old vid but still important lmao...Hey thanks for actually showing how and what to do so I can get the rear done...I just replaced everything up front, I mean jba uca and lower, ball joints tie rods, struts, clevis bolts...A real pain in the arse...everyone else just fast forwards through it then you are at the mercy of that...I got a WK and took me 16 hours counting store runs and coffee, eating, cigs stuff like that...2.5 inch lift gave me 4 almost 5 inches of lift...its crazy simple but everything in the salt belt is rusted (demon clevis bolt on lower control arm) I ordered two new bolts and it was the wrong one...lots of problems to run into ..its done though posting a vid todayon it...once again man thanks so much!
Did the same lift and same size tires with no spacers though. I'm satisfied with it since I don't use it for off roading since the huge tires rub and hit everything in the well. 🤤I wish I could do a 4 or 6 inch lift but that would cost way too much to do. Spacers will be the next thing I buy. Great vid my friend!!!
im in the same situation. Went shopping for car for myself and ended up buying her a new car. So i get the commander. P.S. dont bring wifes with when buying a car for yourself
Little update, vehicle came back from the alignment and it needs adjustable ball joint to correct too negative camber. So for anyone doing this project, make sure you do the alignment. Otherwise you can wear your tires out fast and unevenly.
I have added the link in the video's description! Thanks! You can do the alignment first and see how much negative the camber is, then install the ball joint. To correct negative camber you basically need to move the top of the knuckle away from the strut.
Hey, I know this is an older video, however I was just curious on what tire size you would run instead for the tires so they wouldn’t rub at full lock. I don’t want to get into trimming lol.
TDR Auto The arm is rubbing against the shock it just started doing that. I used the better Shock you recommend it and same tires and spacers. Thank you
Update; I have been driving this set up for a while and I can tell you get what you pay for. If you want good on and offroad performance, think about upgrading these struts/shocks, like Bilstein.
TDR Auto thanks bro I was about to click the button on Amazon but I figured I scoll through the comments to make sure! I tink I'm gunna go with Rancho or Blisten.
Start the lower sway bar bolt by hand not with an impact , as it will cross thread . Good job though, I've done this twice now, first time was billstein HD's , They lasted 8 years, now I just put on munroe quick struts.
I put that kit on the front and I had to remove it because if the width of the lift spacers is 2", the vehicle rises much more, since the front strut assembly rests on the middle of the lower suspension arm, not on the wheel hub. Then hit the transmission axle in the fork when the suspension is extended. I put another system (heavymetal suspensions) changing for a longer forks. And to correct camber, I use JBA Upper A-arms for lifted WK/XK
J E just clarifying that with the installation of the 2” lift the stance also changes, and the front no longer rests lower than the rear. I’ve attempted once already to install this lift, which is sitting in my garage in the box. I got as far as removing the lower clevis bolt( lower strut fork) bolt and it seemed to be overly seized, I did soak it with lubricant for serval days and was still unable to beat the bolt loose.. Any Inputs Please?
@@d.mclean6300 I just did mine. Call jeep and order 2 new bolts and nuts and save the headache. As for removing, I had to cut the bolts out. Then the whole bushing sleeve came out which basicly renders the lower control arm shot. So pending on miles and where your located (mine was 136k miles and from the north east, with the ammount of disassembly, maybe new lower control arms are the way to go. That's what I did. It added like 250 bucks to the project cost but I plan on keeping my commander indefinitely so it was a worth wild investment in my opinion
I suggest getting a front diff drop if they have it. I got the 3 inch RC lift for my 3rd gen 4Runner which didn't come with the diff drop but I got one separate. Took a lot of the angle out of my front axles. But great job...looks great! If I can find one of these Commanders for less than a million bucks in my neck of the woods, it's gonna be my next project.
BuddyLe3 Thanks for the tip, I'll let my buddy know. I'll be doing lift to my Forester and it comes with subframe spacers to ease off the stress and keep the camber in check.

Hi TDR auto. Great lift. Got myself an '09 Commander, bought a suspension lift just like yours. I don't want to install it cos they said I need front differentials. How was your CV axle after your lift was installed? Thanks.
Hi , did you put new suspensions at the rear, should I do so, or can I keep the original. I will really appreciate the link of all the parts you installed. Thanks for the informative video.
I just bought a commander. Lifted with 3 inches in the front. But it makes a rubbing/grinding cranking sound when turning. The previous owner says it's because the lift is too high. So it needs a 2 inch instead of a 3 inch. But another person says I need wheel spacers. What exactly could it be?
I did not but I did have to replace upper control arm on passenger side only because it was worn. When I got bigger tires I added 1.5 wheel spacers to fit 265/70/17

Getting ready for spacers after my lift install. Thanks for the vid. Did I see you put red locktite before you put the spacer on? Maybe anti seize? not sure. Any thoughts? I was just going to locktite the lugs......which I think you didn't do.

I did mine the same but it's makes alot of noise when driven like my tire is about to fly of the rim please help if you have any idea on what it could be everything all bolts are tight I just don't have any idea on what it could be
It's a 2007 Jeep Commander
Sorry to hear that. Did you check your tires have enough space between the strut and also the wheel wells? Are your wheel spacers correctly installed and torqued?
did you used extended shocks
Joshenko Cobos No sir
Did you had to get longer rear shock absorbers?
Trucker Danny My buddy used shock extensions on the bottom.
What kind of wheel well mods are required to run that size of tire?
N J
Removing front wheel liners and either cuting the pinch welded body seams or hammer them flat - not pretty. On the right side removing or relocating the heater and or AC lines, basicaly bypassing the rear climate control. You might get away with some bending and repositioning of heater hose clams.
