    Well done, I appreciate your content and perspectives. I’m a Silverado 2500HD 6.6 gas owner, the info you’ve posted has been helpful

      I have a gas 2500, long bed. 11050 lb gvwr. Payload is almost 4000 lbs. hitch weight in door is 2900 , I am pulling a 13,500 fifth wheel with a pin weight around 2200 lbs. I don’t feel it is unsafe. And, only feel the weight, when pulling hills. I never run 80mph, always safe at 60-65, fuel mileage is much better as well.

    Don't be sad about a travel trailer, that's all we have ever towed. You will love having your truck bed back while traveling. We got the Leer topper, I know, grandpa truck, but wow it makes it usable while camping. Like you, we are wanting down size from our 39' TT with 4 slides to a smaller TT, mainly because I want an AT4X HD 😂

    I was towing our 32’ boat to winter storage couple weeks ago. (2024 AT4 HD). Had a warning flash 2X across the instrument cluster that I might be exceeding the towing capability of the truck. So…… I got that goin for me. Lol.

      Now you have zero warranty. Its another way they can void a drivetrain warranty. Good luck. Everything is stored in the ecu

    Every 3/4 needs air bags for the best towing performance. They make a huge difference in leveling truck and balancing weight.

      Air bags do nothing to “balance weight “.

    • @rsbreeze
      @rsbreeze 11 месяцев назад +1

      @cisco1dog are you stooopid? If you level the load, it transfers weight off the pin and distributes it to the front and rear axles. A lot of trucks roll down the road squatting with no weight on the front axle.

    We went 30' bumper pull Grand Design 25G. Great size, super flexible. We've got three kids and the happyjack beds are perfect. Kind of heavy pin weight but not too bad.

    I know you didn't exceed your payload in this video, but even if you had I personally wouldn't stress about it if it's within reason. If the truck still feels comfortable with the trailer then your very much within it's capabilities in my opinion. Just ask a farmer, they have been exceeding manufacturers suggested numbers for generations lol.

    Finally found a GMC 2500HD AT4X AEV Edition only 70 miles from my house. Going up Saturday morning after I get off of work and checking it out. It is Volcanic Red Tintcoat which I love.

    I personally lile my TT toyhauler so I can keep my bed open for more gear or a quad or bike.
    I'm usually rolling down the road at 22-23k GCWR. Haven’t weighed it with my 2500HD ZR2 yet.

    We have a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Duramax which we ordered with 20s and have a payload of 3400 pounds. We tow a 37’ travel trailer with a family of five and two 10’ kayaks and love it. We did a 4000km trip this summer and loved it. Just so much easier getting into parks with a travel trailer. But fifth wheels have better layouts personally speaking but doesn’t suit our needs. 😊😊

    Tow weight is a controversial subject. I have a 2021 chevy 2500 with the duramax. My camper is a 2021 Avalanche 382Fl and is 41'-6". On a cat scale I am 120 lbs over on rear axle. Total payload, I am over 630#. Si now I have in transit a 2024 3500 srw with duramax that should make me legal. My 2021 pulls it with no problem. I just feel safer knowing I will not be over weight. Hopefully I will have new truck in a week or two. Great video, keep them coming.

    Great videos! We’ve been shopping bumper pulls and fifth wheel toy haulers. Current truck is 2023 2500 Duramax. Our door numbers are pretty close.
    We’re starting to find out that the 2500 is pretty much maxed out on the light fifth wheels and most of the large bumper pull toy haulers are so damn heavy that nothing can tow them. The tongue/pin weights are out of control. What we have decided is if we are getting a fifth wheel or a bumper pull, we need a dually. The 3/4 truck is almost like the new half ton. Sure they have these great max tow capacities but the payloads fall short and pretty much max the truck out even if it’s empty.
    The best option seems to be a super C dragging our motorcycle trailer or dragging a flatbed car hauler with a vehicle in tow.

    JB and his click baity GM exhaust brake foolishness lol.
    Anyways the 2020+ GM HDs are game changers. Even if it was a 3500 it would still be just a SRW truck. Sure it has an overload spring but it also looses a spring in the main pack. I’ve always advocated for duallies with 5th wheels but the GM SRW HDs sure seem to do ok.
    You were under all your weights so I’d send it. Plus you were doing 81 mph with a semi truck close by lol. I’d say the “bouncy” or side to side motion was a big non issue lol.

  • @FosterStrongman
    @FosterStrongman 11 месяцев назад +4

    I’ve always understood that payload goes out the window once you hook up to a trailer. Can’t accurately get the GVWR when you are attached so legally speaking all “enforceable” capacities revert to GCWR, GAWR and tire ratings.

  • @Squidwardtortaline
    @Squidwardtortaline 11 месяцев назад

    Best way to use the exhaust brake on these is push the gas peddle all the way in and let off it immediately. Not sure why but it’s the only way I feel like it turns on. I would be going down steep grades with trailers and that exhaust brake just wouldn’t really work until I started doing the gas pedal trick.

  • @vincebotkin1960

    Now that you know what the truck is capable of, time for the trailer.
    What is the capacity of your axles and how much weight is each one carrying?
    Go re weigh the trailer put one axle on the steer and the other axle on the drive scale.
    I found out I was over weight on both my 5,200 lb axles so I upgraded to 7,000 lb axles and springs.
    Now she floats when I hit those bumps on the road.

    in my opinion if you get 80psi tires that are kanati armor hog atx 305 70 18 they are 80psi rated at 4080lbs per tire and it should sway less

    Have you towed at night? My 2024 3500SRW DMax might as well not have High beams. My 5th Wheel pin weight at under 1200# and only squats 2”. Perhaps I just need to adjust my headlight aim. I have noticed a slight bounce while towing. Maybe I need a heavier 5er😆

    Don't know how you are under GVWR. I have a 2022 368mbi and my RAM 3500 SRW with a 12,300 GVWR was just enough when we weighed this summer. I came in at 12,280 on the truck. I did not detach and re-weigh because I was under the truck GVWR, rear and front axle ratings.

    When can we move on from everyone being stuck on this subject. Everyone says insurance etc. I have yet to see actual evidence someone was denied. But the internet knows everything 🤣. Mine is 42’ Brinkley. 15k. Insurance and dmv only asked how much I would be towing as far getting the right plates and insurance. So as far as me. Works fine.

    Im probably wrong everyone i talk to has a different anwser. I thought hitch weight was part of payload. So if your hitch is 2261 that would only leave you 594lbs of payload. But you are under the 11350 so that would mean your hitch weight is way less than keystone is advertising. Because all the stuff you had loaded would have made it even heaveir. Help me out im confused lol.

    Question: I have a 2020 GMC 2500HD DENALI and I am over my axle rating but good on payload. Axle weight loaded with my fifth wheel is 6720lbs and payload is 2600 lbs. Do I need to upgrade to 1ton or add air bags. New at this first RV. Thanks

    Just got rid of my 2024 GMC 2500 AT4 with the 6.6 gas engine. The engine and transmission combo is WONDERFUL. Ride was decent, interior was meh, nothing to get excited about. The main complaint about the GMC HD was the brakes... absolutely horrible. The other very disappointing part about the gasser HD was the truck weight. With a full fuel tank, it CAT scaled at 8010 lbs. My brand new 2023 F350 Tremor HO diesel weighed in at 8100. Not gonna miss the GMC AT ALL!

    The AT4X does not have the max trailering package option. You couldn’t done this safely with the regular AT4 with this package. Would’ve given you almost 4000 pounds of payload. Basically it’s a 3500.

    Pretty sure the term is glamping. There is nowhere in hell you are going to go up in the mountains with that monster trailer unless it's a KOA. Sure, some people think they can, but those are the tards that block the roads when their truck can't make it up the hill with a trailer that size.
