The race has certainly changed since the 1980's when I started watching it as a kid - the first race I clearly remember is Ben Nevis in 80 - that was a testing race - nowadays its just a gentle run of the mill race - there is just no comparison from the 80's and 90's to nowadays
The safety of horse should be paramount. It's still over 4 miles and 30 fences. So, it's not just a breeze, poor horses that have died over the years for entertainment shouldn't be seen as more entertaining.
Jumps made of candy floss, horses running through the fences this isn't the grand national I was brought up with, no excitement at all. Red rum must be turning in his Aintree grave
You were also probably brought up being smacked by your parents and given the cane at school, but hey ho, times change don't they. If the excitement you crave is horses falling and breaking their necks, you want to give your head a wobble. This is the Grand National now, how about enjoying it instead of whining, you old grump 🦄
You get out what you put in.poor prize money all year apart from the aintree an Cheltenham festivals.use need to make it appealing for owners to keep there horses in England an with such poor prize money on offer for the majority of the season is it any wonder owners are prepared to send them to Mullins Elliot an de bromhead
There will be protesters every year, you will never appease these woke lunatics. In 10 years time, the race will have a maximum of 20 runners, it will be run over 3 miles, with only 12 fences, which will have been lowered further still, and the woke brigade will still be protesting. The Grand National is like teletext, and cassette tapes, it's a thing of the past.
I was following that white helmet with green jersey the whole second lap around he was just hanging back making sure he was on the inside and a relaxed horse just staying within 4 to 5 horses. And then he just said eat my dust. He was really holding that horse back for sure. That horse could have won another lap with ease💪💪💵💵🏆

Not sure how these can be called 'jumps' if a horse can charge through them and keep going. There's more equestrian skill on display at a local agricultural show.
The lack of loose horses contributed greatly to the lack of chaos in the race, which isnt a bad thing. The sight of 20 odd horses packed together towards the end was weird but then isn't that the point of a handicap race? Lastly having the fences made of that spruce is now pointless if they disintegrate on contact. Its not the event of old but then boxing and f1 went through the same thing.
I remember the fear in jockeys faces and the daunting fences including the neck breaking drop on the landing side of bechers. Now an old carthorse cud jump it. Embarrassment to call this THE GREATEST STEEPLECHASE IN HISTORY.... sadly it WAS
@@trilliarobinson7862jockeys choose to ride, horses are bred, trained to be ridden, jockeys endanger themselves!! Owners/trainers endanger the horses...!!!!Morally it is not the fences fault, .....!
Everything about the race has changed except the name, so let's change that too. From now on it should be called The 4.00 at Aintree, because there's nothing Grand about it any more, and there's certainly nothing National about it either. The Grand National was a thing of the past, because it's gone now.
Rip the grand national its just an ordinary race now that any horse can win where as before you had to be a special talented horse. The do gooders killed the national.Horse's break legs everyday on the flat and in fields it never was anything to do with the height of the fences the smaller the fence the faster they go speed kills not the height.
I'm all for the safety of horses I own one myself but honestly was like a hurdle race. The Grand National as we knew it ie dead the most boring national I think I've ever watched
Just seems to have lost its magic they have altered too many things and messed about too much it's just like any other race now tbh. It will be last one I watch tbh
British horse racing is a joke and going down the pan. The Irish have all the best owners, horses and trainers and win all the races. The British prefer quantity over quality to keep the bookmakers happy.
Without doubt that was the worst Grand National I have ever seen . I have always loved the race and have watched plenty over and over again . I have not and will not watch 2024 again !! Why ?? Because it was the Grand National only in name ❤
Worst grand national in history, they might as well make it a flat race. rubbish, theyll be 5 runners in next years race & the fences will be 1 foot, massive let down
Might as well take the race to Sedgefield

Are the horses trained better?
Why put the winner in the Title??? Why??

Why would you want horses to fall at the fences? It’s a testament to them and the jockeys for how many finished this year. Brilliant race.
Race has gone RIP the Grand National.
On the other hand a new 4 mile 2 hurdle race has been formed.
they are stuffed hurdles now, with no fallers but so what
I don't want horses to fall and die. You should be ashamed. Make the jumps as safe as possible

Congratulations to John P McManus, a very dedicated NH owner!
The german bred Horse Delta Work becomes second.
Why put result in description….
4 runners from England heart breaking end to NH racing in England
Grate trainer Willie Mullins.

Only 4 horses fell or unseated that must be a record low! there where 15 last year. Health and safety has gone in overdrive nowandays
i think they all unseated no fallers
@@ascott6328there was a fall at 4.01.22
Sorry no fatalities, your enjoyment spoiled?
There were no fallers all the jockeys were unseated they need better superglue

In 2002 TEN horsed unseated or fell at the 1st fence!

easiest £70 of my life! well done Paul 👏
Boring race. Not what it used to be

🙌🙌
Might not be as testing as it was but in a way makes it more competitive

Like a hurdle race now. Pathetic.

So you would rather endanger horse and rider for your own "pleasure" ?

It was when Red Rum achieved 3 wins and 2 second places

If you look carefully the Winner made a bad mistake at the Chair
Race is not a patch on what it used to be the excitement has gone.

Ok its safer now...but its taken the excitement out of the race
Most boring grand national ever
I'm all for the safety of horses I own one myself but honestly was like a hurdle race. The Grand National as we knew it ie dead the most boring national I think I've ever watched
You think that was a boring finish ? And no deaths ?
In what ways was it more boring with the amount of horses still with a chance at the end?
Just seems to have lost its magic they have altered too many things and messed about too much it's just like any other race now tbh. It will be last one I watch tbh
Your reply count should show 4, not 3- hope that you see my reply since I’m quite puzzled, wanted feedback.. thanks SH!

Glad to see it wasnt the uaual bloodbath and green screens. How anyone can find this enjoyable regardless is beyond me
And that has to be an improvement, no one wants to see carnage anymore. Well done Aintree
I won 28 pound and got 2nd and won😅 my bro got 1st and 3rd😊😂❤
