Mainlanders buy rolex watches in HK because of the taxes. That is why the HK market is bigger then PR China en USA combined.
That was a part of it, for sure. I say "was" because the HK numbers have dropped significantly enough that it's no longer so.

You'd be surprised...It's quite a lot cheaper here in HK and there's no sales, harmonised, value added or tax of any kind attached to the bill.
