I have this same problem along with my uncles brick walkway/path, entrance to his front door. It's uneven in a few areas. This video is easy and helpful in what needs to be done. Wish me luck in my repairs. Thanks again!
I feel your pain. We have moles, but I don’t think they caused our problem. Our patio is raised. But those moles do a number on the lawn. It gets pretty squishy in places. Thank you for the comment!
I have the same issue from my patio. I caught something, not sure what it was, could be a mole or chipmunks, its tunneling from underneath. I plan on tackling this project as well. Wish me luck! This video helps!
This was a nice fix but I think it would have helped if you could have explained what it is you were doing as you relaid the blocks as you obviously saw some that needed more sand etc. A little commentary during the relaying rather than just speeded up footage of the whole thing really aids the viewer to understand and learn from your expertise. Thanks for posting though as I'm sure it will encourage others to have a go themselves.
Just completed a similar job, but with 3 sizes of irregular surfaced flag stones. This means adding sand and making a flat subbase would not always work. When there's missing mortar between stones, also an issue. Great video, thx.
Was just about to do this at my place. Glad I watched your concise video. Picked up some nuances with smoothing the sand. Thanks you, liked & subbed 🤛😎
Thanks for a great compliment! The hardest parts are removing the first paver when you start and placing the last one when you are finished. In the middle, I think it is almost as easy at it may have seemed.
Questions. Does sand invite the ants, In the past, I have used screenings? Is there a reason some sink while others do not. If say a draining issue, would a barrier or something be needed or would it not just happen again. Let me know if you have anything on righting a very short wall lean. Contractors want way too much for fairly small job. I have some ideas but would like to bounce.
Looking for a recommendation...I have some pavers I need to reset to level. I also want to power wash the entire patio and refill joints with polymeric sand. Wondering the order I should do things. Should I do the power wash on the entire patio first, then reset the sunken pavers? Or reset pavers and then power wash? Of course, the polymeric sand would be the final step.
You should power wash first... because the sand in between the pavers will be blasted out anyways. Power washing afterwards will still require you to fill in the sand afterwards anyways. Why do the work twice?
A little bit, but nothing major. That area is really the only spot the pavers sank. The patio was here when we bought the house. I love the look, but I would have done it a bit differently if I had put it in.
Not really. There is already missing material under the deck. We have a mole/erosion problem where I live. So I need to add material to that spot where it has gone away. Under the sand is a stone layer that is compacted. Then the sand on top. The sand is one of the keys to making the deck level.
lol. I know. Gutters were on the list. We had them redone last fall. Thank you for the compliment on the pavers and thanks for watching! Please consider subscribing!
Hi Kevin. Thanks for your video. I have couple of questions. Which tools do you suggest to buy? I am not a tool "woman". Is there a brand of sand that you recommend? I also have pavers sliding down due to a new fence we put last year. How do I level those?
Before I begin, this is what I did to lift a few pavers for a patio. It would not be strong enough for a driveway. I used a couple of flat head screw drivers to pry out a couple of the pavers. Used a generic sand that said it was good for pavers on its packaging. This went under the pavers. Use "polymeric sand" for the joints. After I placed the pavers, I used a rubber mallet to give them a few taps. Unfortunately, I haven't dealt with pavers near a fence. Not sure how to tackle that problem. I have a paver landing at the bottom of the stairs on the patio where the edges are sinking because the retaining piece has come loose. I'll try to make a video about that repair. It may give you some insight. Thank you for watching and the compliment! If you haven't already, please consider subscribing!
Could be any number of reasons. We have moles and before our gutters were replaced, a lot of water would be dumped close to that area. There’s a couple of potential factors. However, after a year and a half, the repair seems to be holding up well. I sort of expect to have that entire patio surface redone in a few years. There is a paver apron at the bottom of one set of stairs that the mole activity really did some disruption.
It was literally called “Play Sand.” I found it at either Home Depot or Lowe’s and on the bag it said it was good for pavers. That was the sand the pavers sat on top of. The sand for the seams is called “polymeric sand.” It helps lock all the pavers together. Good luck with your project!
Thanks for the help I will be fixing my pavers this weekend
Looks like exactly what I need to do on a small area that had sunken slightly. Thanks

Thanks again!
Thanks! Very helpful. Gives me confidence I can do this!
I will be tackling this project come Spring. My sunken pavers were caused by rodents tunneling from underneath. Thanks for the video!
I feel your pain. We have moles, but I don’t think they caused our problem. Our patio is raised. But those moles do a number on the lawn. It gets pretty squishy in places. Thank you for the comment!
They are moles causing the damage. I trapped several since late fall and live near a wooded area. Mother Nature is defeating me!
Stay strong! That repair didn’t take very long and it made my wife very happy!
Ugh! This is my probelm too. I have chipmunks... ugh

Looks great I would suggest using stone dust instead of sand it's holds stronger and wouldn't allow bugs like ants to live in it.
Where can you buy stone dust from?

Thank you for the video a young diy here now I feel confident about this project at home 😅
Hey Kevin! I was looking for a video on this… and I ran into you, another Kev from a Cave! Small World! 🌎
Thanks Kevin. You made this beginner friendly.
You have to use paver sand or crushed stone dust it’s called. That’s just regular sand.
Thanks for sharing. Other than for identifying the problem area, was there another reason for chalking out the stones?
I like this video. Thank you for sharing

Thank you for watching and subscribing! Hope your project goes smoothly!
The Project Cave thanks went really well! It’s not just saving money but feeling great about learning something new!
Thank you. Very useful, Kevin
!
What the heck did you do? I agree provide some commentary so it can be helpful! What did you add, sand or lime?
Nice!! Exactly what I need to get done.
Hope it helps!
Thank you. I need to fix my pavers and this was super helpful.
Very helpful I have a drive to repair got the tools and materials ready to with your help.
Mine is a patio. Driveways have to handle the car. The hand tamping of the sand is probably not enough.
@@TheProjectCave Thank you for that I bought a Hawksmoor Tamper 200 x 200mm yesterday hopping that will do it £33 TOOLSTATION it is a small area.
You make it look so easy bro!

How did you know what order to reinstall the pavers in. Does it make a difference what order you reinstall them?
Thank you for sharing, a very helpful video, Sir!

Great tip, I will have to try this. Looks very easy.

barfman7767 Yes, after some thinking, I came to that conclusion as well 😊
Fabulous easy video. Will repair my walkway this weekend.
Nice and clear. Thanks
Excellent work!
Thanks man!!! Very Helpful
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Looked like you were using Quikrete and not sand. Am I wrong?
Nice video Kevin..I have almost exactly the same issue. Thanks for the tips.
Nice! Thanks
Great job
Thank you for watching! Sorry for the delayed reply!
Did u have any drainage issues or ponding water prior

The Project Cave right on
Could this also be done by just scooping out the excess dirt, smoothing it out and placing the bricks back? Not trying to be an ass serious question

Thanks!
Hi, what type of sand Did you use?
Why sand over screening ?
Great video. Straight to the point. Very useful. Thank you.
U da man. Great job!!
Thank you! Just having fun learning, figuring things out, and doing!
Do you know why it's sagging like this?
