The first time I saw hydroponics and grow lights used was in the 1970's by the pot farmers in Washington state growing weed in their closets. I hadn't seen that before because I'm from California where people just grew outdoors. The marijuana farmers have always been on the forefront of hydroponics and grow lights. Whether or not you agree with the use of marijuana it's still worth picking those guys brains, they have this stuff down to a science.

I'm not sure I quite agree with this. They're specialized to a high value crop which is why they were always on the cutting edge of tech; it was worth the investment. But their advice is always geared towards the pricy options worth more than your crop

I wasn't going to get into planting this year. With COVID-19, we've been so busy and stressed, I'm a nurse and my husband works in hospital as well. I have to say, the hydroponic tubs look pretty great. I wouldn't have to worry so much about watering and pests getting into the beds. Thanks for sharing Daniel.

Your garden vegetables are growing so well & healthy looking. I grow my leafy greens in the Kratky methods during winter, but haven't try growing anything during the summer, because our temperature is so hot and humid here. Probably will give it a try this year, since your pepper and cucumber plants looking so healthy. Thanks for sharing your garden experiences.

Loving your videos since I found you in March. I javelin started 2 55 gallon hydroponic gardens. One has 2 banana peppers and they are doing great. I repurposed small coffeemate containers for pots. The other barrel has 3 varieties of cucumber and 1 cherry tomato. I have already harvested the first cluster of tomatoes and cucumbers just started to blossom this week. I followed your instructions except I star with water from my koi pond. I water everything with fish poop. I have had to add a couple gallons of water a couple of times but that came from the koi pond too. I have two more barrels to start soon. Can't wait. Thank you so much this has been a lot of fun. Hope it holds up in florida heat.

I’m a Canadian senior who recently discovered Mike Vandez (I think). I’m just learning about this method, and am doing my research. We have bitterly cold winters here in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, -30c on average this winter, so I’m trying to figure out what I can grow inside for a food supply. Our cost of living and housing has become so overwhelming in Canada, that most of the seniors/disabled can’t afford a healthy diet. The problem is, we can’t afford even moderately priced online hydroponics courses to learn the nitty gritty either. Personally I’m scared to death; I am 5’2” and have shrunk to less than 100lbs. I’m terrified that if I don’t find an affordable healthy food source, I’ll just continue to deteriorate, so are a lot of my friends. We are far from alone. As Canadian seniors we can’t complain or we’ll be offered MAID for being too poor to eat properly ( something you should never know!)
Thank you for sharing your actual food blend without taking a course. I have subscribed and will look up the other people you mentioned that you’ve learned from.
If you could please share how to do everything on an alternative budget, so we can all afford to do this. So through this methodology we can afford greens and nutrients to help us survive.
    ❤️

Your videos are by far the most practical. And you don't just teach facts, you share experiences, good and bad. Keep at it. I hope you, your family and your homestead prosper greatly this year.

Thanks for this! I saw your video a few weeks ago, with the tote on your patio. I live in an apartment with a patio that gets morning sun, but is all shade after about 12. I've struggled growing in pots. I started researching this method and have started ordering supplies. Now to get my hands on a drill, to drill the holes... 😜
This was really helpful! I'm ordering the clay beads that you showed, instead of the rockwool grow cubes that another video recommended. That way I can start my seeds in dirt, like I normally would.
Thanks for the tip about rain. I have a covered patio but this is good to know, so I can pull the totes in closer to the door to avoid the added water.

Daniel great video. The difference between peppers grown outside, inside the high tunnel in soil, in wicking tubs, hydroponic barrels is awesome. I just recently saw Bobby's video using perlite. Let me say that cabbage of his must be a record breaker lol. Thanks for this one because our high tunnel is doing great. We are going to try the barrel for cukes and a tub for 1 zucchini for our experiment. Hope all is well. God bless ❤😊🙏

If police officin' doesn't work out for ya, you'd be a great teacher. You make things easy to understand. Must be from rearin' them youngins all these years, or explainin' to people how to follow directions at work? x) Father's Day is comin' up, I hope yours is the greatest! Love from Philly

Drill a couple holes in that tub on the patio for overflow. You’ll never have to empty rain water. :) Happy growing.
