- Here's a quick cover I threw together of one of my all time favorite Children of Bodom songs, and had to use my ESP RL for the accurate tone! Not a perfect take by any means but wanted to try and capture the whole performance in it's raw form, hope you enjoy!

This has to be one of the best covers on youtube.Your playing and tone are ridiculously good! Subscribed!
Thanks so much I really appreciate the kind words! 🙏
Just stumbled upon this. Great cover, great song!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Dang! One of my favorite COB songs and you covered it perfectly. Some people often forget that Alexi wasn't just an excellent guitar player but also a great song writer. He was a riff machine, solo guitarist, composer...all of that. Thanks for the great cover! Greetings from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Abrazos 💜
Thank you so much for the kind words! Definitely one of my favorite songs of theirs as well. And yes I completely agree, he was an exceptional song and riff writer, both of which only augment his soloing abilities. We truly lost a great one and I plan on posting many more CoB covers to honor him 🙏 Thanks again for watching!
@@cameronstucky That's a great idea to post more covers to honor Alexi's legacy. I actually met him once back in 2006 when I was only 16 lol. We were hanging in front of the building they had a gig that night. All of a sudden I saw him walking towards the backyard and I was like 'hey Alexi, how are you doing', he stopped and started talking with me (even though he was busy as he mentioned). We talked like 15 minutes and he was so nice to me, very polite, kind, generous...i didn't ask him anything but yet he gave me 3 signed 'Blooddrunk' tour T-shirts and a few picks. I'm half Finnish (and half Venezuelan). Last Christmas I visited Helsinki and made kind of a pilgrimage to his grave. It was a very touching moment as his death hit me so hard. Anyways, he left behind such a great legacy. All the best & take care. Greetings from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain 💜
Came back to see if it still slams. My assessment: yup, still slams. RIP ALEXI!
Also that star you're romping on is gorgeous, what model is that?
Ahah right on bro! 🤘😆 and yes RIP to a true legend, pretty sure I’ve listened to CoB every day since. And thanks! This is the ESP custom shop model 😵 was very fortunate to come across it on reverb about a year ago and had to swoop!
Perfect execution! Thanks.
It still blows my mind how many amazing songs Alexi has written. So creative and symphonic
Thanks for the kind words! And yes I couldn't agree more, the amount of masterpieces and amazing solos he wrote is absolutely astounding. There will never be another like him!
This is not just the best cover of this song, this is also one of the best covers of any cob song in youtube, youre a beast man
Wow man thanks for such a kind compliment! I try my best to do COB justice, such an amazing band deserves nothing less!
excellent work 🤘 Alexi would be proud 👍
wow thank you for the kind words, RIP to the greatest and I can only hope to do his work a sliver of justice 🙏
Absolutely epic mate. Playing is so smooth. Uncommon cob song its one of my favourites you definitely did it justice bro
Thanks so much! Definitely one of my favorite songs from this record, glad to hear it’s up to standard! 🤘
Great performance - and an interesting guitar you're playing!

Mad Respect...
Ugh the RL600😭wish I still had that
Spot on
Thank you!
so many things to love about this song. most recent is the chord progression under the keyboard solo
I would agree, the power-chord progressions in most Bodom songs are heavily under-rated. Thanks for watching!
Awesome cover man, love it
Thanks so much! 🤘
Yeah dude!!! Perfect play, best cover on this song that i`ve ever heard,. R.I.P. Alexi Laiho
Thanks so much I appreciate the kind words! And yes, Rest In Peace to the ultimate legend

What a superb excecution!! I enjoyed every second of this! Very clean!

Fantastic. Nailed everything, ESPECIALLY the pinched harmonics !
Thank you so much! The EMG HZ pickup really helps with those haha
teach me wizard man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahah I offer lessons if you're interested!
@@cameronstucky i have been looking out for lessons for a while now, and speculated if i should go for it or not. do you have a website or something similar?
@@sanderwaglen4904 dude you absolutely should! I offer lessons via zoom, but I also have an online store where I sell tabs:
cameronstucky.bigcartel.com
I also did a lesson series for ESP a few years back, that might be a good place to start to gauge your interest or learn a few things!

Great cover, I love all the songs Alexi created.
Thank you so much! And yes I couldn't agree more, he was a true master.
Was staring at the right hand the whole video. Awesome technique 👏👏

Thank you! And this one's a real ESP 😎
Damn fine cover 👍

Just started listening to sea in the sky this year . What a incredible band . Like where was this for the last 10 years . But hey better late then never . Your highly skilled and I appreciate your style .
Thank you so much that means a lot! 🙏 we’re slowly working in new music 😎 in the meantime I’ll try to post some cover videos of our songs and my solos
@@cameronstucky very excited to see your reply and Thank you for responding 🙂 , no worries sir Slow and steady . Tho I cant wait to hear what you've come up with next. I'll keep a look out for those upcoming vids. First time hearing sea in the sky was on pandora it was only instrumental[tread lightly] and I was so caught. Then i heard the lyrics from the album. So good . Great band looking forward to all of it
Very cool👍Great cover🤘
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching 🤘
damn, Cam
Hahah 😆Thanks for watching!
Hell yeah man! Nice to see you playing one of my favorite melodeath bands.... hope you’re doing alright Cameron. ✌️ - weston
great cover!!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Sick!!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Hey, awesome playing, man! I'm curious about your picking technique. Noticed you seem to hold the pick from the wider end rather than the center-am I seeing that right? Not sure if it's the black pick against a white body that's throwing me off, but it got me thinking. I'm working on improving my own picking technique, so I'd love to know more about how you hold it and any tips you have. Thanks
Thanks so much! I use a jumbo jazz pick, so there's a bit more material and allows me to hold it closer to the top of the pick as you're noticing. I think using a bit more pick material instead of "choking up" on the pick has worked better for me.
Other than that, I would say the main thing would be to pay attention to how you're using your wrist, and if there is any excess arm movement. The wrist action is kind of the key to picking in my experience, along with pick angle, as you can see in the video. Cheers!
yo gotta sing too! hahahaha
I seriously have no idea how he did it haha what a madman!
Dude, great fucking job!
Thanks man I appreciate it, and thanks for watching!

Thanks for the support!
Очень крутое исполнение!!! Спасибо тебе, мужик!!!
You nailed the tone, very similar to the original.
Are you using amp+pedals in this recording or just software through your audio interface?
Thank you I appreciate the kind words! I mic'ed my EVH 5150iii for this with a Boss Chorus and Reverb in the fx loop. Seems like the chorus pedal is kinda the secret sauce for Alexi's tone haha But also this guitar having the EMG HZ pickup really locks in that signature Bodom tone as well.
@@cameronstucky - Oh I see, the EMGs have an unique sound indeed, thank you for replying!
RL is a cool guitar.
Definitely, one of my favorites! Thanks for watching!
I've dreamed of owning the guitar.
It was tough to find for sure haha
@@cameronstucky may I ask what you paid? I wish Edwards guitars would make some even though Roope was out of COB. Probably the sweetest inlays I’ve ever seen.
I own a Reece Scruggs Roehrs, practically the exact same guitar. But there’s just something about Roopes shape and inlays.❤️❤️❤️
@@cs9667 This is an ESP version, so without being specific it was quite expensive haha And yeah I wish they made an Edwards or LTD random star shape, even though this one is Roope's sig they have made other designs over the years, hopefully they bring it back! And that's rad! The Reece model is probably the next closest thing for sure!
This is next level. I've probaably watched it 10x already. I could only aspire to play that good one day but in the meanwhile, what are you using for this tone? Lolol
Wow thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching! I believe I was using a 5150iii with Boss Chorus+Reverb in the fx loop.
@@cameronstucky sick!! Was it the 50 Watt?
Yes!
@@cameronstucky sweet! What does the reverb and chorus do in the fx loop?
Just there to add a little ambience, both are pretty quiet overall @@yardenmor-avi9765
Great cover all around. What's the signal chain to get this tone?
Thank you! This was am EVH 5150iii with a Boss Chorus and Reverb through the FX loop. However, the real tone getter is likely the Alexi Laiho signature EMG HZ 4 pickup, has that distinct Bodom sound haha
Perfect!! but the tapping part?
Thanks! Ah yeah I debated whether or not I should do it, and honestly wasn't sure if I could pull it off so I just went for the rhythm part haha
Love the cover, when you do the first 2 chords in the verse riffs, the first chord looks like a G power chord? But for the second, are you playing a B, with the 5th in the bass? I love the sound Roope throws into those verses live that kinda clash against Alexi.
Thanks so much! Yeah the first two chords are a G to B power chord, and I have a habit of adding the lower 5th to a power chord to make it sound fatter haha may not be exactly what they played but I like the texture.
@@cameronstucky that's what I do too lol, Roope always goes ham with some crazy extensions and inversions live against what Alexis playing. What pickup is in that bridge btw? I just picked up the Ltd version of your guitar. Previous owner replaced the hz with an 81. Curious what the actual ESP custom came with.
@@bre4dfish Ahah yeah it's so much fun! And yes you're right, was so cool the way they played off of each other.
Oh dude that's rad, quite a rare find! The ESP version I have comes with an HZ, definitely not the most versatile pickup, but as soon as I played the guitar I understood where that signature Bodom sound came from haha
Great cover! tight playing, helped clear up a few parts in the solo. What are you using to achieve that great tone??
Thanks so much! Glad to hear that haha
I'm using an Engl Fireball, with Boss Chorus and Reverb in the fx loop.
What is the model of your guitar? 😮
This is an old ESP Roope Latvala signature, labeled as an ESP - RL. It's based on the "random star" body design they've done with a few other models. Such a fun guitar!
amazing cover man ! are you interested in selling this guitar ;) ?
Thanks so much! Ahaha shoot I'll never give this one up, it was too hard to find in the first place!
