- Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson, billed as Liberation, was a professional boxing match fought on September 7, 1996 for the WBA heavyweight championship.
The fight was part of a pay-per-view event produced by Don King Productions and carried on pay-per-view by Showtime.
The fight is notable in the fact that in attendance was rapper Tupac Shakur, who would be fatally shot just hours after the fight, following an altercation with Crip Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson at the casino. Shakur died six days later on September 13 from ballistic trauma. Спорт
Bruce Seldon felt Mike's power and decided that it was smart to stay down.
Don't act naive as you know nothing about boxing business. It is just like seeing two naked people on the bed. But, they are just friend.
@@itsmeitoldyouthat1448 lol true and don king was a killer, he definitely said sum to him
Same thing thing in the Bowefight. They did not even look like hard shots.
I met Bruce Seldon in Camden NJ, he is big as hell. I wanted to ask if he took a dive during this Tyson fight, but I didn't want to take a dive myself. lol

He also took a dive against Riddick Bowe.

I think anyone would be scared facing MIKE But that looked suspect.
agreed
He can make more money than he would have, but the replay on the big screen can spoil it.😁
Not suspect at all!!! Bruce have no good chin, that's all. And, Mike have strong punch!!! First knock down was combo of right hand and elbow. 2nd was good left hook on Seldon chin! Serbia
I am Mike a follower from Day one I don't remember this fight. Why wasn't it on most of his other (. Mike Tyson Greatest hits ) type videos. Go look at his Documentaries this fight is not on them suspect!

Yeah, for being a real sellout! 👎🏻👎🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻💩💩💩
Yes he did
Bro, fighting Mike was either the end or the end At his peak 😅🤷🏼♂️
Same thing in the Bowe fight. They did not even look like hard shots and again Seldon was KOs in the first round.
When the prefight intros took longer than the fight.
Only in Tyson fights lol.
You can hear 2pacs song Road 2 Glory when Mike enters, the song he wrote and recorded for Mike the day before the fight. RIP MAKAVELI
Actually, Road to Glory was played when Mike Tyson fought Frank Bruno in March 1996. Pac wrote "Lets Get in on" when he fought Bruce Seldon.
imagine Bruce doing all that training to then dive lol
He did what he was paid to do
Man he wasn't even dazed. Lol ole Don King did his Thang again.
@@uberdriver5711 are you suggesting Don King arranged for Seldon to take a dive? Do you really believe someone needs to be paid in order to take a dive against Mike Tyson???
@@Screencappedhats yes in those times. The fight game was dirty.
I dont believe the fight was fixed but Seldon definitely took a dive. And it hurt Tyson because Tyson needed those rounds to get his timing down and get used to getting hit again after his long layoff from prison.
Till this day I still think Bruce Seldon took a dive in this fight
it was a ten even by the Russian judge.
He took a dive alright lol MF dove straight to the canvas
Seldon and the ref made too many excuses and talked too much. That’s what makes my antennas raise.
YEAH NO SHIT BOSS
No doubt. He was terrified, and wanted to get out of there without getting hurt.
The good ol days when the introduction would last longer than the fight 😂
For some reason i miss it
Don King will pay anyone $10 if they will sing the national anthem.
😂😂😂😂
He felt the power he was like I'm done I'll just go down. He was afraid from the beginning I could see it in the staredown

There are not many fight vids where I watch it and think ‘I could do better’…and I can’t even fight… this is one of them..
Seldon took a dive. He was one of the worst heavyweight champions is boxing history.
Seldon was scared to death, that’s why he faked it. He didn’t want to get hurt by Tyson.
This was sad to watch, because this is the night we lost one of the greatest rap artist in the game… 😞

Not sure if this was a dive or if Seldon was scared shitless and wanted out of there before he got hurt.
Definitely a fix to get Tyson and Holyfield fight. Four fighters were knocked out by phantom punches in route to the Holyfield fight. Remember too. Tyson was making his comeback from a prison sentence
Probably both 😅
@@michaeljohnson8971 Yeah even if it's a fix I would still be scared shitless even standing in the ring with Tyson 😂😂💯
Tyson was just to op no fix kids
Obviously he shit himself..100%
The worst thing is that Mike needed the rounds and the challenge to get himself back in to championship condition for the challenges ahead. He gassed out against Holyfield because he hadn't been properly pushed in fights leading up to his duel with the Real Deal. By the time he faced Lewis he was done as an elite level fighter.
Tyson was done by 1991! In fact as soon as he got rid of Rooney after the Spinks fight in 88 was the beginning of the end.
Stamina was not Tyson’s issue against Holyfield in either fight. It was evident during their first fight in 96 Tyson represented a more static fighter than he had been in his prime. In his prime Tyson used lots of movement, both head and body movement to evade punches and create multiple angles for attack. That, along with his powerful combination punching, especially his hooks and uppercuts made him a formidable foe.
Against Holyfield he had no real movement and threw single punches. He barely used his jab to work his way in. The second fight would have gone the same way had he not got himself disqualified. Although Holyfields head butting has to be called out, it wasn’t the primary reason for his first loss.
Then we have Tyson mentality. He was mentally fragile when faced with any serious opposition and never had a plan B as rarely needed it during the first part of his career!
@Its_Rick_James_Bi*ch I agree with everything you say, but I still don't think Mike would've lost against either Holyfield or Lewis had he been in condition, at least the condition he was in with Rooney. Mike was not susceptible to single shots to take him out. He was too strong and could absorb then. Had he been in condition he'd have outworked Holyfield, and probably Lewis, though without a doubt his leaving behind the head movement and side 2 side footwork and positioning, the opening up of multiple attacks etc, left him vulnerable.
It is a pity, he definitely fell short of his potential.
@@antoineofionnagain3113 Tyson would not have beaten Holyfield in either fight even if he was in better condition! Although he wasn’t in bad condition in either fight! Seldon fight aside, he looked impressive against Bruno despite Bruno looking scared!
Now, had he fought Holyfield in 92 (had he not caught that case) it’s debatable whether he would have given a stronger showing, but Holyfield of 92 despite losing to Bowe was even better than in 96 and 97!
And although Tyson didn’t focus on training for the Lewis fight in 2002 (he didn’t push himself in his training camp in Hawaii)..he still would not have had the movement to evade Lewis’s jab and get inside, which was his only chance of landing a big uppercut to trouble Lewis. Was never gonna happen!
@@antoineofionnagain3113 and lastly Holyfield in 96 wasn’t in great condition either! He’d suffered heart problems in 94 in his loss to Moorer. Then was brutally KO’d by Bowe in 95. Looked ordinary is his next fight before facing Tyson.
@@its_rick_james_bich2575 no Rooney , no victory!

Bruce Seldon reminds me of the people I work with; Doing as little as humanly possible to get paid. Seldon didn't come to fight. If I was fighting Mike Tyson in front of millions, I'd just go out on my shield, even if I got knocked out cold.

@travzimmerman1340 It's possible. I think he got hit by Tyson and said "No way." Tyson was still a huge puncher at this point. He just abandoned technique.
Seldon embarrassed the shit out of himself
22:48 I had reflux and peed my pants when I heard him sing the national anthem
People were just different back then.
If Seldon had a chin and heart he had the skills to be something special
And better stamina
Commentator trying to save face. He knows what this fight was about
We all can agree, that tyson accepted hollyfield's reclamation well. 🤣
#RIPPAC....The night that Deathrow Records officially died.
All the anticipation before these fights used to last around two hours, the walk down into the ring from both fighters, all the chitter chatter from the so called experts at ringside, the national anthem, the introduction and the whole bit and then fight is over in around two minutes..
This was one of Tyson’s most “street fight” fights - minimal strategy, minimal defense, minimal (legitimate) boxing technique.
And we’ve seen far too many first round KOs, one-punch KOs, *_FIRST_* punch KOs, body shot KOs & glancing blows KOs from Tyson for there to be so much ‘controversy’ surrounding this match:
28:44 Left hook to Seldon’s GLOVE! *_(strong enough to make Seldon hit himself in the chin & send him stumbling into the ropes)_*
29:09 Left hook to Seldon’s GLOVE! *_(The sound is more impactful than Seldon’s straight jab to Tyson’s head at _**_29:08_**_. Look at Seldon’s eyes! He hit him in the glove & scared him to death)_*
29:42 straight jab to the heart/left ribcage *_(& we’ve seen MANY professional fighters get dropped by one of Mike’s body shots. Look at Seldon’s eyes! It was all he could do to lean in & wrap up)_*
29:48 haymaker right *_(contact was flush THEN skated across the top of his head; FLUSH…then skated)_*
30:10 left hook to the jaw/chin *_(Seldon feet were not under him & his only defense was to lean backwards trying to dodge Tyson’s delivery - just couldn’t move far enough or quick enough)_*
If he took a dive -
so did the other 44 fighters (38 by KO) that Tyson punished prior to this fight😅
2pac
That singer was brutal so bad 😂

"Get to the canvas as quick as credibly possible,"
That's why Seldon was so relaxed.

Its obvious this Mike was not the one when trained by Kevin Rooney. After Kevin his career went down like a roller-coaster.
I have watched that punch that "landed" on Seldon, and he looked like he took a serious dive. I remember watching this fight live and dying laughing.
SHELDON WAS NERVOUS AND PANICS BEFORE RING BELL RINGING
That documentary on this fight and Tu Pac's murder after this fight was really good. Wish it was on here.
This fight led to Tupacs death. The crowd was so angry a REAL fight broke out
Mike hit you he hittin wit his whole body. Boxing ain't what it used to be.
You see that Tyson brotherly love after he went down second time? That’s why I will always respect him.
butterfly effect: If Bruce Seldom held up for ever so slightly longer, and then prolonged the fight for even just a few seconds longer-would Tupac be alive today?
mike tyson heavy puncher but here where did he punch and why did the opponent fall? still am wondering how?
This was rigged I think it's pretty obvious
There is a difference between rigged and someone taking a dive. They did not need to pay Bruce Seldon to lose, he could never beat Mike Tyson. In my opinion it was just an act of cowardice and he collapsed from fear.
Bruce Seldon had a glass chin. That's the worst negative a prizefighter could have
Mike Tyson the most exciting fighter in the last 30 years
Wait so if Bruce didnt dive & the fight stayed on then maybe Pac wouldnt have died
That’s a big maybe
The day we lost one of the best rappers in its history. Tupac got shot and died.
This is why Tyson got dominated by Holyfield. You fix a bunch of fights post prison. Then, all of a sudden, he had a real one and got bullied.
Cause I damn sure believe to this very day that Seldon fight was fixed.
Tyson post-prison was too slow. And way weakear than before. I cant imagine the 91 Tyson who fought Ruddock being this weak. Much les the 86 Tyson. Holyfield was always dangerous for Mike anyway. But Mike had legit chances then.
The brotha singing the anthem was trying to add too much Brian McKnight into it, and didn't have the chops to pull it off. Should have just performed it straight and held the notes longer.
Yeah, that was bad.....they said he signed to Horne Records, which was probably owned by John Horne, one of Tysons' handlers. Probably how he got the gig. But it probably the worst I've ever heard.
@@CLC407 He was doing okay, until he starting to oversing it.
He was grateful to fight Mike and earn money to feed his family.
yo quiero que algún experto en boxeo me explique cual fue el golpe del nocau porque yo no vi nada
"The Atlantic City Express" Bruce Seldon had an incredible jab. That jab could rival any great HW jab. He really had to work hard to get back into title contention and won the WBA world title as 2# ranked in 1995. But, seeing this fight as I have 20-30 times over the years, I just can't walk away from the possibility that Seldon took a paid dive, and I 100% know this is universally the opinion!
I mean his nerves can't have been that "shot" at his experienced level of professional boxing as a defending WBA champion (?). Because he took no clean hits and when you don't take any clean hits, you get per automatic suspicions of throwing the fight with no intentions of trying to win it.
And we all ask WHY? Why just throw away your championship like that with-out even attempting to win? Against an opponent who was not only a greater boxewr but also from the gate the BIG player and favourite to win? Tyson was despite being the challanger the biggest paid man that night - Defending champion got $5 million but challanger Tyson got $15 million (!).
So "if" Seldon took a dive and gave up of being the champion - then how much did he sold out for? What was the amount of money he got for taking a dive in 1st round knock-out loss and looking like a major quitter after taking no clean punches?
I guess we will never find out with any valid evidences to support the claims..... boxing have always been dirty business.
WHATS THE SONG OF SELDON ENTRANCE?
Some humans handle fear in different ways....
One of the only fights I haven’t watched in its entirety and it’s a 50min video. I expected an exciting, deep round fight, but of course it’s a round 1 knockout lol
*You can't fake it. Mike Tyson exposed real from fake boxers 🥊🥊.*

The hair punch
How many time is Bobby Cycz gonna say, " He hit him on the top of his head" before he convinces himself that, "He hit him on top of his head".
Tysons head movement wasn’t the same you could just tell.
