As for the film, “How to Blow Up a Pipeline”, the book it’s based on argues for political violence to force the necessary changes to reshape the global economy and stop the destruction of ecosystems and the killing of innocent people. So far, capitalism has not found a self-corrective way to adequately address ecocide, as evidenced by the UN report that came out this week (IPCC’s AR6) plus decades of similar reports.

Being absent from the system doesn’t make it stop. The US and fossil fuel companies have a vested interest to find more oil and sell it. If change actually wants to happen, action must be taken. Support systems need to be made around the world for those driven out of their countries by increasing natural disasters and work needs to be done to dismantle the sewn in vestiges of imperialism across the developed world. On top of that, the systems that propagate the oil industry need to be dismantled which will likely require retaliation against oil companies and the US. Telling people that the solution is to just walk away and close yourself off instead of fighting means that they will succumb to tyranny that we have been placed under, but with fewer resources to do anything about it.

    1 year old!
Some will see it as terrorism, violence, vandalism but these people see it as self defense and justifiable
This film has underlying themes of using social justice, air pollution, and combating climate change to fight the giant corporations
The movie is full of unknowns, the only person I know is Sasha Lane
We are also given flashbacks to how these people came together with each form of baggage giving them motivation
Their anger is definitely palpable given their generation has been betrayed by ignorance
How long does an issue go unnoticed before it (literally) blows up in your face?
It's unbelievable the pipelines cut right into peoples property not just the indigenous populations and are forced to relocate
The movie is more about the buildup of the attack on the oil refinery rather than getting into the deep, political debates
Not a traditional narrative but will hit so many buttons
Plus it feels rather timely too given the recent events of the new green deal being passed as a rally to call to action

Regardless of the intention there’s no excuse for eco-terrorism, especially not a movie bringing these ideas out in to the public eye. In reality blowing up pipelines hurts regular people, you aren't saving the planet, you are ensuring thousands of countless diesel big rigs are back on the road 24/7 to deliver the same stuff to the same destinations that went through the clean and emission free pipelines.
In return, energy prices go up, inflation worsens, green energy manufacturing and research is held back, EVs get even more expensive and further out of reach to the average person, and oil companies get richer and richer.
