Japanese skincare was my favorite years ago because I felt Japanese skincare was more evidence based. Korean skincare, to me, was more concerned about making "trendy" and fun skincare whether it be the packaging or formulation. Korean skincare has gotten better over the years so now I use a mix of both, but I do prefer to stick to the minimal steps
I agree u. I feel like korean skincare are overall more expensive than what they worth. They are still affordable, but they made me feel a lot of their budget goes to the marketing, advertising and packaging, while for japanese skincare, it feels like they don’t spend much in the marketing and stuff, no fancy packaging, we can easily find them in drugstore in Japan in the most plain display, which made me think most of the money they earned from these product goes to the R&D
I agree as well, the best of the best from 10 years ago in the Japanese market are still staple products that are loved even today. Melano C Serum, Hada Labo Gokujyun Cleansing Oil, and more. Even the Kose Softymo has been a staple for years!
Yes, please! Do more JP beauty skincare. I love my KR skincare too but my skin gets much better results with JP products and JP products are my trusted ones when I go for long trips and need skincare that won't fail me.
As a acne pore skin person I have been using DHC’s Deep cleansing oil since last 6 months and Ngl it’s works really good like other Korean cleansing oils And most importantly it’s pretty affordable. One 120ml’s bottle goes for 5 months straight so imo it’s worth it to try
As someone with acne-prone skin, the Lion Pair Acne cream was godsent! I get really painful cystic acne when it's the time of the month, heck, I even get blind cyctic acne. I can only get them extracted before, this heals them!!!!
About 15 years ago, a Japanese friend of mine told me to start doing skincare with double cleansing, toner/lotion, moisturiser and sunscreen. That was the best skincare advice I had. Now my skin is resilient and healthy in my mid 30s with such simple skincare routine. For double cleansing, the oil should be applied on dry skin and gently massaged on your skin in circular motions, then emulsified with some water and again more massage. Step 2 usually involves a foaming cleanser that lathers a lot, I mean very thick foam that you create with your hand or using a foaming net. You only need to do double cleaning at night. In the morning, just foam cleanser is fine, or even no cleansers if where you live doesn’t suffer from air pollution or humidity. Use cold water. Dry your face with clean facial towel by gently dabbing it on your face. Do not rub or do anything else. Use a dedicated towel for your face and change it regularly. I like Japanese skincare over Korean because they seem to focus more on hydration. Also I didn’t really hear much about double cleansing (using oil cleanser in step 1) in Korean skincare until recent years.
I recently been obsessed with Japanese skincare and I have use about 7/10 items you mention above as well as bought to try the hair mask. Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks Jenny. Please do more video on mid range or higher price skin care products for very mature skin especially on hydration lotion and night cream 🇨🇦
Nice to see you covering J Beauty products. I've always find J Beauty products a lot better than K Beauty ones. I've rarely had to deal with allergic reactions and overly fragranced products when buying J Beauty compared to K Beauty. The ingredients are also much more grounded and gives me much better results. Unfortunately, it's not as well known outside of the Asian community, and over shadowed by a lot of the (overrated) K Beauty hype.
Thank you for your video!! It’s so educational. I love that you’re reviewing viral products. I often wonder what the benefits are and how it would help my skin so I really appreciate this video. Can’t wait to see more!!!
Thanks for this!! Two questions: 1. How to incorporate the face mask in a nighttime routine that includes applying tretinoin? 2. Do you use the hair mask before or after shampooing?
I'm living in Japan and tried 7/10 of these products, and none of them did disappoint, although the CC serum has a texture that I personally don't enjoy so much. I especially like the Shiseido Fino hair mask (my hair is fine and does not leave ir greasy at all, which is usually my main concern), the Hada Labo Premium Line and the Biore SPF, which I use every day, every season. Thanks for your detailed explanations
So excited when I saw this in my notifications as previous recommendations have been wonderful. Can’t wait to pick up a few of these -much appreciation as always!
I looked at the ingredients and lanolin oil is the first one. That's where most of the magic is. Pure lanolin is my holy grail for anything that needs deep repair, especially chapped and peeling lips.
Other Japanese sunscreens to check out are Omi Verdio Gel Sunscreen (it comes in a 220g bottle) and there's the Nivea that comes in a 140g bottle and there are the sunscreens from Kumano Hatomugi. Also, have you heard about mascara removers? There's one from ISEHAN KissMe Speedy Mascara remover.
The Cure gel sounds very interesting! I’d love if u could do a rec products for inflamed skin. I know everyone rec La Roche Posay Cica and find it okay but am curious about other products. It’s hard to find the balance when u have dermatitis but also get clogged pores easily.
I cannot recommend Biore sunscreens enough! I've been using them even before K-beauty first started making waves more than a decade ago, and I'd never swap them for any Korean (or US or EU) sunscreen. They have saved my skin every summer, they're my sole sun protection for weeklong surfing/beach trips, sometimes I even forget to reapply, but even an application in the morning saves me from severe sun damage. I've literally forgotten the feeling of being sunburned, and I cringe when I see my friends/coworkers slather on their goopy sunscreens, only to end up with red, peeling shoulders/faces. If you can get your hands on it, at least try it.
Thanks for covering J Beauty!! it does not get enough love, they developed the steps before K Beauty was a thing. I started as a teen on Shiseido (many many years ago) and still use many of the products. I also use the various Biore sunscreens, and Skin Aquas. I use the cleansing oils, and the Fino hair mask.....all great quality and excellent value. My regular daily driver is the Kikumasamune Lotions, I use the pink for the body, and the white for the face. Its my first step in my twice daily routine after cleansing, Kojic Acid (naturally in sake), Arbutin, Licorice, all skin brightening ingredients. I use the pink one winter, very hydrating and moisturizing and the white one, lighter and perfect for summer.. Its a huge bottle for under $15. I'm going to try the Naturie Moisturizer you mentioned, I love THD. and I love J Beauty,
@@anastasiam1797 The Japanese like to use Kojic Acid, Arbutin (a precursor that converts to hydroquinone in the skin) Coix seed, and vitamin C. Vitamin C is also excellent, and Dr. Liu mentioned Melano CC, and the Naturie Hatomagi moisturizer which has an excellent Vitamin C derivative that is gentler called THD. I'm not Japanese so I don't know that many products, but hopefully that will get you started 😃

I also use tsubaky volume and repair shampoo and conditioner and the kaminomoto medicated shampoo (I have seborrheic dermatitis). I have the fino but I think is less impressive of other mask I have... maybe because I leave it on for few minutes and not 20. I have to try!
Thanks Dr. Liu on discussing more in depth on these products! :) It can overtimes get overwhelming. I am trying to reduce the number of products and focus on the ones that effectively help and nourish my skin.
The Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil is excellent. I tried the original version but it didn't work as efficiently as I expected, plus it triggered breakouts. The 'pink one' is much better, I'm so glad I gave it a try. The Hada Labo Premium essence lotion has 8 different types of hyaluronic acid so sometimes it's more than enough hydration. Great recommendation, as is the rice sheet mask you included! I love these sorts of videos, especially from professionally qualified experienced people AND people who are genuine and enthusiastic about what they're recommending. Without RUclips I doubt I'd have found even half of the fantastic products I currently use and repurchase. ♥

I love Asian products in general. I love both K beauty and J beauty. I started out with K Beauty because we have a Korean beauty store where I live. But prior to that I was introduced to the world of Shiseido because my family uses that brand since forever. I am so happy to say that the country I live in outside of Japan has a huge Donki and Mitsukiyo store. And now they sell a lot of J Beauty products. My favorite so far are the vitamin c like melano cc, naturie hatomugi, kikumasune varieties, Hada Labo, and so forth. I had to do some ordering online because the popular and trending items even with a lot on stock often times get sold out so fast. Other than that, I am still grateful for thr Japanese stores.
I'm using Biore Aqua Rich Watery Gel , water resistant for 80 mins and a matte finish . The Essense isn't water resistant but so affordable and great protection .
I personally love the one in the dome bottle, its called Protect. Very watery, I drip right onto my face, i spread it and it forms a nice very protective film that feels flexible, and is not matte, but no greasy feel at all! Great review, definitely going to try some products! I love Biore uv cream, it’s the best for combination skin I’ve tried so far, it nourishes but doesn’t make your skin shine and doesn’t peel under makeup! Fino hair mask is amazing, too, although I usually don’t have much time for it and just keep for 5-10 min, I still see great result, I have fine hair, and this mask makes it look polished, healthy and shiny
i have used shiseido fino hair mask and it works good on my frizzy thin hair ...i have tried several others popular mask like tsubaki and karseell mask but fino is best of them ...also the biore sunscreen is wonderful..i would like to watch on high end Japanese beauty thank you ...
Thank you so much for this content! I've been using Korean skincare for almost 3 years now and my skin has never looked this good! I recently made a purchase on YesStyle and saw Japanese products there with really great reviews and bought 3 that will be arriving soon. I want to keep learning more about it, as the fact that is has less steps is very appealing. I would love if you can review or talk about Japanese products for Acne prone, textured skin.
Love Japanese beauty. Thank you for your great review. I have tried most of these. Would love to see your review on high end J beauty to see if it is worth the $$$ and time. Cheers
Love Hadalabo products, especially the Premium Lotion which is my holy grail. I used Origins for many years which left my skin dry and dehydrated. Love Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence too!
I live in Hawaii and I have been using DHC cleansing oil and the Biore sunscreen for several years. Love them both! I recently found the brand Fancl. I am using the face sunscreen and moisturizer for a couple of weeks now and am experiencing good results.
Thanks! Very well explained. I would love to try them but I am 64 and do not know how those products will work for me. My skin do not absorb well the creams, it is awefully dry and lines are coming out!! Can you do something like this for realy mature thristy skin, please? Thank you!
Could you please do a video comparing different Korean essences you recommend that can be multi layered for deep hydration for older skin. Also a video on Korean skin care products for a morning and evening routine to accompany Tazorac use.Thank You
Thank you so much for valuable information. All the products you recommend were “great” and very reasonable. Dermatologists in Japan doesn’t recommend anything and only prescribe pharmaceuticals. 😊
I agree with you on FINO. It needs to be left on as long as you can for it to really do its work. My hair has been bleached 6-7x so this mask really works wonders! My hair looks shiny and feels soft after treatment. Due to the nature of my hair, I do treatments quite often. More than once a week to keep it ok. I also use Loreal Elvive’s Protein Recharge before I dry my hair as it can protect it from heat. I brush it with a boar bristle brush. Next day before heading out, I use a bit of serum. I find Japanese hair care products work better on me than the Korean ones. I do have good experiences with Korean skin care products over Japanese ones. ^^
What moisturizing products would you recommend more dry irritated eczema skin? I am going to try an essence before moisturizing like hado labo or hatomugi because of the natural ingredients
I’ve seen so many people online saying the Kose cleansing oil isn’t good for acne-prone skin because it’s mineral oil-based. Is there any truth to this when used as a first cleanser?
Thank you! Can you suggest products, brands, or ingredients in to look for or avoid for people with cutaneous lupus? I was just diagnosed and I am finding a lot of conflicting information.
