I hope you can use these tips for organizing your sewing room. It’s quite amazing what a difference they can make. Even implementing just a couple of them can increase your enjoyment in your space...and that just spills over into other areas of your life. Enjoy
I am looking for the link!

Your teachings are so practical and applicable. I am redoing my sewing area and have limited space. You have the best information of any site I visited. Thank you!!!
Where do you get tables? I work from a snack tray and it’s too small 😊
@@lindamorrison2758 I too am looking for a link..the one for the ironing station???
Enjoyed this video a lot. I'm a retired commercial seamstress and one thing we always did was to stop 15 min. before day's end, and clean our space, sweep the floor, put everything away, clean and oil the machine, empty the trash, and if you live in a dusty area.... or have cats in your sewing space... take a sheet and cover the whole machine/table area to keep it clean. It was always so refreshing to come to work, with everything clean and ready to go.
Commercial embroiderer same.
What a great idea. This is helpful when you only have 20-30 minutes to sew. I can sometimes run home for lunch and get an amazing amount of piecing done, if everything's ready for me to just sit and sew or press, whatever the next step is.
I’m not commercial but I do that when I sew and before I leave my room
Great Idea
I put my tv on mute so I can watch you at night. I watch you over and over. I love our lessons and try to put them to use. I do not watch others. Rather than teaching just quilts. I like your other ideas and lessons. Other than lessons. For a quilt all the time. Lessons for organization are always open. I think I like your common sense ideas the best.
Karen, for people with any kind of hearing disorder or brain injury, it would be EXTREMELY HELPFUL if you would either use no music at all in the background. Or if you feel you absolutely have to have it - for some odd reason - at least put it at about 10% of the volume level that you had it on in this video. Thank you so much!!
I am floored at four thumbs down. Having a bad day people? If you have a problem then spit it out. I am really curious because this is about the most comprehensive talk on this subject. I’ve followed these ideas and creativity and efficiency in my studio has flourished. Thanks for another great discourse.
Must be none quilters
The dislike button tells RUclips they don’t want more quilting videos. Maybe they aren’t quilters. There is no other possibility because everyone loves Karen. 🥰
Best info I've found and I have read and watched many blogs & vlogs on the subject.
I know! I'm not a quilter but these sewing room declutter videos are about the best on You Tube. I'm just so glad I found Karen and her channel. Actually starting my declutter today and I'm so inspired ❤
I have ADHD and these tips will work for organising anything, not just sewing space. Your point about having too many barriers to what you need is so true!
From Denmark...
Loving your videos. 😊👏🏻
In this coronatime I have being binging ALL your videos...
Being danish I haven’t your historic tradition about quilts. BUT I have takling it up again after 32 years. (Made one when I was very young from scraps)
Now I have ordered fabric for two quilts AND ordered a new sewing machine, 😱 ALL online, as all shops are closed.
Your videos have given me my ‘glow’ back. (am watching them in the morning, in bed etc...)
Tomorrow I will start my first quilt in 32 years!
Thank you!
Lots of loving greetings from Denmark, Gitte
"you put items into nooks - don't do it, you will never remember what you put there" ....wryly remembers this very afternoon when I opened a shoebox and found all my christmas projects tucked away.... just after Christmas. Of course.
You are simply...well, just AWESOME. So incredibly relatable. I sat here with my head nodding thru the entire video. I'm in the midst of reorganizing my DIFFERENT zones: My paper crafts, watercolors, color works, but most importantly, my quilting. I've been quilting since the 80's and even tho one of my best buddies owned a quilt shop, I find you the most (repeating self!) relatable with your explanations. I'm the retired ceramicist 73 year old stalker that loved your pre-covid spiky hair. (I sooo need a haircut!). While we designed, produced, marketed and shipped dinnerware country-wide for over 20 years, we always turned to quilting for the opposite tactile feel of hard clay and soft fabrics. Quilting become our escape and has followed us for a very long time. Thanks so much for all you generously share with us!
I have my sewing treasures and machines in. 3 different rooms. I am hoping soon to get the whole clan of treasures together. So I did get a few more ideas from this video on how to get these items talking to each other that I am using some of the ideas. Thanks ever so much. 🎉💕🇨🇦
The pandemic caused me to get organized in a big way. I started drawer by drawer and room by room, all of my fabric is now folded and stored so everything is visible and findable. I organized my WIPs in plastic boxes that are normally used to store scrapbook paper, they are 12x12, so almost all of the blocks fit in them and lay flat, so minimized the wrinkles. I organized the drawers by my sewing space many times before getting a workable solution. I don’t have a work triangle as my sewing space is a very tiny den in a very tiny condo, so I use my kitchen table for cutting and ironing. Being unorganized kept me from doing what I love most and now I can sew when I want without having to move heaven and earth to get started. Your tips and tricks are so practical and doable. Thanks from the bottom of my heart!
Small space organization is coming
I wish I could make the triangle in the same room! lol! Right now, my cutting table is the dining room table on risers and my big ironing board is in another bedroom. However, I do have little cutting board & wool mat on my sewing suite table so that’s a plus. Also hang my scissors from a heavy duty jewelry tree on the dresser that holds the TV & stores sheets & some material. Remember entertainment centers? That’s how I store new material in plastic containers. The bigger scraps are rolled around comic book acid free boards and stored under bedside tables in a covered basket. The chest of drawers holds all other sewing & quilting supplies. Rulers are in a couple of racks, one hanging on a wall & the other on top of the entertainment center. I’m ALL IN for this hobby that has taken all my extra money & time. Yes! I’m addicted & I love it!
Karen, I could completely relate to this video! I shove this and than shove more in front, just like you demonstrated. Your ideas will be helpful. Thank you.
I know I keep leaving comments telling you how great your videos are, but I cannot help it! You just did it AGAIN! I would have to be a polydactyl to count on all my didgits how many times you have made break throughs into my little pea brain with your infinite knowledge! I have probably seen a hundred organizational videos for sewi g rooms alone, not to mention all the ones for household. But you managed to actually say something I didnt know and had not heard. You made complete sense out of the mad chaotic cycle that is creating! If a person could spend a day with you, I think they could become a sewi g geniu s! Keep up the good work.
Thank you Julie
Thank you so much. I am going to try and organize my room. I do kind of have like things together.
As someone with ADHD, it's so validating to see videos like this. Where rule #1 is forgive yourself and function > form. Great tips and great video!!!
Yes I totally understand and agree with Karen’s philosophy. Don’t beat yourself up. I too suffer from ADHD.😊
This entire series has been incredibly helpful! I got more from a quilter RUclips than from a professional organizing website.
Your personality, wisdom and perspective are priceless! I’m new to sewing so covering all the foundation info and explaining why you recommend what you do was key for me. Thank you!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
The tray for your project is brilliant!
My husband's motto has always been "A place for everything and everything in it's place." I joke that my motto is "Everything is someplace!" LOL That said, I do find that when I do go to tidy up, it is so much quicker to do when I actually do have a place for everything so I don't have to figure out where to put it. Another trick/tip I try to use is to tidy up after every project once it's finished. All the unused fabric, patterns, etc. need to be put away and surfaces cleared off.
Thank you for your delightful, inspirational videos!
Hands down, Karen consistently gives the most detailed, practical and cost effective tips of any vlogs I’ve watched and there were many! Thanks, Karen you are my “go to”!
Wow, thank you!
"Sometimes we end up putting containers inside of other containers" ....have you been in my sewing room?! 😳😳😳 haha! I can't wait to implement these awesome tips!
Great video, Karen!!! I've been sewing for many years and have done many "types" of sewing. I've sewn my children's clothing and made many fabric dolls and toys for them. Then there was a season of making dolls, rabbits, and bears for sale in a craft guild. I've also made totes and bags for use and for sale. In between all that, I'd also make quilts. So, the organization of my sewing space has had to change according to the type of sewing I was doing. For instance, making doll clothes requires a lot of different notions: ribbons, buttons, elastic and such. Totes and clothing required all types of interfacing and hardware. Now, my sewing mostly consists of making quilts. I also knit and crochet, which takes up some of the storage space in my small sewing/laundry room. It's a constant juggle to arrange the zones to make them highly functional. You have shared some great ideas in this video and you've inspired me to keep trying for that "magical" configuration that makes all my crafting endeavors play nicely together. LOL! Indeed, it takes a lot of "creativity" to make our "creative" spaces functioning so that we can keep the "creative" juices flowing. Love your ideas and your videos!
It's a constant evolution. And we can enjoy the ride.
These zones are quite a bit like the way a permaculture property is organized. Cool!
I love to organize but never seem to get it “perfect” and so often end up discouraged and avoid doing it. If your advice and tips save me only 10 minutes a day, then that’s 60 extra hours a year!! You are awesome! Declutter vs. organize. I never understood this. You’ve inspired me!
🥰💕Thanks best challenge ever! Thanks for listing the order because I lost a day or two. I didn’t want to miss anything. Funny story.. As soon as you began today’s video my squirrel brain saw your Hexi jar behind you! I immediately JUMPED UP to put my hexis into a jar!!!!! My brain! Thank God you inspired me to use my timer! What a game changer!!! It brought me right back to focus on my project I was working on. My ah ha moment💃🏻I have been collecting my hexis for an eye spy grandma quilt for one day when I have grandchildren & it’s alllll the hexis from all my children’s projects & all my scraps from dear projects. So because I saw your hexi jar I wrote on the outside of my jar Grandmother’s Flower Garden! It’s perfect! I did the same for my black & white hexis & my black & white YoYo’s. Loved your inspiration! Now back to my quilt! Haha Mariaknits27 🥰💕🧵🧶🏠👍👍💃🏻
Those darn squirrels
When I am done for the day, I put on a 10 minute playlist with upbeat music and a driving bassline to tidy my sewing room. Really helps make the space clear and nice when I come back. I always start with "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago.
Love that!
I used to do that with housework and a rock 'n' roll oldies radio station on at full volume. Great idea for tidying up the sewing room too.
great idea and great tune!
KeonaChick Thisis great! My new clean up song!
"25 or 6 to 4" it is! I wonder if we'll be like Pavlov's dogs who salivated when they heard the bell? If I hear our song when I'm not home, will I have the urge to tidy up the space in? lol
Thankyou soo much Ms. KAREN!
PRACTICAL? YES!!!!
Now......lets just do it!!!!
Got home from work at 8am, was suppose to be relaxing to go to sleep. Started watching your u-tube videos, and can’t stop! Good thing I don’t have to work tonight. Trying to re-organize my sewing room, and your ideas are great!
I use an address book to list where I have put things that I use less frequently and projects. An example would be that if I am looking for zippers, I would look under “Z” and it might say third shelf North wall”. It works for me!
I have an old office rolodex that will work perfectly. Thanks!
How is it I've never read your answer before? We're away, but once home I'll also get a small address book to find items. Mind you, I've labelled everything inside my room, and still manage to loose a few things 😂
Great idea!
Very clever!
I just found your channel. I don’t quilt but I do sew for Samaritan Shoe boxes. Wow you have so many excellent organization ideas. I found your channnel first on a dollar store run you did, it was so useful that I decided to become a subscriber.😉💐
I will be moving in 7ish months. These videos have given me good food for thought.
You"re a genius! Finally, a thinking person solving sewing room issues to improve function! Thank you! THANK YOU!
This is the very best video and I do mean a guide to tidy up and place sewing items into sections on how often we used them. I’ve seen many, and learnt bits from them on creativity…but this places EVERYDAY ITEMS, then secondary and tertiary items…thanks so much!
We have a Polish painter doing our walls and ceilings this weeks, so I can’t get into much sewing room much at all…but it will give me the opportunity to cull and tidy up, then I’ll have my room re painted and organise it ! Thanks so much for your lovely video!
polish painter?
@@nuvoclassic yes, we live in Brisbane Australia, but the painter was originally from Poland!! Lovely man!
You are a GENIUS! My hubs and I are both watching as he is able to carry these principles to his “playroom” in the garage and we both are looking at our shared office space with fresh eyes. Thank you so much!
Karen I wish we could give you more than 1 thumbs up .That was a 2 for sure ! I am in the middle of a project and then I am going to declutter .
Lots of good common sense ideas, thanks!
I'm at the beginning of my sewing journey and live in an RV. Watched this for tips, and thank you. I sew at my dinette with an office chair tackle box of tools open on the dinette seat. Snips on the table. Behind me within arm's reach, I'm lucky to have a fairly large breakfast bar counter that's my cutting/ironing area. Once I'm done with anything, I put it all the way away. When done for the day, Ikea table-top ironing board goes in closet. Cutting mat behind sofa. Measuring tools in their place. Tackle box in its cupboard, and sewing machine covered an stowed unseen below dinette. Two minutes tops. Everything goes all the way to its place daily.
Your videos ar my favorite. Perhaps it is because I like what you have to say. I learned to quilt by video.Inam a fabric aholic. I finally reached my saturation point however Inam now in love with precuts.
I dream of '..but looks like this'. :)
I just love this entire series. I can’t think of anyone who could break it down as well as you.
Thank you
Agreed
You have inspired me to organize my sewing space and I’m following your great ideas. Thank you
Invaluable not only for sewing part of tiny house, part for organising tiny house!!!
👍
I am in the process of reorganizing my quilt/craft space. It worked at first but now my daughter lives with me and so I really wanted a setup where we could quilt or craft together. Essentially 4 stations as mixing quilting and paper, resin and paint is a recipe for disaster. Anyway try as I might it would not all fit. I ended up getting rid of my cutting table. Drastic for sure but I had to decide between both of us in the room or one of us and the table. When I bought it it fit my space beautifully but now it didn’t so it’s gone to a good home. I’m still working on configurations but your ironing station on wheels has made me realize that I can put wheels on my papercraft organizational cubes which I have stacked and which can be bolted together!! That may well be the last piece off the puzzle.
THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN SOOOOOO HELPFUL!!! THANK YOU❤
Enjoying the replay ❤
I love the idea of the zones. However, I’ve consciously moved some things a couple of steps away. This is to ensure I get up from the machine frequently. I seize up if I sit too long, it’s bad for my back and knees. Having said that, I have like stored with like. Clear containers in plain sight on shelves.
One thing I’ve found very useful is to have a bin beside the cutting station and another beside the sewing station. Clippings of threads and scraps go straight in there. I can then decide if it goes in the rubbish or into stuffing for toys etc.
I use apps for cataloguing fabrics and patters.
I have a separate container of needles and scissors for hand sewing, so it’s portable. I can do the finishing in any room, in the car, or at break times at work.
This is how I organize too. I keep the essentials like a stitch ripper, snips, and bobbins handy, but thread and other items are stored a few steps away so that I have to get up and go get them. I too need to move around.
I finally had a chance to start decluttering after watching your videos and wouldn't you know it - Squirrels! They were everywhere!! I had to laugh, take your advice and write them down so I could deal with them after decluttering. I just want to thank you for your great advice. I'm not quite done, but I feel a lot better about my sewing room now. Can't wait for you to share ideas on storing fabrics!
Karen, thanks for your teaching skills that make it easy for us to learn from you. I have been sewing for about 60 years, and I am learning things from you that never occurred to me. I’m eager to have your new video about organizing the fabric stash. Mine is out of control, which suggests that my real hobby is buying fabric. I’m glad I found you.
Thank you so much for your videos. I have just watched three (or was it four) on the run, and I am now ready to attack my sewing room and my conservatory painting room, maybe followed by the utility room and then the garage. Then there’s the garden shed! They could all do with some of your great wisdom. Thanks from Cheshire in the UK. 😃👏👏👏
Hi! It's amazing to know that you are a normal person with the normal difficulties
Sometimes it seems so large huge to declutter. I have many places to declutter in my house. I get overwhelmed. Thank you for your ideas .
Work at it 15 minutes at a time. You'll be amazed at how much you can do. I tidy up while I am waiting for my kettle to boil and even that 5 minutes can produce results you can see
Finish with a clear space - helps everything. But so hard to stop 5 minutes before I have to! One idea, get ready for whatever I'm rushing off to next (get dressed, pack purse/meeting materials, find keys) before I start to sew! I don't always do it of course, but it really helps when I do.
Containers in containers in containers.... Oh how I laughed at this bit😂🤣😅
I found this video very helpful. I tend to make my zones a bit wider so I will HAVE to get out of my chair, even a little bit, so I have to move more. If I sit too long in one position I pay for it. So my scissors are handy, but on a shelf that I have to reach for. My rulers are a step away, up and down helps me in the long run. But definitely need this organisation to make my method work too. Thank you for your practical wisdom!
My favorite tip is to clean up your area after you are finished. Just as I love to come into a spotless kitchen first thing in the morning, I also love and am more inspired when I come into my sewing area and its all clean and ready to work!
I find it much easier to keep my kitchen in order aha my sewing room! I NEVER leave dirty dishes out on the counter. Since my hubby does dishes now that he's retired I've had to agree to leave the dish drainer on the counter rather than in the sink basin that it fits into!
Good morning Karen. It’s goi g to be a beautiful day in Sydney, Australia today. It’s 7.50am and I’m getting ready to have a day quilting my Underground Railway quilt. As always lots of great ideas. Have a wonderful day. 🍃
i really liked that you suggested only 3 projects at one time this is my biggest concern since i tend to work on too many projects at a time thank you : )
Fantastic tips. I had an ahh haa moment several months ago when I was watching an organization video by Lorena's Quilts. I grew up in a family where even if there was money available, I had to make do with what I had.
In her video Lorena, who does commercial machine embroidery from home as well as LAQ, showed how she had all the tools she needed at each of her embroidery machines, similar to you have thread snips at your sewing machine and your ironing station. It saves so much time looking for an item that is not where you need it, if you buy a second container of machine oil, or another paid of snips, or needle threaders for each sewing or action station.
Ha..really enjoyed this, but really got a good laugh. My sewing space is a closet that my husband set up for me..3/4 of my sewing space is zone 1..I can swivel my chair and reach almost everything...some good tips..loved it
That is awesome!
Keep these organizational helps coming.
My head is above water lol
Hi Just Get It Done Quilts - Your Video Your Sewing Space Part 3 - Organizational Zones, This Idea Is So Amazing For Me And My Family...
Karen, your videos make me so happy. I had to laugh at myself. When you mentioned your thread basket on your sewing table, I had to pause the video and find one RIGHT NOW. Of course, I already had one on my cutting table, but I didn't have one at my machine. I do now, though! Thanks. Now back to the video...
I have absolutely adored this series. We are getting ready to set up our office in our new home, and I’m soaking in all this good organization and tips to keep the good stuff handy in for planning there! Thank you so much Karen, I have really enjoyed your channel over the last few years. You’re awesome ❤️
Hello, Karen. Your zones/levels gave my wanna-be -organized -self very useful direction and inspiration! Thank you for sharing your creativity gift. I have enjoyed your brilliant quilt/sewing insights as well as your concise, friendly manner of presentation. I have shared your RUclips tutorials with my newbie quilt buds. Please continue to share.
Appreciate y’all so much. From a confirmed South Carolina fan.🌴☀️⛱
I use an over the door Shoe Holder...with clear pockets, to store those 'hard to store items' such as lint rollers, ext. cords, spray starch, glues, mini iron/holder, etc...it makes great use out of the back of my door, and I can see at a glance, what is in there...it has about 16 spots!
Great idea, will add that to my reorganising.
Fantastic idea
I've used one of those since I moved into my house 6+ years ago. It holds things I almost never need. They are out of sight, but still accessible.
DH Great idea I can always use the extra storage, thank you
I had to start sharing my sewing room with my husband during the pandemic because he is working from home. That makes things a little interesting and messier. thanks for your video.
I have to be organized and de-cluttered in order to be productive in my sewing. I purposely keep my iron across the room so I am forced to get up and move in order to press (and I press every seam!) I could not sew in an unorganized area. And I sew every day!!
I redid my sewing room with you utube video. Thank you so much..
It looks so great and I enjoy so much working in it!!!
I have finished several projcts too.
My husband came in and finished one wall too!!
Thanks again
TRUTH!! Use your NICE stuff, don't "save" it, open it, take it out of the package, and put it to use...otherwise, it will be used by someone else in the future, when you are either unable or gone... ENJOY the sweet strawberries along the road of life ;)
Thank you Karen you have inspired me, I'm busy for next coulpe of months with fruit harvest and drying but thereafter my time will be spent decluttering ang organising my sewing room, and also getting all my fabric from two additional bedrooms. A lot of fabric will be donated to charities for quilt making as I will never be able to sew it all in 2lifetimes, have left overs from 2 shops that closed and the addicted to collecting samples of fabric, they are great for scrappy quilts and have stopped me buying yardage of collections. Great idea for fabrics you must havw but not the budget to buy larger quantities.
It’s online for whenever you have the time. No rush
I have 3 sewing spaces...2 work and one at home. I always clean up the work stations before I am done...but home is another story. Great tips...realized I am already doing some of these things now to wash, rinse, and repeat all of the video processes for each space.
I can't believe how brave you are to use a coffee cup! I only use cups and bottles that can be sealed between each mouthful. If it's open in my space, it will get spilt!
PS I'm mid mid mid mid reorg/declutter/sort.
Fancy a trip to Australia? Free board... 'sigh'
I just found your videos yesterday, and I love them. I've already watched 7! I have lots of drawer space in my sewing room--that's great, but I can't always remember what drawer contains what. So instead of searching through 4 drawers before I find the right one, I put post it notes on the front of each drawer. Likewise a list on the front of each closet. It makes things easy to find, AND I don't forget about projects just because they're put away.
Thankyou the five minute thing makes sense. We know we never go back after whatever comes next 🌸
I label my containers too, on the sides and on top.
Hello and thank you!
Always nice to hear from you , specially during this pandemic.
I fell like we are old friends as I sew while watching your videos/tutorials.
I love the idea of “ zones areas”; it makes complete sense. Am on the right track but I called mine “convenient areas” LOL
I like “ zones “ better 😀
A MUST for me-I keep thread clippers, seam rippers, and small rulers near my sewing machines and at my other work stations.
You always put and smile on my face.
From Manitoba Canada
I just moved my sewing room upstairs to give me more space and I love it. Watching your video on organizing your space, I was pleased to find I had in fact done exactly what you showed to do. Yes, I love your videos and will continue to watch. Thank you...
Wonderful!
These are great video's. Watching you zone is the key. Ever since I've sewn/crafted I always had zone spaces. I don't Quilt, but extras tools and alike items used right are in the space where their needed. Before I leave my space I do tidy up, because it is gratifying to walk into a fresh room another day. I hope all future crafters see your site. I works very well. Thank you for sharing with us all.
Having a clean workspace is key. I have clutter on the side but my workspace is clear 6 out of 7 days
So many valuable tips.TFS
I use an address book to list where I have put things that I use less frequently and projects. An example would be that if I am looking for zippers, I would look under “Z” and it might say third shelf North wall”.
Thank goodness my professional line of work made me be organized and disciplined. I don’t have an ability to do the zones, as I have to incorporate three spaces. Fabric organization is a work in progress and much harder. But I’m making it work. Organization . . . So satisfying!
👍
Organization also helps me think things through easier. Thank you for all the tips😍
I love your DIY ironing board/rolling storage.
I will watch this every day!!!! Thank YOU!!!!
I will use this direction in my sewing area/room. These same pieces of advice will work in organizing my kitchen’s cooking and baking areas as well. Thank you for breaking these directions down for me,
All your tips are spot on!! It’s been so fun to set up and RESET UP my small sewing room. I have everything organized in just the ways you described and it is so easy to keep clean and stress free. My favorite thing I’ve bought to help is a cordless stick vacuum. Such a game changer. I am able to quickly clean/organize everything as soon as I’m finished for the day. A quick vacuum and it’s ready for the next day!! Totally my happy place!!
Your part 3 is great ... thanks Karen very inspiring... and as you suggested I return and watch your play list about organizing and help me very much with the 21 days of declutter ... I turned my guest room into a multi fonction room and it' great to sew elsewhere than on the dining table 👍🏻😉
Pure Genius! I appreciate your easy to understand method of using zones - I think that's been missing in my reorganization to date. I will say I've used your foam board idea with great success in organizing. As always, I look to you for great ideas to make the joy of quilting even more fun! Thanks Karen :)
Glad to hear
I would like to address some things in this video. It gave some wonderful advice that will pertain to most sewists. But it won't for some.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and can only sit for so long before having to get up and move around to unstiffen. I have purposely moved things out of their logical zone so I will be forced to get up to get them. Examples: All my thread is across the room and all my machine feet are across the room in the opposite direction.
My sewing room is tiny - 9ft x 8 ft. Instead of using see through plastic containers and being able to see their myriad of different fabric colors inside, I sewed up matching fabric bins that was more asthetically pleasing in such a small room, where too many colors would be too much for it.
And I learned to clean up as I go, on those days I can sew, so I won't have such a messy sewing area...there are days when my body won't let me do much at all let alone cleaning up a sewing room. I keep my projects in individual baskets so they're contained. When my sewing time is done the fabric and individual accoutrements gets put into it's basket. A lot less cluttered that way.
This is just the perspective of someone with a disability that possibly has different needs from that of a non-disabled person.
THIS IS BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT! And it came exactly as I was thinking about how I'm going to put this room back together. I have this on a loop, today. THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Zones! Doh!!! So obvious and logical. - Why did this not occur to me before? I won't be completely putting stuff away at the end of a sewing session though. I find I hop around from project to project that way. I tidy up but leave the next step of the one I'm working on ready to go. It's easier to get going again that way. I even sometimes pin up a seam or strip pair ready to sew or set some neatly folded fabric on the ironing board or cutting mat to whisper enticingly "Come back to me!"
Yes! I do that too. " tidy up and leave next step of current project ready to go". Sort of like setting up the coffee other the night before. In the morning, you just push the button! 😊
Desde Chile, muchísimas gracias por este gran aporte, Karen!
Thank you for these videos. ❤
Love love love!
I love you! 😀
This makes so much sense! I will add that there is a certain pleasure that comes from the visual aspect of organized space. My brain is happier and more productive in a pretty space. I liked that you mentioned staying open to changing where things belong when a better plan occurs to you. Thanks for this wonderful video.
That space allows all the great ideas to flow in
Your "zone" area is spot one...just like designing a kitchen. Thank you for your many ideas. I love your channel. I listen to every one. Lynne
I had to find a way to control the scraps. I bought plastic bins with covers for the basic colors, labeled the boxes and when the box is full I either have to purge to put more scraps in or I just toss the scraps. I also bought three bins for projects I am working on, it holds all the fabric, pattern and cut pieces. I cannot start a project until one of the bins is empty. Tossing the scraps is hard but it is more stressful having huge bags of scraps when I also have fabric stored for new projects. Thanks for your videos.
Just decluttered. Thank you
It would be nice if your videos popped up and continued playing in any sequence
Look for the ‘mix’ grouping that RUclips makes or watch a playlist
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts can you do a video on quilting squares and joining them?
this is brilliant and so practical for tiny spaces as well as bigger spaces
Twirls and swirls has been one of the best recommendations I have ever seen!!! Thank you Karen. I hope you have a lot of fun with your new Longarm. They’re fun even when they breakdown and you can figure them out yourself. A bad day in my sewing/quilting space is better than a good day almost any where else. ( except with my grand kids)
Just found this. Great video! Thanks!
