In today’s video, we discussed how to win your VA claim, even if it has been decades since you served in the military. Mini veterans think that they do not have a right to a VA disability rating due to the fact that they served many years ago, but they could not be more wrong. we are going to discuss a step-by-step process to winning your VA rating even if you do not have any records from service and it has been decades.

In 1972 I joined The Navy with a Pre Existing Injury, A Few years Later 1975 I reinjured myself and was Given a Medical Discharge, But Was Told I was Not Allowed to File for Disability. 49 Yrs Later My Son Went to A VSO and I went With Him.I inquired if I Could try to Put In a Claim? He said Yes and I Did This Past Feb.2024! This Past Week I Won Part Of my Disability with a Rate of 50%, Just Waiting on My Back C&P To Get Near The Top Goal! I Suffered For A long Time. But This Proves you Gotta Try!!!!

Hey Jordan, I just won a claim I filed from 32 years ago. Didn’t know anything about it until a former VSO brought it to my attention. Turns out I mentioned something about it just before I ETSd. And the VA requested I come for a C&P exam at that time but I never responded. Filed a supplemental 32 years later, had a C&P exam and I was blessed with service connection 32 years later: 40% back, 30% left knee and 30% lower left extremity. APTTMHY

I got out of active duty military in 1992, and after getting out of the military I never once considered to file for disability. Thinking I'm not disabled, there's no way I could get rated. For decades, I suffered with injuries and medical issues that I had while in the military and my medical records. I wished I had gone to the flight doctor's when I had needed to while active duty, but of course I was young and resilient, and avoided the flight doctor even if my back was aching, etc. because I didn't want to get DNIF and keep on flying. Then years later. Actually, 3 decades later I finally went to the VA, had the C&P exams, and was blessed with 60% rating! Yes, 30 years later. So if you had issues while in the military and it's decades later, it's not too late to file!!! I know while I was in the military, right before getting out, I did complained about back issues, but what is strange was this was not found in my medical records, so back pain was denied because they said it was not in my records. Here's what was strange. I had ordered my medical records, and when I received the documents it was missing majority of pages. I received only 20 pages! It was definitely incomplete, but... one of the documents was a visit to the doctor about my back problems right before I had gotten out of the military. Within the record the doctor had noted that I had been in a bad car accident right before I entered the military. There was indication of injury at that time. This in fact is true, but the years on the flight line, carrying heavy equipment, bags, boxes, etc. and being petite in size, did have a toll on my body. Although I did have an accident prior to going into the military. I truly feel that my duties while active duty really impacted my back and knees today. My back claim was rejected, but I hope to go back with the new paperwork that I have in hand, and will not give up on my rejected claim for my knees. It's a process, and our injuries may have happened decades ago, but as our bodies age, these injuries will start to surface and goes from the back to the neck, to the knees, etc! I plan on signing up to VA Academy to get that additional support that I need so I can get what was denied reopened and find success. The VSO in my area was no help when I wanted to revisit what was rejected. This lady in fact was sarcastic implying how can I have an injury decades ago and only now I'm getting these issues. It was a horrible experience! I did not go to the VSO in my first claim, so this visit was very discouraging and disappointing. Good luck to all of you!

Filed in 2002 when I got out. Got denied for not being available. Had a second round in 2014. Got a 0% and gave up.
PACT act opened the door for more claims. Now sitting at 94% with 3 supplemental claims after an HLR pending.
      You do good work!

Former 2nd Ranger Battalion Sargeant from the 1970s here.
You are correct in our mindset back then, as well as units not wanting one to go to sick call.
Broke 1 ankle and sprung the other on same jump. There were so many injuries that "cattle trucks" were called in to evacuate us.
My medical records can NOT be found, VA has given me a 40% rating for combination of hearing loss and arthritis of the spine, hips and knees.
Tried to get a higher rating with a law firm, went to C&P exam but was denied last March.
My PCH is with the VA (he is one of the good doctors) and he got pissed. I have xrays from 2012 and 2024
I saw Dr. last week and he is sending me to a rheumatologist.

Got out in 1998. Filed my first claim the end of 2022. Now at 50% with three HLR's pending and another claim awaiting a decision. I got denied a few times, but I filed supplemental claims with new evidence and continue to go to the doctor. I wish I had started this process sooner.

This is reassuring, I’ve been out for 8 years and was skeptical to start. I have my last C&P this week. Two of my previous claims were deferred though, so I’m hoping this whole process wasn’t for nothing

Project 2025 if implemented is going to put a 10 year limit on the time to file a claim along with other drastic cuts and rules to make it tougher to receive benefits. Veterans its very important that you read the changes that project 2025 wants to make with the VA.

Oh, one more thing when I told him I hurt my back and maybe he said it was all in my head. They sent me to a mental hospital for two weeks. It was the worst two weeks I ever had in my life. They gave me a high rating for my PTSD because of it, but they never acknowledged my back.

I injured my back and right leg and they gave me 10% and then 10% more I did a C&P on my back so I filed for a higher rating I’m no sure what happened they gave me another 20% so now I’m at 90% my neurologist told me I can’t work anymore. I have that paperwork. My heart surgeon told me I can’t work anymore. I have that paperwork I have a pain management doctor says I can’t work anymore and he’s said the same thing with my psychiatrist giving me medication for thePTSD my management doctor is giving me pain pills so I feel no pain but he did tell me that I had chronic pain in my back. I got four I can’t work and I have to do surgery. he said I have chronic pain. It’s in my records they denied it.

Does combat related PTSD have to be in a war zone or could it be in the USA, a not combat zone? In my case a traumatic injury in direct support of the war ready nuclear bombers that are on 24-hour standby.

I have the standard 20% for loss related to years exposure to 1950’s new jet engines in the USN aviation. I have been provided great hearing aids but not at age 85 my hearing is much worst and the hearing aids of the best possible quality according to the VA audiologist just isn’t helping much. Is it possible for my hearing loss be increased from the standard VA 20% service connection? Everyday I deal with problems due to my deteriorating hearing ! Where do I start or contact ?

MST is not as easy as he says it is. I have a friend that claimed PTSD related to MST. He only recieved 30 percent for the first rating even though he should of qualified for more because of his symptons. He had to go to trauna focused PTSD and relive the moment over and over again explaining what happened each time. He would break down and cry every time he story was told to a doctor. After about a year of doing that he had another C and P exam the examineer told him he should of been rating higher off the jump. So he lost 40 pay increase for over a year. Then he finally recieved 70 petcent. Last thing your claim slmost totally depends who the C and P examiner is I have seen be sides good and bad. The common deninotor is the examiner what he writes in his notes. He only recieved about 6 months of packpay but the incident happened 25 year pryor.
