That last line where she's stares blankly at the camera is total comedy perfection. Absolutely brilliant. Do we have any comedy actors of this calibre these days?
The "Kitty" segments are perfection. Victoria Woods" writing and Patricia Routledge's comic timing, they never fail to make me laugh. Theres so much wrong with the world today and I'm as much to blame as anyone as I dont peg enough out!
It's sherry, not wine.... Typical drink in the 1960s, 70s, 80s for older ladies. Usually drunk in very small portions, two or three glasses would get a little old lady quite tipsy....
So tempting to recreate Kitty's lair for my next Zoom call. Floral bouquet, well polished side tables, lamp, knick-knacks and a glass of sherry. I can just flop into the chair from stage left with two bags of shopping and say "I can't stay long". Weirdly, it all begins to look much more exotic and exciting than the identikit "tastefulness" of the average 2020s interior.
This is priceless and timeless. For anybody who *still* labours under the misapprehension that women "don't do comedy," or "aren't funny" could do no better than to trawl the Victoria Wood archives. She was funny and surrounded herself with very talented co-actors who obviously *loved* working with her!
I can never understand that "women can't do comedy" thing. The Music Halls of the 1880s onwards were full of funny women. Vesta Tilley, Florrie Forde, Gertie Gitana, the incomparable Marie Lloyd. In the early to mid 20th century we had Nellie Wallace, Joyce Grenfell, Lucille Ball, etc.
Just delicious comedy, but what makes it phenomenal is that in the north of England (where I'm from) this kind of conversation actually happens!Amazing writing by the late and great Victoria Wood and superb acting (as usual) from Patricia routledge
@@rosies3622 I too am from the North (and live near Cheadle and Didsbury lol) and this made me howl....She was also brilliant in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, a Lady of Letters...I agree x
I love this absolutely brilliant, Dame Patricia Routledge has a wonderful voice, you certainly sit up and take notice. such a great script brilliantly written by the great late Victoria Wood, R.IP.. Dame Patricia Routledge is a SUPERB talented classy performer.
Oh my gosh! My husband and I love all these "Kitty" videos! Hysterical. Thanks for all four! "We shall have fog by teatime," what a talent and gift Dame Routledge was.
I grew up with “keeping up appearances”, this is the first time I’ve seen “kitty” and it’s hilarious! Some of the things she’s saying makes sense now…yeah, let’s turn number 10 into a leisure centre! 😂 brilliant!
Hyacinth Bucket coming to form. She was hilarious to those familiar with British society as you'd always have a lady like that on your street. Patricia Routledge micky taked it to a tea and biscuits. One of the funniest ladies on tv in the 90s.
WOW having lived in the English speaking work for nearly 48 years married to a Yank and living in Canada for 45 years I did not understand half of what she just said. hahahhahhahahahahaha ONE must love the English:))
The only time you'll hear Patricia say "bucket" 🤣
Right?

"Can you really respect a nation that's never taken to cutlery?"

Patricia Rutledge is British National treasure... Her humor is just subtle but hilarious.

It's alright leave the bottle ....what a Classic 😂
