Casimir Pulaski Day is hands down one of the most gorgeous and emotional songs I’ve ever heard. The way that horn section comes in as he sings “and the cardinal hits the window” pierces my heart every time
It's a fantastically complex and beautiful album, but yeah there's a lot to take in. Try Carrie and Lowell next, completely different- stripped back and very personal.
The joy on my face when I saw this upload in my sub box, probably in contention for my favorite album ever. If I had to throw in a request it would be LCD Soundsystem’s “Sound of Silver.” Some excellent fusions of electronic, dance, punk, and other genres that I think you’d enjoy. Keep up the awesome work Mr. Consistency 😤
I love Sufjan Stevens. One of the few Christian musicians who actually makes good music and gives Christianity a good name. I recommend listening to Michigan at some point along with Carrie and Lowell and Age of Adz.
Dude, you keep knocking it out of the park. Soooo consistent. A good reaction for the future would be The Holy Bible by the Manic Street Preachers.. that is a wild ride.
My old comment got automodded (I mentioned s€Xual lyrics oops) I think, so I'll just say again that The Age Of Adz is probably a good next step. It's a concept album about love during an AI takeover but its production is inspired by this kind of indie-pop and vintage sci-fi scores. It's wild.
A classic! Gonna recommend another kinda big album. Big Thief’s “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You” A genre hopper with a slight tendency towards folk and alt country.
@semendemon mmm, illinoise and Carrie & Lowell are the albums that everyone recognize as masterworks. The other great albums from him are Seven Swans ,The Age Of ADZ and Michigan but they are not completely acclaimed as the other two biggest works.
Age of Adz is my personal favorite from him but it’s definitely more polarizing and not as accessible as the other two most popular (and rightfully so) albums.
You like the darkness, my friend. Just like me. Maybe try leonard Cohen's New skin for old ceremony. Off beat groove, fat bass, and plenty of hurt. Maybe have a few gummies to ease the impatient feels. Great reaction btw.
“This sounds like Christmas shit bro…” fun fact, Suf has recorded over 5 HOURS of Christmas music over his 20+year career… also as a lifelong fan of Sufjan, this is the most wholesome critical reception of his music I’ve ever witnessed… LASTLY, the electric guitarist going off in “the man of the metropolis” track you were digging is none other than female musician St Vincent who’s had quite the successful career since disbanding and going her own way. Awesome job tho bro! Much better than that fantano dude 👊
This is a COMPLETE guess (and it's one of my top 5 albums you listened to) but I BELIEVE Workers of the area is talking about the strikes that went on in Peoria with the Caterpillar company. Just a guess. I should probably just look it up to confirm but I'm going to comment anyway.
I don't what I'm more of surprised about...your not knowing who Carl Sandburg is or John Wayne Gacy? Carl Sandburg is a wonderful American poet ("The fog crept in on little cat's feet" as per my memory of studying Sandburg in high school in Canada about 50 years ago). John Wayne Gacy murdered at least 33 young men/boys and was executed in 1994 for those crimes including torture, rape and dismemberment of his victims' bodies. Anyway, here is Sufjan Stevens and his band/musical colleagues at the time performing most of the songs from his "Illinoise" album on PBS' Austin City Limits in 2006: ruclips.net/video/pga0GOT6gcE/видео.htmlsi=S8RbZtNbl4ulYPks
Sufjan is one of those guys that even when you're not looking you know what he's been doing deserves attention.

those two are my perfect sufjan projects
complete opposites but just similarly brilliant
"oh they fucking" 😭😭
His Carrie and Lowell album is definitely worth checking out!
Totally agree it’s a must 💯💯
oh yes please!
Age Of Adz is my favourite record of the 10s and this is nearly as good
PLEASE do The Age of Adz, so different so crazy, nothing like it.

Great review. The last track (Out of Egypt) is a mini-tribute to the music of Steve Reich (who you should definitely check out if you haven’t).
definitely an all time favourite for me; thanks for the entertainment
you are a madman, love to see it! ❤
Casimir Pulaski Day is definitely my favorite on the album. It makes me depressed.
Predatory Wasps and Casimir Pulaski Day still get me. John Wayne Gacy is so oddly beautiful and coursgeous

I’m so happy you listened to this

Masterpiece. Worth checking out Carrie & Lowell, much more intimate and concise. Would be a good follow-up
Love this album. Chicago is such a great song. Makes me feel like I could drop kick a train. 👍 Woo!
Literally one of the greatest albums of all time
A classic!
Gonna recommend another kinda big album. Big Thief’s “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You” A genre hopper with a slight tendency towards folk and alt country.
i love this album WOOOOOOO
One of his two Masterpieces.

The second half of "Come on feel the Illinoise" blew me away when i first listened to the album
my all time top 5 album yes
nice reaction i love Sufjan!!!
i want to recommend (Tamino - Amir ) the album
Definitely do Carrie and Lowell
Your pronunciation was spot on.
I’ll throw in a rec for the great album Heart Food by Judee Sill, a singer-songwriter from the 1970s who was a big influence on Sufjan.
Seconded
Predatory wasp. Probably my favorite of all Sufjan
first wooooooooo
You like the darkness, my friend.

This is my comfy album

Illinois is his best album, and Carrie&Lowell is his second best album.
Blackhawks are a type of military helicopter
I recommend to you the album kalk samen kuri no hana by Sheena ringo
Shoutout to the cowboy bebop shirt
do pink moon by nick drake
You're very good looking 🤩
Nucleus by anthem
As an Illinoisian, this album is our greatest claim to fame after the city of chicago
Please react to the new Norwegian band Mildfire :)
Rip audio?
It's only on mobile for the first hour or two after the video is posted
@feli6277 Oh, i see gotcha. Thank you

WHY? ALOPECIA
CANT MISS WITH THIS ALBUM
Yes! Elephant eyelash would be good too 👍
FUCKING PLEASE
you took off your bra
you GOTTA do age of adz. musically it has a way wider palatte than Carrie And Lowell and arguably Illinoise
