should have stuck to the Hada Labo cleansing oil you recommended!

    • @cheesepuff87
      @cheesepuff87 6 лет назад

      It's the only thing I changed in my routine and I am suffering hehe. I got a sample of a cleansing oil and I think it said it contained sunflower and coconut oil on the packet. I was hesitant when I saw that, then I said eff it and tried it anyway!

    Well I must be honest and tell you that you're the only youtuber/media person that I trust now! I was overhyped by some major RUclips/ blogger persons that were giving the world all the skincare/ beauty jargon that I sank into my brain & went to them for any recommendations that they put out there, mainly they were Clinique, lancome, pixi beauty etc... To name a few & they claimed they worked in retail & skincare for decades etc... But really they were just money mongering me! I've learnt from your channel the facts & truths from you who actually works as a dermatologist so I'm glad I've found you and you're my go-to person who look for recommendations for any skincare etc... As I know that you know what you're talking about and you're not just after my money LOL 🤣 Thank you so much for being so honest and keep on giving us the truth, I highly appreciate it 👌👍😘

      I have changed my thinking so much. I had nice skin using otc products. I'm not listening & watching many beauty videos. I unfortunately was damaged badly by drs, & surgeons. It's a long story. I had a stranger tell me I had beautiful skin. Since the damage to me & separation from my only son & now 2 grand children I was pleased. I need to forgive this one surgeon especially but every one had a roll to play. How much can you talk about skin products & make-up? One was talking about medical grade & putting the rest down. Women in their 40's & 50's were talking about their "mature" skin. I shook my head. Thanks Andrea for your advise & making me laugh. :)

    I've used their red line ( alpha ), the blue line ( brightening and reducing hyperpigmentation), and the gold line (which the perfect gel is part of) I love all of them! I use the blue hydrating toner (humectant), the gold emulsion as a light moisturizer for the summer ,and the red one has a moisturizing cream in a tub that I use at night. Hada Labo also has a sensitive skin line (ES) that I want to try.

      Hi, did you get this ES line on Amazon as I’m in Australia. l don’t use make-up but l’d find a sensitive skin line helpful for removing sunscreen, and as a humectant.

    • @el3404

      Jeannie Wilson I use Google translate and buy it from Amazon Japan. They ship internationally to me (usa). The ES line product that is a humectant is a hydrating toner in a bottle, the one in a tub is the moisturizing cream.

    I am so glad I found your channel! I used to think I needed an expensive serum, eye cream, face wash, toner and moisturizer because of what other RUclipsrs have told me. I also used to think I needed everything natural which I have learned can actually be harmful. Now I use all cerave mostly because I have very severe eczema that leaves my skin basically raw! I also have very dry, sensitive acne prone skin (yay me right? Lol) I get shots for my eczema but I still struggle quite a bit because of my nickel allergy and my work pants have the little metal buttons on them that cause my skin to flare even when covered with another fabric. I had no idea my moisturizers (face and body) had fragrance in them and it was making my skin worse! I cannot thank you enough for educating all of us on what the real deal is. Maybe you could make a blog over some videos you have made for easy reference for your viewers? I can’t wait to try the gel cream next!

    Finally a review & demo in English! I've been having difficulty looking for video reviews of the perfect gel. Most of what I found here on RUclips were in Chinese and Thai. I bought the HL UV Perfect Gel (SPF 50 PA++++) for the day and HL Whitening Perfect Gel for the evening. Both of them cost me only a fraction of a single French-sounding moisturizer. The Ordinary's NMF + HA is also another affordable alternative, but not as fun and motivating to apply than Hada Labo.

    Hada labo is a really popular skincare brand in asia. Not just in Japan but in other asian countries as well. They can be easily found in drugstores and are relatively affordable. Hada labo is most famous for its hyaluronic acid toner. That particular product went viral in asia upon its release. Hada labo is a skincare brand that emphasizes the importance of moisture and all their products revolve around hyaluronic acid. It is such a popular brand that they have famous asian actresses as spokespeople, appearing in ads and on its packaging. Regarding fragrance in its products, hada labo seems to label them "fragrance free" but from my observations, there are a few products that contains essential oils. They have a different range of products to target different skin needs such as anti aging, whitening and oil control. However, i personally feel that the basic moisture range is the one with the least garbage ingredients in it.

    The hadalabo skin plumping gel cream as well as the neutrogena hyroboost extra-dry are a little more expensive (per fl. oz) but this gel cream is much cheaper. I would go for this one as soon as I finish off my hydroboost. Thanks a lot for reviewing this!

I have added the Hada Labo gel (masks & oil) into my skincare routine a month ago after using several expensive brands over the past 2 years and am pleasantly surprised at the good moisture results this brand provides for the cost! I have raved about you (and your channel) to my sister and she has come on board! Next product on order is the Hada Labo Skin lab Gokujun UV white gel (SPF50 + PA ++++) :)

    Pleaaasses do a vid exposing high end cosmetic brands that are pushed by social media influencers like glam glow, la mer, drunk elephant, and farsali to name a few! Not all products but just the ones that are heavily pushed to impressionable young people who spend hundreds of dollars on unnecessary things! I for instance was one of them and wasted a lot of money and did nothing for my skin! I just didn’t know any better ):

    I’m studying to be an esthetician and I find your videos very educational! My school is partnered with Dermalogica and I found their products to be very irritating. They consist mostly of plant, flower, leaf extracts and oils. Made my face really itchy, inflamed and dry so I had to stop using it. My boyfriend loves the calming line for sensitive skin but they still contain those plant extracts. Do plant extracts strip the barrier of the skin or cause any harm??

    Hi,
    I use the Hada Labo brightening line with alpha arbutin. It comes in the blue packaging. I have the watery lotion and the creamy lotion. Watery goes on first and creamy second. I use these after cleansing. I have had light freckles since childhood and other general sun damage. I have seen an overall improvement in the evening of my skin tone, fading of freckles and hyperpigmentation. I’ve been using these for around two months. In addition, I love the feel of the products. They feel soothing and gentle with no fragrance. I recommend!

    So after Dr. Dray's last video I saw, I was still getting over how greasy the mineral sunscreen I bought was. It was a 20 percent zinc one and I turned white and It was like using makeup. Anyways you sold me on the sunscreen and I bought the hyaluronic lotion, along with a cream cleanser for my mom who is a bar soap face cleanser and im trying to ease her gently off. Its worth every penny. I was shooketh. I read on "50 shades of Snails" that hada labo is a colaboration of Rhoto the eyedrop company and Mentholatum which aparently is some sort of vapor rub. Also hada = skin and labo= lab. The first thing I thought after using their products was that if they added a heavy fragrance this would be at Macys for a zillion dollars and it would be half the size. I had this moment of astonishment that one rarely gets when you realize something is really nice and realize how big the world is and now you know a secret. These chemists in japan really have an elegant but consumer friendly skincare solution. My teenage self had cystic acne and I was obliterating my face with hype marketing that I really still am upset about. I have icepick scars to prove it. I never guessed that stripping the oils was making them come back in full force. I thought Cetaphil was as good as It got but I really do apreciate this RUclips Channel.

    I'm so glad you like the gold pot! They are identical product, but the white pot is formulated for the US market, the gold is for the Japanese market. As for the Daiso mask - mine only covers the center of my face, and I had to put hair bands in the ear loops to extend it. I'm pretty jealous it fits you so well. Keep on rockin' Doc! "....................................PS - I take my products that are in the pots, and dump them into airless/refillable pump bottles that I get off eBay - can get a wide variety, and it makes using the products SO. MUCH. NICER.! No more unscrewing tops, scooping stuff out, putting tops back on, etc... - if I get a pump bottle that doesn't hold all the product, I put the remainder in the fridge and use it as a refill. Makes my counter less cluttered too, and everything is ready to be packed for when I need to travel.

    After using Juice Beauty, I shifted to the entire shirojyun line of hada labo, the whitening one (blue bottles). I use the lotion, serum, milk and the sunscreen. 🙄 It’s a lot actually. Sometimes I use the face mask even. I’m equipped. Lol. It works for my acne prone oily oily oily skin. I have noticed subtle brightening changes after 1 month of usage. More noticeable after washing the face actually. Maybe due to the illusion just like you said in this video. It has moisturized my skin making it look smoother. Despite moisture, it doesn’t make my skin look oily at all! Less breakouts even! I’m more confident now without make up. It is also more affordable than US brands that’s why I was able to afford the entire line. Will probably try their anti-aging line with retinol (pink bottles) or the anti-acne line or the gold one! Or their AHA BHA line. Glad you’re delving deeper into the hada labo products now! You were the one who actually introduced Hada Labo to me. Lol. Can’t wait for more hada labo reviews from you!

    Hada Labo used to be very big when it first launched back in 2008, their ad was very prominent during my middle school years. It always feature a fair skinned lady patting her skin away with the Hada Labo HA lotion, with their tag line '肌に こと 肌ラボ'. I've tried the Arbutin line before but it didn't bode well with my skin, tried other lines with Arbutin in them (The Ordinary) and that went bad as well, so I suppose my skin cannot tolerate the skin lightening ingredient!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 лет назад +3

      arbutin is similar to hydroquinone...i dont feel great about it in alot of the products (like face lotions/moisturizers/masks), because it, like hydroquinone, really should just go on areas of hyperpigmentation, and not on unaffected skin

    About things being in jars! I use the big Nivea blue tin and it is a bigger jar at 250ml (I would get the 400ml, but it doesn't fit on my sink), but I have no issues with it (neither do I have issues with the fragrance, thank goodness). I find it hygienic enough for my tastes, and I am the only one dipping my finger in anyway. Most of my skin care comes in jars. It is what it is.

    DR DRAY!!! - I have a couple of really important questions for you that I only trust you with.
    1) Do 100% physical/mineral sunscreens have to be reapplied throughout the day? Some people say they don't (whereas sunscreens with chemical filters do.) This is what I'm reading from several sources.
    2) What do you think of copper peptides? I know you have commented on peptides in general but I was really hoping you could do a video on copper peptides, or include the topic in one of your Q and As. Unlike most other skincare ingredients, they do seem to have some sound research behind them!
