My name on Reddit is "losermobile" for a weird reason Видеоклипы
That pink weird album, "Masseduction" is indeed great !
I saw St. Vincent live about a decade ago. She is without question the best guitarist I've seen live.
I saw her in 2018. Completely agree
I craaaaave details. especially her skills live 😩 I’m seeing her show September
I have seen her live on every tour since strange mercy. One of the best guitarist out there, but her live shows have such a kinetic energy, in every detail of the show. Keeps me coming back lol.
AVAA there's not a single uninteresting moment in this album. Loved your review professor and I agree with the maximalist minimalist characterization. You should check out the rest of her discography when you have the time. She's brilliant.
Dude.....absolutely best guitarist working now for me as well. Thank you for validating my opinion 😅
AVAA professor. St. Vincent is actually the artist that got me to look more into music with her self titled, and so in a weird way she lead me to you. Cute full circle moment
I’d never heard of her until I heard Big time nothing and broken man a few weeks ago, and I was stunned that it was self produced. Then listened to this album, I’ve been sleeping for far too long
Women are responsible for creating so much amazing music these days and St. Vincent is at the top of that pack. She is a brilliant musician, it is amazing that she produced something this good. This is definitely my favorite album she has put out since Self Titled
Without reducing the accomplishment and significance of her last two chronological studio albums (excluding her soundtrack album), her most recent album right now is proof that she'd be better off by producing her subsequent albums and works herself.
Avaa and thanks for the shout out!
You should really go back through her catalog because to me this album sounds like a culmination of all her work. Which sounds obvious, but it’s a little like Igor was to me; you can hear all the things she’s gone into before and taken the best bits and made this new thing. And where she’s made albums that deliberately focus on different genres/styles it’s interesting to hear how it all comes together on this album. It’s got some of the 70s Daddy’s Home stuff, some of the ascerbic pop from Masseduction, a load of the riffs and heavier stuff from Self Titled and the kind of off kilter jazz influences that are on her first albums.
And you’ll love her guitar work all over all the albums!
She actually said herself in a recent interview to The NY Times ( titled "St. Vincent’s 10 (or, Actually 11) Essential Songs") that 'Power's Out' is her homage to 'Five Years' by Bowie ;)
but yes, I agree with you, this is (already) the album of the year!
...Oh and about the comment "there was not much music around made by women besides Bjork and PJ Harvey" I got some homework for you that will blow your mind: My Brightest Diamond, Nadine Shah, Fever Ray, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Warpaint, Arone Dyer (Buke & Gaze), Land of Talk, Tori Amos, Joan As a Police Woman, Sharon Van Etten, Xenia Rubinos, The Knife :) You're welcome!
One of my fav albums of 2024
Is Fire
Big love from Uruguay 🇺🇾
Timestamp 9:44
That's the first reason I've been a fan of hers way back Strange Mercy Album.
Thank you for appreciating Clark music.
Lots love from the Philippines
I feel so seen by the “Five Years” comparison
I love So Many Planets so much. AVAA, I swear I can hear David Byrne (at least spiritually) right there in the backing vocals.
AVAA Theres a video from around when she released her first record where she sings a bit of Five Years, so hearing her fully channel that song for The Power's Out felt almost full circle in a way
As a film student and an Emmanuelle Riva fan, I adored the Hiroshima Mon Amour mention❤
I saw St. Vincent for her only Australian show on the Masseduction tour, she opened the show by playing The Birthday Party. I need to watch it again but I remember thinking it was a cool way to open
AVAA Love your stuff Professor. Wish it were in podcast form so I could hear it more often. Have you listened to the new Neil Young album that dropped a few days ago. Masterclass in punk grunge. Looking forward to your review.
You should listen to Strange Mercy and Actor AVAA
AVAA. I'd love to see you review Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake it's morning and Bright Eyes - digital ash in a digital urn. Both albums were released simultaneously. Juxtaposing them could make for an interesting video
Thanks for these video!! LOVE so much THESe female artist...the legend PJ Harvey new work, St. Vincent too... We got good times...i'm a Big fan of rock&roll bandas...BUT i LOVE special last years the female figures...they got more to say ...Annie Clark IS a new genious...i Hope Polly Jean launch soon a new record more punk or rock
Its charming
Hey Professor! Would love it if you reviewed the newest album from the psychedelic crumpets.
Part about Amen and the different situations people may be in had me weak
AVAA Prof. She tied herself loose from jack antonoff. Maybe Taylor Swift should do the same.
AVAA!! and thank you kid cudi for introducing me to st. vincent (the song maniac from man on the moon 2)
i love them so much ahhhhh
AVAA you should check out this Hovvdy self titled album
I came because of the beef, but I stuck around because I love this album. AVAA
One of my favorite artists working right now. She first came to my attention when she did some stuff with David Byrne, "Love This Giant".Most of the best singer songwriters seem to be women these days.
Review Owen - The Falls of Sioux
AVAA. Yes, charming
You should check out some of Sadistiks work next. If you're a fan of literature and literary references, occult and religous references, poetry, metaphor, etc, theres alot to bite into. Much like Aesop, though not AS heavy in the obscure metaphor department.
I'd suggest Haunted Gardens, Elysium, L'appel Du Vide, or his recent album Oblivion Theatre (though this record is a bit more impactful if youve listened to his earlier work)
Very poetic but still a rappers rapper. Found his lane and rides it well.
AVAA, If you could review the new pet shop boys album that would be tremendous because it’s like a documentary of sythesizer history from the kraftwerk era to now
Also PLEASE do a video on million dollar baby by Tommy Richman. It’s the #1 song in the world and it’s pretty much perfect
This album is IMO St Vincent's return to form - yes, Daddy's Home is great and all (and it's my favorite album of her too) but the soundscape in that album is 100% not typical of her.
It took me a while to warm up to this one (though then again that's how I usually do with her 😅🙈), but now I am more confident that this is definitely one of her better albums.
(Also WDYM you haven't heard MASSEDUCTION?? That was my first St Vincent's album, and boy that was one hell of an intro to her 😅😂🤣🤣💀🔥)
Bladee when?
Processing
Avaa
Memberberries!!!
I thought she was covering U2 with how much it was the same melody lol
No Zooropa, no Radiohead sez I.
