Yeah at least we know why now though, no more guessing
The early 90's cars were so good because the managers actually listened to the engineers and designers instead of the bean counters.
Lmao certainly not in the US.
The Japanese manufacturers had something to prove to the rest of the world back then. Also, this was designed in the middle of the bubble era when everyone (thought) they had all the money in the world.
Now, they don't have to do anything crazy to stay on top and everyone is broke. I don't think we'll ever see another era of car like it again.
90's Volvo magnificent.
Most Japanese vehicles in the 80-90s were you can say over engineered. All the jdm classics and even the motorcycles like the 250 and 400cc 4 cylinder motorcycles. Way ahead of its time.
Also emmisions.
Some dude in Japan has a grin on his face knowing that was Marty's car and he left his old festy coffee cup in it 😂 legend

I’ve actually have a recording of that on my phone!
Also, super stoked to see the Super Turbo back, been wondering what happened to it.
Yesss! I'm 24 and love my 92 Celica (unfortunately not a GT4) ... Nowadays I still get comments from randoms, young and old, about the car! Would definitely say there's some special about the 80s, 90s stuff!
Ok, the part for the air filter being made on the 3D printer really impressed me, now I know I'm getting old.
Son of the Southern Cross my 60 year old dad just got into 3D printing recently. It’s more accessible than ever before.
I couldn’t agree more when they spoke about the 90’s JDM market. I’m almost 24 but I love the cars that Japanese manufactures were pumping out at the time. Late 80’s to mid 00’s just feels like the golden era for so many cars from Japan
Aristo twin turbo still half the price of supra ATM. If u got cash get one.
Love it! I had a Nissan Micra (march) as my first car here in the UK, and I still have a soft spot for them now 20yrs later. Have often dreamed of building one, especially after seeing a Nissan works ice racing build that had a mid engined V6! But yours is a little special, and my 17yr old self would have killed for one of these, and I would happily drive one now. Like the level of mods you're planning, a modern ball bearing turbo, sorted vacuum system, shocks, brakes, tyres, and exhaust would suit it fine.
Those Advan Rally wheels are incredible looking.
I recommend you coat that intake adapter in epoxy resin. I'm guessing that 3d printing media has some porosity. It'll make it much stronger too 👍
As someone who repairs 3d printers as part of my job from time to time - PLA and ABS are absolutely porous. PLA wouldn't be strong enough for the temps in the engine bay, so I'm guessing they used ABS for it (which lines up with the enclosed printers), so it's less of a problem, but I would absolutely get either epoxy resin or an enamel paint on there as a sealant.
You'd want to print it in polycarbonate. Very strong and 50% higher glass transition temp compared to ABS.
I was going to chime in on this as well. It appears their buddy who also did the datsun radio plate has a legit setup and would know but in general that thing especially in that build orientation would be lucky to survive. Might consider a longer terms solution either in another material, cast yourself with a silicone mold or bust out that tig
The porosity isn't even the issue. If it's porous enough that air leaks are a concern, his printer isn't set up right.
Even ABS can distort especially when under the clamping load of the fasteners and exposed to engine bay heat. Glass fiber reinforced Nylon would be a better material along with some compression limiting bushings... which is what most OEM do for plastic engine bay parts.
I print intake adapters all the time (even have a video on my channel.) Never had a leak. I use PETG and it's wonderful for the application.
bloody hell thats amazing for 25 years old. Plus it’s supercharged and turbo. Blimey. I think I’ve been living under a rock. Wow.
Also, Re: Seats: With my project mazda, i just took the coverings off the seats entirely, and threw them in the wash. Resecured the covers with zip ties. You'll never know it was apart, apart from the lack of nearly 200,000km of somebody's bottom on it. :)
This is what I also did with all my 80s/90s cars. Just use a sensitive washing program or wash them by hand in the bathtub. They come out almost as new. Then ditch those nasty metal clamps that hold the covers in place, zip ties work perfectly. And you end up with almost as good as new seat
Done that to the back seat of my Commodore when the cat pissed on it
Ah the beauty of leather seats :)

i've messed around with some 3d programs but never found decent software to bring a 2d scanned image into a 3d software program. You know what software they're using to do that?
@@gregh7457 Pretty sure you can do it in any cad software. You just need to make a 2d sketch, import an image and set transparency then trace over it and scale to proper size. Solidworks has the feature, i believe fusion 360 does as well, auto cad, Creo all the ones ive used so far that had it if im not mistaken.

Early 90’s Japanese cars in fact represent the best of times. I now own a 2017 K13 now, but other than the racing version there aren't many mods for it. This made me tingle when I first saw it roll into your shed, thank you.
They only "dissolve" if you don't protect them properly.
Use an epoxy primer to seal the bare metal (two coats better than one), and a good rubber bedliner over it to prevent cracks on the underside of the car, and you will enjoy the car for many years.
