Ruby Walsh what a hero! You could see everything he did to go help Balthazar King and Dickie Johnson much better here than on the Channel 4 coverage and then holding the flag on the second circuit. Good to see!

***** Nowadays they don't even feel when they're being whipped. The whip is ultra-light and cushioned and is used to create a sound that the horse reacts to. And if a horse cant go any further it will either be pulled up or refuse to jump - in no way is there animal abuse in the Grand National.
***** Accidents happen in all sports, not just horseracing. I know sports involving animals are more controversial because the animal doesn't get to consent to take part, but most of the time things go smoothly. Accidents are a minority of cases. In any case, what would you rather see happen? The horse industry shut down? What would happen then to all those horses involved? No one would be able to provide for them anymore, because they'd be out of jobs and money. So then the horses would probably end up in slaughterhouses. That would be even worse than the racing business.
Thanks for the attack Boolaga Bay. I am well aware of how the animals are treated and in the ball park of animal abuse it is right at the bottom. There are donkeys in Africa who carry heavy loads in the blistering sun for hours with hardly any water or food. These horses have wonderful lives outside racing and the risk they experience lasts 10 minutes, tops. Horses falling is rare and is getting safer all the time. I feel comfortable taking part in this tradition.

Yeah, he was fine after the fall but when BallyCasey rammed into him he tried to get up, which I fear made his injuries worse. Imagine if they had taken that second canal turn and Many Clouds fell!
2015 was fatality free and thats something to rejoice just as in 1961, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 68, 69, 71, 72, 74, 76, 80, 81, 82, 85, 86, 88 - all fatality free. Horse deaths are very sad but disproportionately and emotively hyped up by those often foaming at the mouth. I believe the National should be a unique once a year race with stiff fences and connections enter on that basis. However, let's not get carried away that the fences in the 70s and 80s were impossible. 23 horses (the record) finished in 1984 and 22 finished in 1987. Old timers back then said the fences were too soft and not like in the 1930s, 1940s or 1950s - they were right just as we are right now. I dont want to go back to the 1950s, although restoring the ditch at the Canal Turn would slow them right up. I dont believe we should substitute stiff fences for ever quicker pace as I believe speed kills as horses breast through the fences like Balthazar King. The old fences would have kept him on the take off side and prevented more injury to him and others. I believe too many horses are left in by Foinavon and the Canal Turn - a problem that is getting worse, but not unique (1974). I recall in 1983 it was even money that half the field will be out by 1st Bechers and as the National was designed for elimination by a very clever course builder I have no problem with it. Racing is a tough sport and there will always be injuries. Get over it. While I accept we wont be going back to the old fences any time soon, here is a fatality free Foxhunters over the old fences. Just remember that earlier that day most of the runners in the Topham completed. ruclips.net/video/dY2nzxs1-ro/видео.html
grincher2006 You're talking crap. Sounds like some sort of death race 2000 when u talk about too many horses being left by such a such fence. I was there when brown trix was winched out of Bechers brook breaking his shoulder in the process and leading to him dying too. It's not on that a cretin like you thinks another life lost is a price worth paying for your entertainment. I love horse racing but I also love the horses that make the racing possible and they deserve much better treatment. Fences should be made safer, it's no less of a spectacle and whips should be banned and don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about as I know more than armchair punters like you. Better Horse veterinary provision and some assessment of the horses wellbeing and eligibility to jump this course should be made beyond allowing some selfish careless owner to decide that he fancies his horse having a run around to impress his mates along with a few beers before watching his horse being towed off to the knackers yard.
Fantastic weight carrying performance from Many Clouds. Cool as a cucumber ride from Leighton Aspell. But the best result was the fact the battered and bruised warrior Balthazar King got to his feet.
Only see this comment today and I’ve watched this race loads of times, Balthazar king indeed how he got up I do not know what a mighty specimen he was ❤
I really hope these horses ain't hurt when they get whipped And Rest in Peace to Many Clouds, I really hope his condition wasn't brought on by racing :(
@Michael Demiurgos actually yes they can feel the crop. A horse can feel when a fly lands on them, and they use their tails to flick them away because they get irritated with the flies. A horse can feel being shocked, they feel when a horse fly bites them, and they feel a whip. Do ur research and watch all the videos u can on horses racing and other horse sports. If u watch when a horse is running being repeatedly whipped or whipped hard u can tell by their body language when they're upset. Some might shy from the whip, where they change lead real quick as soon as they see the whip, and that's fear from being whipped. Some might spook, some might put their ears back, some might start to slow down, etc when they're being whipped. There has been horses that have the lead, and others can't catch them, but the horse is still being whipped to go faster. People drug their horses, whip their horses, shock their horses, and find many other inhumane ways of making them win. For instance, Bob Baffert and Amber Cobb r good examples of shitty owners and trainers, who shouldn't be aloud around any animals, especially horses. Many send the horses to slaughter when they can't do the sport they once did. People discard them and act like it's okay to do it. Animals have emotions just like people do. Let me ask u something how would u like it if someone was put on ur back, and raced u against others, while ur being whipped to have the lead and win? Horses don't need to be whipped to win or to control them, anyone who knows horses should know this. I believe horses do like a challenge, and they like to run, jump, and play, but when people do all this extra shit to them, they don't enjoy what they do or r doing.
@Michael Demiurgos there were many researchers about the crop use in race horses and the damage they do to them. The many autopsies performed on race horses showed MASIVE bleedings in the rib and hindquarter areas of the horses that went several muscle layers deep! Do your research and don’t sure that just because crops make noise they don’t do damage to the horse!
@@sacriface777 well, the current whip was developed by the British Horseracing Authority in cooperation with the RSPCA and veterinary institutions and is made of compressed foam. The whip is therefore made to make a noise but hurt. That includes internal injuries. Some horses are marked with the whip but on average only 1 horse per year. That 1 mark per 92000 runners.

I live over 100 miles from the nearest Bookmakers but this weekend I was in Inverness visiting relatives - I walked into Ladbrokes with about 5 horses vying for my money , I had thought of Cause Of Causes but went with the Gold Cup runner , Many Clouds , picked up £290 this afternoon . The usual feelings of ' I wish I'd put more on ' went through my mind but hey , I won !
You could see he was a the winner with a circuit to go.. Just moments before the race, I remembered the trainer saying before the gold cup "He knows he's King Kong".. So I knew he was the class-act of the race and stuck £12 on at 25's.. and just remember cheering him on like crazy calling him King Kong hahaa :D .. But the biggest relief was Balthazar, he's such a special horse and I'd rather him get up than win a couple tonne on the winner.. for real.. :)
I fancied it strongly and knew it was well overdue for an 8 year old to win the GN but with Aspell on his back, I thought it so unlikely as back to back on different horses was virtually unheard of. Same this year with a 7 year old. Wish I did not look at the stats so much
while i agree that the race isn't as much of a test as it used to be I still think it is one of the toughest races around hence why only half the field completed, yes the have made some fences easier but if we have less equine fatalities it can only be a good thing, and I am a true horse racing fan.
Sneaky how the tv coverage was avoiding Many Clouds at the finish. Horse was looking unwell and was overheating...imagine if the horse had died...the outrage would have spelled the end for the national.
IMHO, i feel they have too many horses on the field. They collide at the take off, mid air, and landing. The clip the heels of the horse landing in front of them, and when they do fall and happen to pop up okay, they get slammed and hurt even worse by the fallowing pack. I understand that it is one of the largest races in Europe, but they need to drop the number of horses allowed on the track in a single race... Horse racing can be an exciting time if done right, and heart breaking when catastrophe strikes...
second time i have won the grand national the first time was in 2010 with tony mcCoy riding dont push it and this years national with many clouds with a £45 pound win
these recent nationals are taking a familiar shape, a handful of fallers at the first 3 fences, then a relatively incident free race to bechers 2nd time, then between fence 22 and 28 around 10 pulling up and a couple of fallers because of the excessive gallop , then at fence 29 its more like a flat race finish with about 10 jockeys riding hard, the horse that outstays the others wins, another thing is because of all the changes u don't get great national horses like west tip and corbierre anymore
At one time A.P was so severe with the whip he was sent back to racing school to learn how to use it correctly. He never should have been knighted! The reaction of the death of Gloria Victus was appalling.
What do you mean by RIP? Balthazar King survived the fall and recovered from his injuries at the hospital. ruclips.net/video/QZv6IqDT8wM/видео.html www.bbc.com/sport/horse-racing/32274221
@@danielledewitt1 alot of the time they use it and the horses get up actually want another 2 examples. They use it to keep the horses or jockeys relaxed
(Quick note: I don't want anyone to reply if it's complaining) If there is anything I hate about horse racing it's the grand national it's basically torture for some of the horses.. Like some get severe injuries same with the riders... I know its traditional but still.. looks at how some of those horses fell.. Did u see the one that couldn't get up? No? Well then watch it again!!
They are bred for it, this isn't your average horse you see in a field , Usain bolt is t your average human as the fastest sprinter I'm the world but he would put his body through hell to achieve it as does every elite athlete. Get a grip and leave your woke mentality at the door. If a horse doesn't want to run it won't .
@@wayevs I am well aware of their breed. I am familiar with thoroughbreds as race horses and the training required etc. I just dont agree with the racing industry. Did you see how many fallen horses there were just in this one race?! I disagree with your statement "if a horse doesnt want to run it wont" it's all they know how to do. It is the life the trainers and owners put on them. They dont get taught anything else. I do believe the horses enjoy running to some degree, as they are literally bred for it, and it's in their genetic make up etc. however that doesnt mean the industry is FOR THEM! It is for the owners, the trainers, the gambling addicts and the governments to make money from. It is not for the horse and the horse is the one left with nothing, the one that often gets injured, the one that has so much stress and strain on the body that they retire early and then get sent to slaughter if they cannot be rehomed.
1. The horse does have a choice. The horse will not run if he/she doesnt want to. Racing is what they are bred for. 2. If these horses don't race, where do they go? I'll tell you now, 90% of them would end up in your tesco beef burgers. 3. The majority of them are treated wonderfully. Much better than humans.
Lionel Messi Your Words Lionel Messi "Racing is what they are bred for"THINK ABOUT THAT!as for being in our beef burgers thats the treatment & my whole point in question!
+Terry Barthram You have found a way to actually make horses do things that they do not want to do, Mr Barthram? Great. How much do you charge for riding lessons?
Y’all are crazy if you support this horse abuse I have watched so many races and I’ve seen multiple horses get injured or even killed this is just straight up horse abuse
Imagine that all Horsesports have injured Horses etc. Would be a shame, to 100% im sure, in Highclass Reining or Jumping they Bones dont get any Problems! *sarcasm off*
You have a strange understanding of the word abuse. If you knew anything about horses you'd know that these horses are bred purely for racing. First of all, they would not exist were it not for the sport. They live a life of pure luxury. They are groomed daily, fed the best feed, sleep in warm stables and receive the best veterinary care that can be provided, usually costing their owners hundreds and hundreds of thousands over their lifetime. Do you think "wild" horses die peacefully in their sleep of old age surrounded by loved ones or something?. They die painful deaths usually from disease or injury . Nobody likes to see an animal in pain, injured or worse . Especially not a horse trainer, jockey or owner who spends 16+ hours a day caring for the animal.
Eanna Carroll first of all I have been around horses my whole life so I do know about horses and I know they are bread for racing but that still doesn’t make this right and do u have physical prof these horses live in luxury not saying they don’t but not all of them get treated like royalty and I know that horses care is expensive and we are not even talking about wild horses they are many things to die from in the wild but having horses gallop towards a jump and jump it at that speed and land successfully is hard that’s why a lot of them get injured or break there legs and have to be put down so that is why I consider this abusive/painful to watch
I had rebel rebellion, saint are and soll, at the half way point i was looking at a grand, now I only got my stake money back, o well thats the grand national for you :)

while i agree that the race isn't as much of a test as it used to be I still think it is one of the toughest races around hence why only half the field completed, yes the have made some fences easier but if we have less equine fatalities it can only be a good thing,
and I am a true horse racing fan.
Sneaky how the tv coverage was avoiding Many Clouds at the finish. Horse was looking unwell and was overheating...imagine if the horse had died...the outrage would have spelled the end for the national.
you are a year too late with that comment mate
IMHO, i feel they have too many horses on the field. They collide at the take off, mid air, and landing. The clip the heels of the horse landing in front of them, and when they do fall and happen to pop up okay, they get slammed and hurt even worse by the fallowing pack. I understand that it is one of the largest races in Europe, but they need to drop the number of horses allowed on the track in a single race... Horse racing can be an exciting time if done right, and heart breaking when catastrophe strikes...
RIP many clouds another horse pushed and pushed to make the greed of the human greater,
4:26 lol horse didn't know which way to go jumps over a random fence 🤣🤣🤣
Many clouds literally ran his heart out to beat thistlecrack just before tragedy stuck. What a horse.
The Druid's Nephew and The Rainbow Hunter fell at that fence. I hope they're not injured.
I am crying because many clouds has died :( I am crying omg
Many clouds won me this race and many more. Such a sad moment. Always gave its best effort ALWAYS!!
@@iloveblackjack8753 It‘s so sad because in almost every race like that horses are dying because of this jumps. Why not normal races?.?
Most people don’t realize just how BIG the jumps are. 5’ high 12’ wide.
Brilliant display, horses are bred for the job.
Loved this horse a proper old fashioned chaser rip many clouds
WHAT A HORSE SUPER STAR
This race will forever be remembered for balthazar kings horrific fall
I am always like to watch Horse race
Who can't wait for the 2018 one
It's about time the Grand national was banned.
Along with all horse racing.
Its a big shame many clouds had died few years after i was gutted about it xx 😢
I cried when they bought out the green screens...
@Seamus Fitzpatricknkhz
@Seamus Fitzpatrick The green screen means they are murdering a horse.
@@danielledewitt1 That horse recovered
@@tomcurran860 Yeah but he was lucky, usually they murder the horse behind that screen, like they did with the long mile.
@Michael Demiurgos No I didn’t.
Rip many clouds one of a kind beautiful horse 🐴
I watched this race with the lord of the rings Riders of Rohan soundtrack playing simultaneously, made it so intense!
people forget how good he was also dear saint are another legend
saint are died a few weeks ago, age 15. he had a second career as a show horse.
poor balthazar thrown around like a rag doll at the canal turn.luckily he survived
He was retired from racing yesterday. We wish him a very happy & long retirement
+Lionel Messi totally agree love baltazar
Fantastic news. I was sure he had broken his leg.
RIP Saint Are ❤️
Did we asked the horses they want to compete in that?
second time i have won the grand national the first time was in 2010 with tony mcCoy riding dont push it and this years national with many clouds with a £45 pound win
best weight carrying performance since red rum
these recent nationals are taking a familiar shape, a handful of fallers at the first 3 fences, then a relatively incident free race to bechers 2nd time, then between fence 22 and 28 around 10 pulling up and a couple of fallers because of the excessive gallop
, then at fence 29 its more like a flat race finish with about 10 jockeys riding hard, the horse that outstays the others wins, another thing is because of all the changes u don't get great national horses like west tip and corbierre anymore
AP Mcoy won the horse whipping contest...wow at the finish he beat STFD like a wayward stepchild...
At one time A.P was so severe with the whip he was sent back to racing school to learn how to use it correctly. He never should have been knighted! The reaction of the death of Gloria Victus was appalling.
Y hay gente que practica esto!! No se puede creer
Got it at 40/1 ,,,,, loved that horse
0:28 look at Bob Ford’s mistake
Many clouds wonderful horse hope you are up there still doing your best know you will love you xx
True champion winning the national off a high mark....
Proper dude that horse, RIP many clouds, tough bugger.
Saint are better at weights this year
Piece a' cake now!!!
When I seen the green tarp I knew what happened R.I.P
What do you mean by RIP? Balthazar King survived the fall and recovered from his injuries at the hospital.

A truly brilliant winner. R.I.P. MANY CLOUDS.

SAD NEWS MANY CLOUDS SAD LOSS RIP
I like that horse which is racing without jockey!
Anyone who truly loves horses washouts hate these sports where animals are put down all the time and those who don’t win end up in a slaughter plant.
Não moça não e assim não
Not true, but if that how deluded you are: fine
well done Many Clouds! who says we can't have another horse like Red Rum? :)
Thistlecrack was never the same horse after many clouds beat him what a horse many clouds was
R,I,P,
Many Clouds
2017
El objetivo de estas carreras es hacer muchas cesinas de caballo.
Rest In Peace Many Clouds.
Goddamn!!!!
What's the attendance for this race? I'm gonna guess 50,000 to around 75,000. 🏇
Какой жестокий спорт. Сколько людей и лошадей покалечилось просто так. ? Зачем?
My only ever winner of the national
I bet on many clouds big price he was too xxx 😊
Por qué no muestran la cantidad de caballos lesionados !?
Because it was 0. No horses were fatally injured. One horse was injured but survived and raced again.
Watch Alvarado on the last strait
Why the hell is this type of racing still legal?!
Steeple chasing seriously needs to banned. I already don't like flat racing, but this is the worst.
The Horse doesn't have a choice but humans do!
If the horses don't want to run they will refuse to start so they have a perfectly good choice
+Terry Barthram You have found a way to actually make horses do things that they do not want to do, Mr Barthram? Great. How much do you charge for riding lessons?
Brilliant horse
What's the best horse to bet for?
ya me están empezando a gustar las carreras de caballos c:)
XD
2:02 Ooohhuch!! ¡Auch! :0
This type of horse racing is sad I never in my life would support this type of horse racing 😔
@@makaylabevins1951 Do you eat meat?
RIP Trevor Hemmings
More horses were put to death in this track than we know.
Many clouds he is incredible race so sad news pass away
I had rebel rebellion, saint are and soll, at the half way point i was looking at a grand, now I only got my stake money back, o well thats the grand national for you :)
MrNoodle1664 Heh, my mother had The Druid's Nephew. Was starting to get her hopes up after he held the lead for a while, only to be left cursing after he went down. Lucky for her I was backing Many Clouds, so I'll share the nice £130 I got with her.
***** if The Druids Nephew had stayed up he would have won . i backed that horse at cheltenham. they bring him back he possibly will be the winner , that happened to hedge hunter fell , following year 2005 won the race
***** I backed Many Clouds (among others) at Cheltenham, but he bungled it. Decided to give him another chance at the National. He is now redeemed in my eyes.
