Excellent video (as usual). My daughter has the habit of over rotating on her ippon seoi nage. I will show her this combination as it is clearly a lot more effective than just trying to drag uke over her shoulder with brute strength. Will also give it a go myself :-) Thanks for this and all your videos!
I have been in the situation of over rotating opponents just recently and hope to put this technique into action soon! I really enjoy your videos and am excited to see more combinations in the future
Only the “grabbing the leg” part of the video is not allowed anymore in Judo competitions, but you can do that if you’re in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BJJ competition.
Great video and technique! thank you so much for sharing and please keep em coming! My question how ever would be in what scenerios would this technique be most effective? A seoi nagi is usually set up with other attacks or movement, but when is it better to use this technique over the straight seoi nagi?
The Seoi-Nage into Kata Guruma is best used either as a technique on its own (so step in and over extend your hips to put yourself in the position to kata guruma) or it works well if you try for an Ippon Seoi Nage and uke avoids, so your hips miss, and from there you can utilise a Kata Guruma to still obtain a score. The drop is used in this instance to help generate power for the Kata Guruma as a secondary technique. In terms of drop Seoi Nage vs a standing Seoi Nage, it is up to preference. I find a lower Seoi Nage is best used against very strong or tall opponents.
Hello Mr. Sampson. i was wondering if i can use traditional upward pulling tsurite action on harai goshi/uchi mata during randori/match. i see alot of elbow up variations and just wondered if the traditional way works😃
Of course you can! The traditional way is the foundation to these new variations that you see today. The traditional way made it possible to create variations. It is the father of the techniques you are seeing. In my opinion, it is even more effective!
How does the dropped knee placement work with taller people? I have problems when I drop that knee close to the other ankle when taller people can basically bend over me without losing balance. I try to pull their shoulder forward, but sometimes that doesn't seem enough and I feel like I just used a lot of effort to sit down in front of them. Any advice?
LeAnn Purdy sounds like you aren’t breaking their balance enough before you turn in. Try and create movement before you throw and turn in to break their balance
Sampson Judo thanks for the quick reply Sampson. That's quite good quality for the in built mic. I'm a photographer mainly but have been asked by our judo club to record some footage. Love the page by the way. Very good instruction
No problem John. Yes, the mic certainly gets the job done! Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you are enjoying our content. Please do share the video you end up creating too, it would be great to see the final product.
Hi Miki, I am extremely glad you are keen to see new videos! Unfortunately, as I am not a full-time RUclipsr it is difficult to release a new video every week due to juggling running my own business, my own judo school and my own organisation at the same time. Similarly, my media team also have full time jobs themselves. I hope you can understand and be patient with me whilst I find time to make some new videos.

I had just woke up and this came to my mind to switch from a failed seoi nage to a kata guruma lol thanks for the video
Nice video! Brazilians hugs for you Sensei! I am Jiu jitsu practitioner and I think Judo is very important for us. thanks!
Raphael Ribeiro Vidal Brazilian hugs? That's a lot of hugs
Agree. I am a Jiu-jitsu practitioner too and that is the reason why I am here watching and subscribed.
Very good judo techniques that are VERY WELL explained and demonstrated . A lot of people "sleep" on judo DON'T!
I liked this technique, beautiful!!!
Thank you very much!!!
Sampson Judo is my go to channel for Judo. Thank you so much for making these videos.

Thank you a lot. Great variations of the beautifull seoi nage. Glad i found this channel.

great videos. I was a judoka for 10 or 12 years here in Las Vegas, Nv. I'm hoping your videos will inspire me to start training again.

I really enjoy your videos and am excited to see more combinations in the future
wow - the details here are stunning!
Brilliant! 👍🏻
I really wish I could train with you . This is Mifune's judo. Thx.
Thanks a lot Sensei Sampson! It's a nice technique!
As a variation for those who don't want to use the hand maybe the uke's leg can be trapped with the left leg or rollover after pulling down
Great!
Amazing throws.
Another amazing technique. I am beyond impressed!
Awesome technique!
Love this one - they're my 2 favourite throws, and I was just wondering how I could link/combine them.

You can in the WJF! Just not the IJF.
@@SampsonJudo wow, I didn’t know that, thanks Sensei, OSS🥋

This is quite similar to Ippon Seoi Otoshi in my opinion, how would you distinguish when to use this as compared to Ippon Seoi Otoshi?
Cute !
Niice, thank you so much!

Muito bom! TKS Master!
Parece uchi Makikomi... e pegar na perna ou conduzir com a perna é permitido?
Really great technique. I always get into that position. But can you use that in the current rule sets?
Chris Thant not under IJF rules. However it is perfectly acceptable under WJF rules.
Great video - thanks. Would you recommend this for where uke is quite a bit shorter?
Nice
cómo se llama la técnica?
Plz how can I get into opponent easily and put the skill

🥰🥰🥰✅
Sounds like uchi makikomi.
Very similar!
Would you not get a shido for touching the leg??
You would in IJF. I follow WJF rules which allow leg grabs
Thank you, I'll work on this with my students 🙂

May I ask what are you using to record sound I'm on this Video?
Hi John, we are using the mic built in on the camera - there is no additional equipment, only a Canon DSLR.

is this IJF legal since you don't grab the leg?
I belive it is, a lot of top judokas do variations of kata guruma in big IJF events, such as grand slam and world championships.

Doesn't look legal though.
Legal in WJF, not IJF
