Hi, I had almost all of these symptoms... lights going off or on on the dashboard, trouble turning the key, taking the key out and the engine keeps running, the radio sometimes turns off by itself... and finally one day the engine stops... me in the car in the middle of the road! I put the scan tool on and it doesn't show any fault code related to the ignition switch, sadly, since that day my car is parked in the garage... and just yesterday I took apart the whole instrument panel, released the connector, changed the crankshaft cam sensor, I did everything to find the fault... Today I watched your video and I saw where the possible fault is... Thanx a lot!!
All lights ect ,no crank, couldn't jump start, battery tested fine. Replaced ground, not it. I did continuity testing, solenoid, starter; starter relay clicks. Starts 9/10 times now . Down to ignition switch???
I'm at this point now, too. I confirmed the starter and its relay is good bu being able to jump the relay. I just cleaned out the NSS... it indicates better than ever, now I'm here at the ignition switch.
So I'm experiencing this with my 2007 mercury,. All the gauges drop to zero and the headlights and tail lights and power windows quit working after the car starts. I disconnect the negative cable from the battery to reset the computer and reconnect it and normally that gets it to turn turn on as it should, but there is times when this doesn't work and I had to disconnect the entire battery and reconnect it because it will just give me one click and do absolutely nothing when the key is turning. I replaced the terminals and got the battery checked and it still didnt resolve the problem. A while back I was experiencing that when I would touch or jiggle the key a little bit my dome lights would turn on so this has me thinking it could be linked with the ignition switch. I only had a few times however where the car will randomly stall out at no particular time. If the gauges have dropped and the lights have turned off and I don't shut off the car right away a light for the check charging system comes on also
It sounds like you might be dealing with an issue related to the ignition switch or wiring connections. The fact that jiggling the key affects the dome lights suggests a possible loose or worn ignition switch. Additionally, it might be worth checking the grounding points and connections to ensure they are clean and secure, as poor grounding can cause intermittent electrical problems. If the issue persists, a professional diagnostic could pinpoint the exact cause. Good luck!
@MechanicalGuy68 thank you man! I replace the ignition switch and it took care of most of the problems but I found out that my alternator is overcharging my battery as well my guess is the voltage regulator went out in it or is going out or maybe a wiring issue.
My cars lights work volts are good radio works but when I turn the key noting just one click from the starter relay and noting more, new starter new battery new fuses it’ll start sometimes it’s hit or miss some been telling me ignition switch I need help will that be it ?
Hey you, It could very well be the ignition switch, especially since everything else seems to be in good condition, and the issue is intermittent. A faulty ignition switch can prevent the proper signal from reaching the starter. However, also check the wiring to the starter and ensure all connections are tight and free of corrosion. If the problem persists, testing the ignition switch or having it inspected might be the next best step. Good luck!!!
It’s possible the ignition switch could be causing issues, but if the code specifically points to the ignition coils, it might be worth double-checking the coils, wiring, and connections first. A faulty ignition switch can sometimes lead to related problems, so getting it inspected might help narrow down the issue. Good luck!
Hi there, A loud ticking sound, a flickering dashboard, and a no-start condition could indeed be symptoms of an ignition switch problem. The ignition switch is responsible for sending power to the car's electrical systems, including the dashboard and starter. When it fails, it can cause erratic electrical behavior and prevent the car from starting. However, these symptoms could also point to other issues such as a dead battery, faulty alternator, or poor electrical connections. It's best to test the ignition switch along with these other components to pinpoint the exact cause.
@@HonestMechanicChannel I am having the same exact problem and symptoms. I thought it was the alternator, being it is original and dates to 2000, but the battery has good voltage and two mechanics I talked to feel it has to do with the starter or related system. If it is the starter that is pretty annoying in the sense I just had it replaced last year. I checked out the fuse relays that deal with ignition and starting and there was no change there when I put in a matching one for one of the cooling fans. I am going to look more into the ignition switch as a possibility. Also, two weeks ago the engine stopped as it was being driven into a parking space. A P0122 code came on indicating the throttle position sensor had low voltage. I replaced it, the check engine light went off, and all seemed well. I just kind of wonder a little bit if this is somehow related or is indicative of a broader electrical problem. What are your thoughts?

Have u fixed it?
@@96NBB Yeah, I change the ignition switch. all now it's rigth.
Regards
Thank you helped me out a lot exactly what my truck is doing going to replace the ignition switch today thanks again
Good video. Like the humor.

Have you all tried the cam sensors
Or the ignition coils
/ tune up
The solenoids
Same issue here what was the problem

Got two tune ups and the code keeps saying ignition coils, has to be ignition switch

Can a bad ignition switch also cause yr key to get stuck ..no start
Hi Jackie, Yes, a bad ignition switch can cause the key to get stuck and prevent the car from starting.
i have a loud ticking and cluster ( dashdoard) starts flickering and no start not even crank could it be a ignition switch

What did the cause turn out to be for you?
