I started carving about two months ago and I just can’t thank you enough for all the time and effort you’ve put into all of your videos. If it wasn’t for you and this channel I would have never started out this amazing journey and what has turned out to be my new favorite hobby
He’s the best man. I paid $20 for a month of “woodcarving academy” online and all the lessons on there are aren’t nearly as in depth or as clear in instruction as Doug.. I cancelled that and pretty much only watch Doug now.. a littttleeee gene messer but nobody’s as good as Doug 👍
At 73 yrs old, you have talked me into a new hobby! Thank you for the great slow paced videos and for sharing your expertise. I've always loved working with wood, but having moved into a small apartment with no place for larger power tools, this is just what I needed to keep my retirement days busy. Thanks again, I'm lovin' it.
Nice to get back to basics and just have some fun whittling. The beauty of these characters is that you can do them with virtually any size scrap pieces you have lying around
This was awesome man thank you! Makes great quick little gifts and like you said doesnt hurt to bad to give them away. Im gonna make some and hide a few around the office for folks to take home and hopefully brighten their day. Cheers!
I just ordered so tools to get started and I CANNOT wait until they get here! I'm so excited to start after watching a bunch of your videos. I've wanted to try for so long but just never got the guts to do it untl watching you so THANK YOU!
On my 52nd carving since taking it up at the start of the covid lockdowns and about 49 of them are your creations. 😁 Thanking you for all your hard work, time and effort in taking us newbies through all the steps. Looking forward to the next one.
Hey Doug, I want to thank you for helping an old carver get back into the hobby. I've been a carver ever since i can remember, my G. grandfather taught me basic cuts what seems like a lifetime ago, but as is normal life and work got in the way until carving was a thing of the past. I've been watching your videos for a while and this little gnome, and you, just made me want to pick back up my knives and make some chips. My hands aren't what they use to be but the knife feels natural in my hand again and my gnome came out a little rough but it sure was a fun couple of hours. So again i wanted to say thank you, i now plan on taking my "carving jack" on the dump truck with me and carving while i wait on loads. Keep up the good work and stay safe my friend.
Mr. Linker this is the best video for beginners you have ever made! I have watched them all, and this one taught me things I had yet to learn from you. Thanks so much!💕
Thanks again, Doug, for a great little whittle that can be done just about anytime and anywhere without too much concentration. Make one while the dinner cooks to put in the middle of the table, sort of thing!
I enjoy all your videos, but these simpler carvings are so fun for those times when you just want to sit down and whittle something quick and easy. Thank you!
I love these little carvings. I started with you little Santa magnet, the most satisfyingly simple carving and have been at it since. Thanks so much for your videos and ideas. It's an amazing pastime, it's quiet and fun. Big change from work when you're a mechanic like I am lol
I'm starting today! My tools arrived yesterday along with my basswood. Can't wait! Thanks for all your encouragement and teaching. Gosh, I'm even speaking Canadian now!!
I really enjoyed your videos, thank you. I started by watching about carving on my walking sticks and now I can't wait to carve one of these little guys!!!
Thank you for your videos. I've been carving about a year now and most of it has been your hillbillies. I am starting to make my own version of them. I enjoy your videos and looking forward to seeing more. I'm going to try carving a gnome out of a utility pole this summer. Thanks again Danny
This is awesome Doug. I just got my flex cut knife and my no cut Glove and i got a 3day weekend.. I also listened to carving and coffee podcast today. I am a podcast junkie and glad to have found yours.
I have learned a great deal from your any-experience-level videos. Thank you for everything you do! I just wish I could show you the carvings you 've inspired.
I find myself going thru a real bad time in life. Stumbling across your channel has really helped me to keep going. I got a cheap set of carving knives and I find your tutorials so easy to follow. I have a lot of practice to do in order to be happy with my own work but you make me feel like I can get there. Thank you for all of your videos
I don't know if you ever saw my Instagram story that I linked you on, but I called you the Bob Ross of carving. This video just confirms it 100%. I need to buy you more coffees. I love your work and tutorials so much!
Hello Doug I started carving about 3months ago and really enjoy it ! I was introduced to it by a close friend but haven't progressed much until I watched your video "choose your gnome" it has been soooo helpful my knife skills have improved exponentially thanks to your videos. Thank you for what you do will be following your videos closely.
I made a snowboarder dude, wearing a beanie with goggles or sunglasses(where the buckle was meant to be) and a pom-pom ball on top to set it all off!! Thank you Mr. Doug🏂
I love this channel ;) I’ve just bought my first knife flexicut and I want to start just now but waiting for safety glove ;) I need my fingers😅 I can’t wait to start! We will see!!! Who is starting with me in 2023? Wish you all luck.
I really like your approach, your simplicity, and humor. You truly make these carvings FUN! All the while achieving a quality and precise carving. Keep helping us out. Love your videos. Thank you ever so much from Wisconsin.
You’re my favorite whittler on RUclips by far! Your videos are so much more in depth then anybody else’s. You bring such a unique and informative way to whittling in my opinion. I always look forward to your videos!
Wanted to start whittling and dident know wear to start surched for ages . Then came across your videos it's amayzing made some little bits and have lurnt things on the way . Love your work a great inspiration.
Great job! Love your work. I’ve always wanted to carve and have been carving for two years all because of you and your easy methods to learn. People are now asking me to do paid work for them. Thank you Doug.
Always love your videos and tutorials thank you so much!! I saw some little carved faces on a walk through the wood near me came home found your channel and from there believed I might be able to make them too, I've not looked back you're such a good teacher thank you for my new hobby!!! Xx
Just finished the Leprechaun today ! Great tutorial..Turned out great. Thanks for all that you put out on carving. I have completed many of your carvings. Been carving about 6 most now and doing your projects are a fantastic learning experience.
Must say I enjoyed doing this one, like all your carvings! Also, you have a great verbal demeanor in putting us relatively new carvers 'at ease' that its about enjoying the carving. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Doug! I'm still here even though I haven't made a coment...as I'm sure MANY, MANY other's have also... I REALLY enjoy your short, simple projects as it gives me sooo many ideas that I can carve for my grand children to play with and 'maybe' inspire them and their parents to become wood carvers also... Wonderful presentation and now I have sooo many ther ideas to carve similar simple and quick projects! AGAIN!!! Thanks sooo much for all you do and inspire in ALL of us!!!
Hey Doug, I love your videos. You have taught me so much about whittling. I watch all your videos, I think? I have not however, seen a video of you stropping a knife. I would love to see your technique on stropping. Thanks for all your carving education!! Much appreciated 👍
Thank you Doug for yet one more little project. These are great little practice carvings - not a ton of details to worry about. Many different little characters from the same “design” & lots of room to improvise & customize. Perfect. 👍👏🏻👏🏻
It's always a pleasure watching you carve and listening to your insights as you work your way through. I'm already envisioning a variation of the St. Patrick's Day one to become an Uncle Sam. Keep up the great work Doug.
Hey Doug, I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time and care you take to make all of these videos! I got into whittling because of them, and it's opened up my life in the most unforeseen ways lol I'm very happy I found your channel and I hope to keep watching and carving until I can't or I cut off some fingers 😂 Thank you and have a great day! 🪵🔪🪵
Woohoo a leprechaun. Just getting back into wood carving and whittling. Making special little treats for each of my kids the finished a mushroom fairy house for my youngest now doing a leprechaun for my middle St Patty's Day daughter.
when you carve, it looks like you're carving soap....when I carve ...its definitely NOT! LOL! Thank you for making these videos, I just started and getting better with each one.
Hi Doug. First I want to thank you. I decided to learn how to carve after having Neck surgery. I needed something constructive to do while I sat on my butt healing. My first project was Pocket Penguin. I made six of them Including Ice blocks. I have carved several of your other Beginner projects including Chose your Gnome. I am now carving little stylized whales and Whale tail scoops with a direction of learning to carve realism. Thank you so much for your videos as I would not have gotten this far with out your Guidance. I love my new hobby and using it to bring joy to others gifting my creations. One day I garbed a hard wood shaving brush and carved a very simple Viking in to it. I am getting ready to carve another Shaving Brush but want it to be a Gnome or Hillbilly with Bare Feet. Which leads me to my question. Can you do a video on Hillbilly style Bare Feet? Thank you again for all your help and consideration. Sincerely Brian
🤣 Great puns! Nice carvings! Love your videos. Great instructions and demonstrations. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 👌 😃
I had done some carvings with you in the past but after I bad cut I put it aeay for awhile. Just got back into it today. Thanks for another great video! I'd love to see some Viking guys!
Easy. Beautiful. Nice. Simple. So cuuuute. And so hepful for us beginners. Thank you so much for all the effort you put in your channel. And please, never stop doing it. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
Brilliant yet again Doug. Started carving about a year ago after watching " the most fantastically simple carving" the 3 minute wizard, how do i buy you a coffee? I feel like i owe you one.
This video I hadn’t seen and it just tickled me because I was carving a few small gnomes out of leftover pieces to try to whittle something using the skills I’ve learned from you and up pops this video. My only adjustment is to make my hat smaller with each carve but was doing that anyway. I am not a perfect carver by a long shot, but I am getting the concept-process down to try just about anything because you have introduced the concept which leads to many different carvings. And, I about yelled out to myself that this gnome is just like the 5 minute wizard
I started carving about two months ago and I just can’t thank you enough for all the time and effort you’ve put into all of your videos. If it wasn’t for you and this channel I would have never started out this amazing journey and what has turned out to be my new favorite hobby
