Hi Marcus, great info about the HT leads. I’ve actually made my own before but used a kit and they worked out just as expensive (or more!) had no idea you could buy lengths of the cable and new ends separately! So I’m going to try again next time, buy the materials separately and hopefully save some money! Thanks for info 👍 cheers, Phil
i used to do the same heel / toe burnouts in my MK2's and mk 1's nearly 30 years ago! oh how i wish i kept those cars! cant afford to get one now as the prices for them are stupid lol
Try toes on the brake and heel the accelerator. Would make a good video for normal driving. Might feet are too big for either way round. Hmmm - you would just modify the pedal box 😊. Look forward to the next one.
@@nick1012ish I agree BUT if you get the pressure right it’s fine. Esther’s rear brake shoes have never been changed since I put her on the road years ago. 👍
For paint removal use them black biscuit things that have holes. Thin discs are cutting discs. Thick discs are for grinding. Flap wheels are for polishing steel.
Love the explanation of tecnique for burnout marcus. Ive just made 8 ht leads for my sons 1964 mustang 289 and used old c9nnectors and boots. . Id show but cant add pics here.
Definitely way cheaper to make your own. The mustang is boiling the fuel in the carb due to ethanol. I have to take inlet off and block off crossover ports to help with cooling and stop vapour locks. Love mk2 escorts. Fav car with mk3 cortina.
Get a couple more cheap angle grinders have one for each disk to save swapping all the time. I got a hurst electric line lock on mine. Got it from the states, easy to fit on the front brake circuit and no need for left foot braking and you don’t have to overcome the rear brakes. Flick a switch and roll out of it.
@@daver3874 Definitely a good idea. I’m waiting to see the Parkside grinders in Lidl again because the button to change the disc is now broken. I can still change the discs by poking a screwdriver in tho. 👍
Burnouts should be minimal for the conditions, ie hot track small burnout, cold track larger & you only want to clean & heat the tyres + prep the track, excessive burnouts will melt the shoulders of the tyre and you gain nothing, if anything your launch is worse. Also get a line lock to do it properly. Line locks are the pro way if you drag race not cheating.
@@marcushayesford and I got home I think either the older kid pulled something or someone else did. As checked connections under the bonnet and no issues all the way home.
With my line lock it is setup to the rear brake lines and blocks it from building up pressure so that you can still feather the pedal to do rolling burnouts don’t know if anyone else done it that way I just done it as makes life easier for all burnouts yet to try it out tho
@@davidsclassicfords7094 Interesting! Maybe thats how they all work?? Iv never had one but I assumed they were supposed to be plumbed into the fronts. 👍
And for anyone curious, a front wheel drive burnout is done by dropping the clutch and leaving the handbrake on, you can then regulate the braking to make it roll by letting the handbrake on/off a number of clicks. However if your car has a lot of grip or a lack of power, it can be more effective to be rolling back or reversing slightly before switching to a forward gear and applying the handbrake etc. 👍
@@marcushayesford Little Felicia the Fiesta used to stand on the handbrake happily and smoke out the front tyres, however now her wheels and tyres have doubled in size and width, and quadrupled in grip, she has to roll back 🤣
Nice progress, little by little 👏🏻

Marcus I had NGK leads on a 1600 sunbeam the spark plug caps screwed on the leads with a internal thread even easier

line lock is best i think it holds car in place with out heating up and burning out the back brakes. as the other ways still applies the brakes a bit

The black do look much better. Making your own do save quite a bit of money. That I’d true for a fair number of things
Keep up the good work.

Is it legal to do burnouts in a MK2 with a 1600 Pinto as you're likely to be in a Mexico?

The online fuel filter is fitted the wrong way round, fuel should flow to the outside of the filter so you can see any dirt and therefore replace.

I've smashed countless clutches doing the same. It's not good to slam shock a stock clutch! Also bump starts in reverse has the same effect.
