Ken, a true pioneer but its videos like this that embody his passion of rallying, sliding a MK2 Escort with Atko to an inch of its life. Quite possibly no other person has done as much for rallying in the 21st century, rest in peace Ken. One hell of a ride.
A day ill never forget. First time meeting Atko and i think the first time i saw KB's mk2 out. Will definitely miss these random times running into Ken and the team.
Really good to see a good ol' escort driven by a top driver of today's era, Escort's are the icons of rally and made it what it is today! Epic car, epic drivers, epic video!
As much as I'd like to think I could do this, I know I can't. It looks like a lot of fun, but also scary as hell lol. Awesome driving by both of them. I have a huge respect for racers, especially rally drivers.
Thats why we love the Ford escort "how much fun is this car!" quoted by Chris. I hope Chris gets his Rallye carreer running again, C'MON AUSSIE OI OI OI!
Couldn't agree more mate, people don't realise that the Escort is an Icon in the rally world, ands as you say they have a big price tag, I bog standard Mk1 or Mk2 in mint condition can be at the cost of today's "on the road rally cars". Love The Escort!
If you've never rallied, Team O'Neil will give you more experience driving and teach you the right way than you would learning by yourself for several rallies. It might not seem worth it at first glance, but once you do it and start rallying, it's worth every penny.
I had a '71 Mk1Mex stripped out, bubble arched, caged and lowered running a 130bhp 1750 x flow on twin 45's. Only did 110 but made you feel like a driving God and handled like a gocart on shellgrip.
One of my fav videos on RUclips ever!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd love to be at thiw school and I;d love to have an Escort like thiw Awesome car,fun to drive My congratulations Mr O'Neal ....
"""Here is a video that Ken Block sent me this morning of himself and fellow rally driver Chris Atkinson having some fun in Ken's 1978 Ford Escort. Under the hood sits a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Millington engine that boasts 280 BHP. It also is setup with WRC-styled paddle shifting and a six-speed sequential gearbox. I think this video does an incredible job of capturing the definition of fun! -Vaughn Gittin JR""""
Its a sequential box operated by paddles on the steering wheel, you can also push or pull the gear lever to shift up or down. The display changes to red when you hit the red line,.
It's an 1978 Ford Escort mate. Erm, I'm not too sure on the power steering obviously it wouldn't be standard, but I do think it's installed after market for the rallying.
ahaha....these two will be team mates at Rally Mexico in a few weeks....look out people...Chris Atkinson back in a WRC Car....MAGIC WILL HAPPEN!!!...SERIOUSLY!!!
Totally agreed mate. In the historic GP Boavista at Porto (the same circuit as WTCC) the Escort MK1's were running right along the 70's-80's Porsche's (in both cases really worked up cars).
@kevrs2 And Mk2's are so much fun to drive in wet and on gravel/ice. I had a 1.6 sport when I was 18 and it was a blast, wish I'd never got rid of it.... so sad I miss her.
mk2's with sequential boxes, crazy power engines and redesigned suspension like this one, makes national rallying amazing, when the racmsa try to turn it into a group n only sport comprised solely of evos and imprezas. fucking awesome video
@Tj1056 the shifter you noticed is linked to the paddle shifter system on the steering column which the driver can quick shift by pushing or pulling it makes handling easier and faster believe me it is awesome.
Check out the paddle on the wheel just by his right hand, that's what you shift with, the stick is just a backup, and for putting the car into reverse.
Awesome fun Chris. I tend to stick to tarmac and the Eskys still do very well there. Was the motor a BDA - G. Sounds fab! Also I'm doing my first tarmac rally as a navigator (only steered circuit till now) and I'm a little nervous. Any advice?
Its a good clip, love the car, but the days of Ari Vatenan driving these with the BDA and a H pattern gear box is definitely better, some real skill involved

43VER❤

It's no every day you see an American drive a "Real" rallycar. Love this alot...
RIP KB - Thanks for everything. The memories will stay.
Really good to see a good ol' escort driven by a top driver of today's era, Escort's are the icons of rally and made it what it is today!
Epic car, epic drivers, epic video!
Ggreat to see atkinson still out there driving since he hasnt been in the WRC since Ireland. Great driving and looks like a blast!

The ability of these drivers is amazing. Looks like so much fun.
As much as I'd like to think I could do this, I know I can't. It looks like a lot of fun, but also scary as hell lol. Awesome driving by both of them. I have a huge respect for racers, especially rally drivers.
At this day and age "Show" will take you a long way
You have to love the sound of a good 2.0 BDG
Its cars like this that make rallying what it is, long live the rwd madness :)
gotta love mk2 escorts. 30+ years and still kicking ass!
My first two cars were Escort's. Not as quick as this one, but I reckon I had just as much fun.
absolutely mint!! can we have some more?. smiling and laughing all the way through! bring back atko to wrc. he is missed..
Look at his face, Escort humbles Ken Block, what a rally machine, nothing can touch it for pure smile value.
Holy Moly that Mark 2 Escort drives like a dream... I LOOVE FAST FORDS ! GO BLOCK GO ATKINSON ! the best from the north, the best from the south.
drag races = 12 seconds of fun
rallying = total crazyness
Thats why we love the Ford escort "how much fun is this car!" quoted by Chris. I hope Chris gets his Rallye carreer running again, C'MON AUSSIE OI OI OI!
Rally just gotta be the most entertaining motorsport on earth!
It looks like so much fun!
Chris Atkinsons the man! look at how much fun his having!
this car is the grand daddy of rallying show some respect! My dream car
ken block is a rally racer and basically the face of gymkhana. He made the sport as popular as it is today.
i would give my left ball to live a life like this two chaps
Beast old car and great sound!!!
Couldn't agree more mate, people don't realise that the Escort is an Icon in the rally world, ands as you say they have a big price tag, I bog standard Mk1 or Mk2 in mint condition can be at the cost of today's "on the road rally cars". Love The Escort!
Great video! Thanks to DC for uploading all these great and fun videos keep it up! Btw LOVE KEN BLOCK
Probably one of my favorite cars
Rest in Peace Ken ❤

Every time I watch a video like this I wish I never got rid of my MkII Escort XL!!!!
THIS CAR LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE
the founder of DC shoes and king of gymkhana
I love the Escort Mk2s. Thumbs up!
Chris Atkinson and Ken Block would make a great team next year

That sequential shifter is DOPE!
Beautiful stuff guys, thanks for filming! US RALLY SONNN
I had fun just watching this video

Block + Escort Mk2 = Epic
It's an 1978 Ford Escort mate.

This is driving and having lots of fun !
Great Escort MK II, one of the best car made for the rally´s and good looking too !!
yeaaah this is the best rally car ! RWD 4EVER ;) great video
These RWD vehicles are a lot more fun to watch than the AWD ones IMO.
Totally agreed mate. In the historic GP Boavista at Porto (the same circuit as WTCC) the Escort MK1's were running right along the 70's-80's Porsche's (in both cases really worked up cars).
Block + Ford RS200... This needs to happen.
Love the car
OMG that looks like so much fun. Now if only I had the money.......
cant wait to see them in WRC next year.
Tim O'Neil Rally school is open to the public and is a great way to get into rally.
That car and the way he drives it is hideously beautiful, lol.
That looks like so much fun!
Ken's just laughing his ass off the whole time!
They make it look so easy.
im not gonna lie....THAT WAS EFFING AWESOME....i gosta rallye my ranger now...BAD ASS
back in the days when both drove subarus those were the days
Don't think Pastrana will be too bothered. He's one of the most iconic motocross riders of all time, and is pretty quick in a car too!
That looks like a damn fun Group 5 car!!!!
@kevrs2 And Mk2's are so much fun to drive in wet and on gravel/ice. I had a 1.6 sport when I was 18 and it was a blast, wish I'd never got rid of it.... so sad I miss her.
There are "feather" style paddles on the wheel. Notice when the camera is showing the driver, the thing behind the wheel is the paddle. Kickass car :D
I really hope Atkinson gets a ride next season
Dang that looks like so much fun.
by the way the long stick on the right side of the steering wheel is a shift stick. the handbreak is the smaller one behind the large one.
this shit is AWESOME! an euroford, and lots of fun! nice gearbox 2!
It's a manual with sequential shifting. The shifter itself has an actuator that's controlled by the paddle on the steering column.
I was just about to say " What about the cozy!" The cosworth is an immense car even as standard!
Great stuff!
I had a 78 mark 2, same round headlights and colour and everything. I miss that car....
Amazing video!
This is what rallying is all about
mk2's with sequential boxes, crazy power engines and redesigned suspension like this one, makes national rallying amazing, when the racmsa try to turn it into a group n only sport comprised solely of evos and imprezas. fucking awesome video
man that car is awsome!!!
this is what they do for a living play in the dirt with cars.... AWESOME
@Tj1056 the shifter you noticed is linked to the paddle shifter system on the steering column which the driver can quick shift by pushing or pulling it makes handling easier and faster believe me it is awesome.
That looks like a blast!
Is that auto though or are they paddle-shifting? So fast i can't realize which it is... That's one LOUD gearbox though ^__^
looks really fun
And these guys get paid to do this............best job in the world!
love all the people bagging on the escort here. no respect for the classic rally cars.
That escort MK2 is incredible. I'd love to own one.
Dam that looks hella fun :D
this mk2 and the metro 6r4 have to be the best of all time rally cars(in my opinion) what do you ppl think?
that was jus amazing but is block for sure in wrc next year?
Finely he drives a Real Car FORD
en he loves it hearing him smile
Check out the paddle on the wheel just by his right hand, that's what you shift with, the stick is just a backup, and for putting the car into reverse.
Awesome fun Chris. I tend to stick to tarmac and the Eskys still do very well there. Was the motor a BDA - G. Sounds fab!
Also I'm doing my first tarmac rally as a navigator (only steered circuit till now) and I'm a little nervous. Any advice?
that car is AMAZING!!!! prettycool Man, not bad
Now thats a proper rally car
looks like great fun
No, there's a paddle on the steering wheel that also has linkage to the transmission.
Its a good clip, love the car, but the days of Ari Vatenan driving these with the BDA and a H pattern gear box is definitely better, some real skill involved
Here, ma boi Jari-Matti Latvala: ruclips.net/video/EWBOKD6fGu0/видео.html
Thanks ma man! Only took nearly 6 years for a response haha! 😂
Atkinson have very great skill driving...
I believe they using Rally Pedal shifter... means there is a pedal shifter on the right which you pull for upshifts and push for downshifts
Yeah , very nice.
It looks As they have many Fun As much.
my dream car
block is the man
Hjgugkvkufkvkdkdkflgkfjfmlhlgkdgqtgkhkhkfkdhsjwkekeek
